lol indeed, that would be my salsa friend (who also competed in the On1 division) sitting next to me that was clearly shocked/impressed by Nilson and Deisy's acrobatics, deservedly so!
I have to say that I come back all the time to see this version of this performance for just that reason. The reactions are almost as exciting as the performance itself. Don't you think they got jipped! They should've won!!!! I think this is my fifth time back here to watch this performance:)...thanks for posting and say hola to your salsa buddy:)!
Mi abuelo bailaba puro paso enrredado y aleteo.
Columbian style is off the freakin hook. They are the only competitors who actually look like they are putting on a performance as opposed to trying to compete and hit a clean position. Unfreakinbelivable! They are the example of what a competitive number should represent. Supersonic!!!! Great heart!
Yeah you know what I can't watch this too many times; it makes me want to jump out in the middle of the street and go bonker...lmao wooooooooooohooooooooooo YEAH!:) hehehe
Hahahaha... interesting comparison. Olivia and Johnny were known for their flashy, fast choreographies full of cool tricks back in late '90s/early 2000's... similar to how Colombian routines -especially from this competition- are now.
jajajaj caleñostyle los tiene bombardedos con ese mensaje no! jajajajaja pa q vean y aprendan, bien por esa, arriba cali ijue.....jajajajaj sssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

dancers from other countries should try to actually dance more to the music especially the men when dancing on 1 or 2 which just basically stand there while they spin the women thats the key difference in the cali, colombia style there is ALWAYS MOVEMENT!!!
Me and my partner sneha(INDIA) competed at the WSC 2007 this year. We performed on Friday 14th Dec on the night of the second semi final. If you could upload our video so we can review how we did we would really appreciate it. We were the only couple from India in the cabaret division. I was wearing black and sneha was wearing a tri colored dress bright pink, orange and neon green. She is standing on top of me at the beginning of our routine. thanks in advance - Richard
Hey amigo, sorry I just checked but I do not have the video of your performance, I only recorded about half of the semis as my hand was quite tired from holding the camera ;).
Ask around, I'm sure someone recorded it that will post it eventually, Good Luck.
"They should open a category for Casino, Son, and rueda de Casino in these events then, don´t you agree?".
No, simply because there have not been a large number of dancers from these categories you mentioned that have competed in this event, or previous WSC events.
YES endeed!! simply because casineros like myself are a minority doesn´t mean we DONT have the right to ask for a category for us too, at the end of the day what we do is salsa too, but our problem is that linear style is more "showy" which denies our expectations to achieve first places in these championships, the same problem you have now with Colombians...
There's no doubt dat colombian style is way different, although i don't think it should inquire in a different category, simply because no one else does dat style and it'll be ironic to have only competitors from one country in a world wide championship...but also there's no doubt dat if this continuos the world won't see another trophy because the colombians will take it all!!!
son muy buenos.. pero kroe ke demasiadas cargadas o levantadas, recuerden es salsaaa y la salsa de coketea se disfruta se usan los brazos en giros en miradas.. la scargadas estan lindas pero En mi opinion demasiadas.
If they do another category called Boogaloo they should do a different category for Casineros and Rueda too, after all they dance excelent salsa too, that would be fare. Colombians are great dancers... duela a quien le duela...
... is what myself and many other professional dancers are thinking, especially those performers in the Team division.
Not intending by any means to discredit the awesome dancers from Colombia, rather point out the fact that their style of Salsa, while excellent in its own right, differs significantly from LA On1 or NY/PR On2, hence comparing the styles within a single division has proved debatable.
It souds like somebody is scared to compete with Colombians! We feel the music differently, but at the end, it is all salsa (Casino and L.A. styles are different too). I think people are frustrated to see them win everything, and that is understandable.
"Scared" would not be the adjective I would use to describe the current controversy regarding comparing Colombian-style salsa and other types.
My OPINION is that in future WSC's there should be a separate division for Colombian-style salsa, just as there are separate divisions for On 1, On 2, and Cabaret.
Please let's keep comments regarding this and other video posts professional, thanks everyone.
I don't think there should be any further divisions after (1) On1, (2) On2, and (3) Cabaret. Are you suggesting that the additional categories should be (4) Colombian On1/On2 and (5) Colombian Cabaret? That doesn't make much sense to me. Everything should stay the way it is, and just be a challenge for everybody else to try to get better. It's a wake-up call for the LA-style and NY-style dancers to stop doing the same old stuff and expect to win.
I'm suggesting there be one (1) separate division for Columbian-style salsa. And I'm not alone in my views, though I tend to be the loudest ;).
Ultimately its up to the judges to interpret the performances, Albert(and his associates) to decide on the categories, and the dancers to decide to compete.
Having just one division for all Colombian-style Salsa will then force the "grounded" Colombian dancers (On1/On2) to compete against all the Colombian acrobatics (Cabaret), which isn't really fair either.
Honestly, I don't even think that On1 and On2 should be separate divisions. I'd prefer to have just one category for acrobatics and one category for the rest. Is there any reason for so many categories, other than to let various dancers market themselves as "world finalists"?
thats a polemic subject.the colombian couples are amazing but everyone must agree is a completely different style than on1 and on2.the way colombians feel the musicality , their energy is absolutely awsome but its hard to compare to a couple tryind to do patterns in a line.I dont know what/where is your basic step and I believe many people dont ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT THE REASON FOR CREATING A SEPARATED CATEGORY..in the end I agree all is salsa but I cant compare them.how can they????
The Colombians do turns, neckdrops, etc., just like people who dance "in a line." The difference comes from their quick feet and overall energy...but that's not a good enough reason to create a whole new category. Oh, and here's the little secret about their basic step -- it's essentially Chachacha done to Salsa music. They just pick really fast music (and lift their feet instead of shuffling) to add the "wow" factor. So, I think it IS possible to compare their dancing to everybody else's.
well for starters ITs COLOMBIAN NOT COLUMBIAN!colombians win cabaret because of the risks they take in lifts and the capability they have to keep up the fast foot work... but if u kick the ballistics the Cabaret category is ANY style salsa ON1, ON2 or CAli, colombia style with any lifts over the shoulders!so why would there need to be a seperate category?
Definitivamente no se puede negar lo que se lleva en la sangre, es indiscutible que la gente Colombiana bailan al ritmo de los instrumentos, WOW... o como diria mi mama, guau!!!

Wow!!! Now I see why everybody is so scared of these guys.
Why nodoby complained when on1/on2 salsa style was prefered in these competitions over Casino style and Rueda?
They should open a category for Casino, Son, and rueda de Casino in these events then, don´t you agree?
These guys have proved to the world that salsa is not only Linear style.
Come on!! ENJOY THE DIVERSITY!!
