  • Mark Don and Mel...come back to us just one more time.. phil knight built a brand new stadium in eugene, oregon ..just for you~~~come on guys..younger generation don't know who you are.........i will never forget///thanks Utube for the videos, all my "tracks"lol,,,are dead/

  • Terry knight ! and thats what they said

  • Where was this show recorded?

  • I heard on VH-1 a while back that GFR stole the show from Zeppelin one time and Zep's manager Peter Grant grabbed GF'S manager by the throat backstage..Something like that..

  • @mrgb46 That is a fact. It did happen. Peter Grant was very intimidating and Led Zeppelin refused to take the stage that night. Don't know if he grabbed him by the throat part though.

  • saw them live in mpls..1971 i think it was...great show

  • Was at Shea Stadium for their concert in 1971. Oh yeah!

  • Saw Grand Funk , The James Gang, Steve Miller, and Paul Butterfield (? I think) the summer of 69 or 70. It was a free outdoor concert in Cincinnati and was the best concert I have been to. The radio was sponsoring it and really promoting The James Gang with their new release. We went crazy over Grand Funk and they finally had to be pulled. James Gang was great, but we wanted more of Grand Funk!!!

  • This is just the shit:)

  • Why have I never even heard of this band? õ_o

  • @Mixarenan Yes, howcome that is?

  • Never Got to see them with mark , but still one of my all time faves and the most under rated Super group of all time!

  • great band ...better live than zeplin....thanks for posting

  • Excellent live video and sound. Alexbhbr, you've obviously have take some to put this up with this audio and video. One of the very best I've seen and heard on youtube for being live. In fact, right now I put it at no.1 For GFR postings.

  • I saw them 3 times back in the day. Not even one close to being nothing other than fantastic. Last time Mark had this guitar, and I thought it was chrome plated because when the spot light reflected off it, made it even surreal. I think there was a concert that Led "which I love" refused to go on after them after seeing them play and the crowds response to them. They did not have the technology they have today to make most bands sound like they did today. GFR , obviously, over came that here.

  • they blew ledzepplin away in madison square gardens back in 1970 and that is no shit

  • this kind of energy and passion is nowhere to be seen in today's bands

  • Energía pura.

  • the funk got me through a tough time.

  • @nofortunatesonII ya & Don Brewer is still an unrerated drumer my band used to open with WE"RE AN AMERICAN BAND (sorry the song deserves capitalizeing)& then Black Licorice.

  • @mitch222ful: BTO wasn't even a band yet in 1970, they didn't form until 1973.

'You DO remember The Guess Who, right?

Thanks to whomever posted this, good stuff.

  • @joetoronto I stand corrected I called my old bandmate in birmingham & it ws 74 whn they opened 4 GF cs GF had there keyboard player .We wanted to her the american band album live cs we wre doing so many songs off of it.(& ya i remember Burton Cummings Stand Tall was killer hahahahahahahahaha!)

  • classic funk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Probably one of THE most underated (by the so-called critics) bands of the early 70s. However those of us who appreciated what we were hearing and seeing are the BEST critics ever. God Bless all. Peace!

  • Amen Seymour

  • axle rose is not half the performer as mark farner.

  • And just imagine peaking in the middle of this song at one of their concerts......if reincarnation is true, I hope I come back as me once more and the 70's start all over again.

  • Grand Funk, the absolute epitomy of what 70's Rock was all about. Damn, this takes me back to some awesome times. Rock on.

  • This is the TRUE Heartbreaker. Led Zeppelin's is OK, but this one... WOW!

  • Actually Pat Benetar's is the TRUE one. Everyone knows that c,mon.

  • Pat was twelve years old, when Grand Funk did this!!!!!!

  • Her parents should have gotten her braces when she was 12.

  • You are an ass!

  • Hey, checkout my screen name. I like fat pussy, wanna hook up big mama ?

    Long live the Funk!

  • real rock and roll,i was 14 in 75" listening to this,,damm i had good taste...tooter.

  • So Madonna is in the R&R Hall of Fame and GFR is not. Proves what a joke it is!

  • Michigan Rock at It's Best!

  • Fashion is temporary.

    Class is permanent !

