  • hahaha that was awesome

  • You NEVER put your thumb between the chamber & cylinder on ANY revolver. That's a sure fire way of damaging yourself.

  • I am sure the thumb will go off there is no doubt about it.

  • Didn't Mythbusters test this as well? I think the result was plausible.

  • outch...

  • dude you sound like arnold schwarzenegger " wow that was so freaking painful aahh ah"

  • A carrot is not a good demonstration you should try your penis next time

  • @MegaHairyass LOLOLOLOLOL I nearly peed my pants reading your comment. That was great!

  • i was shot at with one of these..not the best situtaion to be in. but lovely gun either way.

  • muahahah!!!!!! fuck lol muahah!!!

  • And that's why you don't use revolvers XD

  • I don't doubt that it's going to do serious damage if your thumb is there, but I also don't think that a carrot is the best demonstrator of that, considering I can break a carrot with just a few pounds of force in the right spot.

  • I shot a 22 revolver and had my thumb too close to the cylinder once. It smarted enough that I don't even want to think about that happening with a .50.

  • poop

  • It's ridiculous to have a gun that powerful with a barrel that short. Or any handgun, really.

  • @youtert HUH?

  • Man, I knew it was Bullseye the instant I saw those targets and crappy booths that look like the wall's been hole-punched. Still, I can't argue with the range rates!

  • is that an alien signal i hear in the background?

  • whats that frickin noise???

  • Just imagine what General Lee could have done with a few of those.

  • Time to feed the rabbit :)

  • Wouldn't it be easier to use a paring knife?

  • ..........say again?

  • Mythbusters used chicken wings and had a similar effect.

I wonder if anyone's actually lost a finger yet.

  • @GunOwnerDan Mythbusters did the show because a guy lost his finger. He sent them the picture and everything.

  • @GunOwnerDan If you do a google image search of "s&w 460 thumb" you will find a pretty nasty pic of somebody who blew their thumb off(part of it at least)

  • Good example. I will try this with my .44 magnum .

  • mythbusters did this too

  • Matchstick carrots...

  • liioked like a flamethrower in slomo.

  • I will make this pencil...DISAPEAR!

    TA-DAAAA! it's gone!

  • With one hand to... ouch

  • carrots arn't exactly anatomically correct... but those things can do alot of dammage to fingers so take what this guy says seriously and get proper traing when handling firearms

  • umm next time jackasss either use a sutible finrger stand in such as a balistics gell finger(not that hard to find and produce), OR YOUR OWN DAMN FINGER

  • MYTH CONFIRMED

  • Very well done vid and example of what could happen when not thinking safety first with any firearm, let alone a .500 Mag. What type of load were you using when you shot this video??

  • check out mythbusters version....nasty results

  • dude you cant compare a carrot to a human hand

  • yeh!

  • @boredguy300

But the point is clear: keep your digits clear from where the barrel meets the drum because you WILL injure any fingers that are there if you don't.

  • it would cut to the bone man

  • @boredguy300 yea thats true but i think he made his point lol. your thumb will still not be happy if it is forward of the chamber

  • @boredguy300 If you're going to stick part of your hand near the gap between the barrel and cylinder you might as well go all the way and just put it in front of the barrel. Muzzle blast can and will cause permanent damage or death with an appropriately powerful weapon. Look at the gapflash in the slow motion shot. That is comparable to putting your hand in front of an Oxy-Acetylene cutting torch. It will only cook the carrot but really screw up your fingers.

  • good job on the vid, you may have saved someone's hand :)

  • This dude makes me nervous.

  • 0:45 hes holding a akimbo a carrot and a magnum

  • lol you'll never see the same combo of items again in your life!

  • Millerusaf says it's ok to put your finger there because he is an expert from the Air Force that knows techniques that normal people will never learn.

  • thats some serious power if that gun made a full grown man take a step back when he shot.

  • Not really.....check out my wife shooting the same gun....she makes it look easy!

  • Well done hanging onto that thing. 17th century called, they want thier cannon back :)

  • @Psyberdream you know, i always wonder what would happen if you gave some civil war era soldiers some 5.56 or 7.62 rifles with ap rounds. not to mention the fact they fire around 800 rounds a minute, it would be a mess when they line up and shoot at each other instead of taking cover.

  • @Psyberdream i've shot the S&W 500 same model, and im 15 years old, it really isnt as bad as people think. Video proof on my channel.

  • @Psyberdream how are they going to make a call in the 17th century? xD

  • Murderer!!!

  • Carrots aren't people. :L

  • You ever bite into am uncooked carrot? It is hard as hell. Now imagine your soft tissue substituted for that carrot and you might see the logic.

  • more like shredded off :P

  • Ty alot..

  • dude thank u thank u thank u for showing us dis like no lie lol good tip

  • put that shit in some stew!

  • mmmmm stew

  • why does a lightweight grizzly pistol exist???!!!?

  • For the pigmy grizzlies

  • Instead of having to lug a rifle or a shotgun into the bush, all you have to have is one "little" handgun? Not to mention you might be able to carry more ammo for it than for a shotgun.

  • Pistols and revolvers are not rifles. The .500 S&W is a monster revolver, and just manages to get into "intermediate" rifle energy levels. It still won't touch a .308 deer rifle.

