I'm not really that impressed with the speed(not that it isn't impressive, i certainly can't play that fast). But its more the smoothness of the quarter note triplet flams over the 16ths on the kick, that most impresses me. I would call that polyrhythm more impressive than bleed.

@MehdiGlz You need a double bass pedal and you can play double bass with any bass drum. The triggers he is talking about is a device that sensors the bass drum hit and produces and digital bass drum sound of the same volume no matter how hard you hit through the PA-system.

But you don't really need triggers, you just have to practice hitting fast and hard and you get much more respect if you don't use triggers.

Guys like Kollias and Roddy openly admit it; at the tempos death metal songs can get to, it's downright impossible to play straight 16th notes without sounding floppy, no matter how good your technique is. It's purely a matter of sound quality.

I honestly don't care what you use, as long as it sounds good.

@hlli999 Oh he uses them, he's pretty open about it. It's not even a question of making it easier, I'm sure he can play 300 bpm any day of the week, but it just cleans up the drum sound. Makes your individual drum hits more distinguishable. But it doesn't mean he can be sloppy, if anything the triggers only make errors more apparent.