  • Alex--I'm a middle aged rocker and I grew up with this band amongst others. Check out my vids. Search "Pleasure Junkie" or my channel":

    PleasureJunky

I know you'll love my old vids plus me playing some improv guitar. Thanks for the GFR

H eis a big influence on me as a singer/ guitarist

    Tony Romeio

    Singerguy9977 on Youtube

  • HUH? You are in a frenzy funk cuz. Get with the program and support our fellow Funk Cousins with some publicity we all can understand.

  • these white boys sing can sing the blues kind of way.....style......freakin A

  • yes, they are the best!...

  • Be the best and the greatest and hop on board the Funk cousin express.

  • awesome brings back alot of memories

  • You young folk have to realize this was the attire back in the day. If you don't like the clothes turn off the screen and just listen. You young cousins need to lay of the Special K and the Meth and live like us older cousins.

  • Danmn right dude.

  • Couldn't Farner afford any shirts?

    Ugly outfits.

That drummer dresses like Taters the Clown sometimes.

    B

  • With the body he had and still has to this day, Farner doesn't need any clothes, I'm sure all the female fans will agree. He is the best rocker of all time. Maybe the drummer, could have dressed differently but he is so damned talented...who cares?

  • With a body like Farner's it would have been a crime to put a shirt on him. And the gold band he wears on his right bicep is soooooo sexy...it makes him look so virile...and the hair..and that ass...oh God, pls. help me. And to think I saw them live a couple of times '69-'71.I went with my boyfriend; if I could turn back time I would have jumped the stage and attacked him! Mark was the most beautiful, desirable man I had ever seen.

  • I agree with you, Violetrod. Mark was not hard to look at, that's for sure. So talented AND a great looking guy!

  • Bekki54: Mark was hot hot hot for days!!!! I look at him now and wish I'd paid more attention when I saw him live. A concert was not a concert back ITGOD (in the good old days) unless good medication was involved so half the time I was sooooo hammered but I wouldn't trade the '60s/70s for anything. I just remember there was one special member on stage that made me cream in my jeans although I was in a foggy state. Oh, to be as clear as I am now and to able to see him the way he looked then.

  • If you saw them live back in the day you would have a different view.Listen to us older cousins cuz!

  • Grand Funk is the best group of rock and roll

  • oi!!! how can you say they are the best? they are great! but the best?

  • Excuseme, but I am not native of English. For me best and great are synonymous.

  • Superb performance.

  • Many guys have met a woman that breaks your freaking heart, this song is the best.

  • Amen Brother..... H.

  • amaaaaaaaaaaazing video

  • I really love this music and an avid fan of Granfunk railroad......1976's

  • they are the best R&R band then and still now to me

  • What a performance from GFR !

Thanks for having uploaded this video clip.

  • Great stuff cuz!!

  • Someone has a video of loneliest rider? Please i need it. The one they play this song with an orquestra behind. If u have it plz send me a message.

  • Wow i cant believe this was in 74' i was born 10 years later. I saw them twice in concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles with my dad. They were great. I love GFR. This is my favorite song id have to say. I think they dont have the recognition that they deserve but all i have to say is that they are great. Long live Grand Funk Railroad.

  • Straight outta Flint! Represent 810 boys!

  • gfr suck !!... fan's of them too.... huuuaaaa..haa..haaa....

Long live Rock 'n Roll... Long live Led Zeppelin !!..

  • Why do you bother posting here then?

No one who knows anything about music would ever say that Grand Funk Railroad sucks.

  • You'd be surprised that GFR blew Led Zeppelin off the stage when they opened for them back in 1969. This was documented in an old Rock Magazine named Planet.

  • Planet???? Planet apes???? gorillas??? ha...haaa...haa... fuck you gorilla, and fuck your idol... haaaaa....haaaaaa....haaaaaaaa.......

  • I heard that that GFR's road manager got his ass seriously kicked by Zepp's manager because Mark & the boys won the crowd over . . . those were the days (pass that doobie, brother!!)

  • waaakkkkaaakkkaaakkk...... the world knows that LZ better than gfr!!!

  • "The bong rattling bass of Mel Scharer"-Homer Simpson

  • Mark Farner. Mr. a**kicker!

  • kick that bass drum,Don!

  • classical rock on its own right... yes very american band....well over rated lz.....f@#$%^ that

  • Fantastic.

What a performance. Almost rivals with some of Rush or The Rolling Stones' concerts.

  • By far and away the best version of Heartbreaker. When the day finally comes for the Hall Of Shame it would be unfortunate if they didn't play this at the induction ceremony. Probably be American Band.