It's also a ton less accurate, and has terrible recoil. The rounds aren't a whole lot smaller than shot shells, and it holds 5. You can fit 8+1 in a typical pump action.

10+ rounds out of this thing and even a big guy's wrists are gonna be giving out, vs. dozens of shot shells with no problem.

  • I'm not so sure he's even using the S&W 500. Those things are supposed to be huge.

Also, the design of the gun is meant to prevent recoil.

  • A muzzle brake might keep you from wrecking your wrists the first shot, but it definitely can't *prevent* recoil.

That thing will have you hurting no matter what you mount on the end of it.

  • Sorry, you're right. Recoil can't be prevented. I was thinking that I typed in "reduce" recoil, but I guess that was only in my head. Thanks for pointing that out.

It's strange because this hot chick on Manswers fired a 500 S&W and didn't suffer much recoil compared to the .44 Magnum.

  • @acoti the 500 that the chick shot on mansewrs had a 8 inch ported barrel, that one had a 4 incher with no holes on the top to prevent the muzzle from going upwards

  • @2403328 that 4 incher has a ported barrel, holes are on the side of the barrel.

  • Dude there's not just one variety of S&W 500.

  • Man I wish my shotgun was 8+1!

  • @MagneticDog Just do a search for your shotgun and "extended mag tube".

For an 870 it's like 20 bucks, and they just screw right on--two minute install.

  • its all in how you handle the firearm any gun can jump back in bite you in the face or break your thumb with the action but as long as you know what your oding there should be no problem

  • mythbusters did this and thats now a double confirmed myth..and you one handed it!

  • Good info!

  • peter north's penis could handle that blast

  • it looks like the juicer is going to be obsolete

  • Holy shit, poor carrot =(

  • Wow, It shredded the end of the carrot. You can see lil strands go flying...

    Nice Vid...

  • but really you've never fired any handgun in real life. No, counterstrike isn't the same thing

  • rofl wow cool vid. and valuable information also.

    nice job =D

  • I accidentally my thumb. Is that bad?

  • lesson here is, don't mess with a S&W 500

  • yeah thats for thugs LOL

  • Looking down that barrel would be intimidating enough. I'd hate that to be the last thing I saw.

  • for real

  • wow....:| you almost killed god....

  • Most people do not understand how powerful these handguns are , this clearly demonstrates it! I show my friends that I allow fire my S&W 500 how to hold the weapon, now I can use a carrot as a visual aid . Thanks for the idea , have fun and shoot safe my friend!

  • the gun alone is intimidating fukkn sweet

  • Even powerful when the bullet doesn't hit you. I be sorry for anyone at the end of that thing.

  • never one hand a 50. learned that the hard way

  • sure ya did

  • Where the hell is your eye protection?

  • No kiddin huh

  • is that bullseye in lawrenceville?

  • Yes, Sir!

  • thought it looked familiar

  • @BiffBallbag that must have been before all the dumb asses shot out the lights cause its like a cave in there.

  • ..that was painful... i cant only imagine.. thanks for the heads up!

  • My sister got burned when she did this with my '51 Navy black powder revolver. "Ouch! That HURT!" she shouted. "Why didn't you warn me?"

"Because it never would occur to me in a thousand years that anyone would be dumb enough to hold their hand like that."

In any revolver (except a Russian Nagant) EXPECT a sheet of high pressure/high temperature flame to come out the narrow gap between the front of the revolving cylinder and the back end of the stationary barrel.

    Keep hands clear!

  • Jesus Christ, i hope no one gets shot by that monster

  • a bugler in my house will

  • all revolvers have a small gap between the front of the cylinder and as shown will give you a nasty wound if your finger of hand is there when fired!

  • not a newbie to guns, but to handguns in general... i want to shoot but am frightened without an instructor (cant afford 1 of those) i might not hold the peice right....

  • When you start with handguns or revolvers get a Ruger Single Six first. They will set you back about $175. And it is hard to hurt your self with them.

  • Damn I got one of those 4" barrel to. Honestly to afraid of putting any fleshy body part in front of the trigger period. Now I know I was right. Good vid hope your thumbs doing better.

  • I catch those bullets in my teeth.

  • o yeah i catch them in my butt cheeks yeah ill be save in prison

  • lmao

  • so thats purely the shockwave or something ?

  • There's a small gap between the cylinder and the barrel where gas escapes. Placing any part of the body along the side of this gap (usually the hands/fingers) will result in rather nasty burn injuries. In some cases, bone is actually exposed.

  • things a HAND CANNON!

  • Well done. I don't think anyone would be dumb enough to stick their thumb there, but who knows; there are plenty of stupid people in the world. I hope this video really saves thumbs.

  • The gun-range where I go has a black-and-white photo-copy of someone who put their whole hand under the cylinder-barrel gap to brace the gun. It was just a .44 mag ("just") and their fingers looked pretty messed up.

Don't even like to think about that same accident with a .500.

It's possible they bought it themselves and shot it alone, but more likely the 'instructor', or owner missed that detail until after it was too late.

  • Well done video. The carrot splinters to the lower left, cool effect.

  • Real nasty power in there.

  • Great video. Ha!