  • grand funk were much aligned here in the UK by the music press (only 3 chords etc). shame they were really good and this vid is evidence of that.

  • excellent!

  • Grand Funk rules!! This song is definately one of the great songs of all times..wow!!

  • For all you Morons....There is know " Greatest Song Ever Only Great Songs...And this is one of them. So for fuck sakes just be glad we can enjoy them. H

  • WOW!!!

  • esta canción es espectacularmente buena.. puta madre es de las mejores canciones que he escuchado

  • grand funk had their moments I guess...well all miss em..well done lads..

  • nuf said.....

  • The guitar in this song was made by Veleno. he was a guitar maker from Florida that made many guitars for many artists and was a pioneer in guitar design. his guitars were made of aluminum. Todd Rundgren also played Veleno guitars with his band Utopia.

  • Esta es una de las mejores canciones de rock que han existido!!!!!!

  • as a young lad, this was like the song that melted us all and had us jumping. i really like his way of prancing about the stage too, in unison with his comrade on the bass. too bad that , according to Mark Farner himself, he no longer can even play his own music(one of those contractual deals or something)

    life is strange,'eh?

  • cool vid thanks

  • GFR r a good band but i love led zeppelin and i believe they r much better. Those of you saying thatt LZ had to kick them out off the stage in 1969, LZ had 1 fuckin CD out. They didnt have all there stuff they ever made like STH, Achilles last stand, etc. out yet.

  • shut up punk NO DRAMA QUEENS ALLOWED

  • Does Farner's axe have a Dean V style headstock? Very cool video. Thanks for posting it up. I would rather have seen these guys than Zep.Ratz...

  • This band is nothing like Rush. You young folk have no feeling for good rock!

  • TYA....period.

  • Saw this band several times in my town hall in UK in the very early 70's, this must be where I started my love for the music of Rush, on this performance GFR are comparable on every level, thanks for the video.

  • I remember playing this song in the late early 70s in my garage band. This was always the greatest song to jam to. What great music. Thanks for the memories. P.S. Was Mark the first person to use the strat right strat neck with the left strat body design. I thought it was Eddie VanHanlen.

  • FUCKIN' TITS!....Mark was on TOP of his game at this point....The Syncronization between mark, Don, and mel is Amazing! Definately MY favorite GFR tune! They'll NEVER play like that again!...GREAT footage...Thanks for the Post!

  • hey neon...I think Tommy Lee copped some style from Brewer...I saw him with Segar later and he was amazing..

  • MARK FARNER..BRILLANTE

  • Mark Farner is the steam, Don Brewer the pistons, Mel the wheels - one big fat funky unstoppable locomotive. I love how the rock press tried to stop them back then, but audiences said otherwise.

  • Watching this perfection of a live performance and I have to ask myself why is Don Brewer never mentioned in the same breath as Jon Bonham, Keith Moon, and Neil Peart? There is no justice in the world after all.

  • What a great band! Such excellent musicians. 5 stars!

  • This is the second GFR song I ever heard at age 13, played live by a local band at a lakeside recreation hall. I didn't know it was a GF tune until some time later. I just remember being blown away as I'd never heard anything like it.

  • Put this band tn the Hall Of Fame

  • And Jimmy Page on guitar and Bonham on drums....simply put..they were/are masters...wish these comments were allowed to be longer. Hard to tell when your limited..change it UTUBE.

  • Then again, GFR had 2 #1 songs...We're an American Band and the platinum selling Locomotion...#1 for 4 weeks. On the album side it was Zeppelin.

  • GFR was my favorite group as a kid. I give a nod to Zeppelin as slightly better....love em both

  • excelente

  • Thank U...Heartbreaker............

  • The energy these guys generated. You could start a hurricane or a raging forest fire. Led Zep is pretty tame compared to them. I remember during this time radio stations would do battle of the bands. These guys won every time. Why no Hall of Fame ??

  • Grand Funk were a monster band in history of rock and roll and they deserved to be in Hall of Fame of course but a comparison with Led Zeppelin..... no way.....

  • I was checkin' out the headstock on that guitar...what make and model is THAT? These guys taught Zep how to tour America...

Mark Farner, one bad ass, guitar playing/singing frontman! Awesome video.

  • I was wondering the same thing. Musta been custom made or something. His old one was an odd brand too. Musta had something against against Fender & Gibson.

  • Great voice... Love this group!

  • Hall of Fame is empty without GFR
