  • I was feeling depressed then i found this and i danced around the room.......thanks....now saved to my favorites.... :D

  • Big Daddy Was The Greatist R.I.P.

  • NOYCE!

  • It doesn't get any better than this! Wow!

  • While I am a fan of Teddy, the guy singing lead does a fantastic job! Also, the backup singers are really enjoying what they are doing especially the one next to the lead. Just looking at the audience tells me all I need to know.... They're loving this just like me! Thank you for posting, it is in my favs!

  • When these guys are gone, I pray others will take their place with kind of music.

  • Good feeling music, great singers, and all about love. Who can argue with that?

  • So many wonderful memories of this great song...thank you for the outstanding video

  • Those of us who were lucky enough to be teenagers in the 60's are blessed.

  • I'm asking politely, no more race comments please, this kind of music crosses ALL musical barriers, doesn't matter if you're white or black, this is too hot

  • Where's the Teddy bear?

  • im only 15, and my god father showed all these 60's and 70s music to me. and i love it :D

  • !!!!!outstanding!!!

  • Hey Its alright to be white and like Sound Of Philadelphia BEST !!! When this song came out , I was only 14 and thought Damn alot of great music is coming out of Philly no matter who or what you are !! As a little white boy going to Cook Jr High school .... Learn alot about music going through that school and thats the only thing i learn .....

  • After all these [great] years! STILL the best R&B song of all time (and I'm white).

  • great .......

  • One of the greatest songs in the world. 100 years from now people will still listen.

  • SENDING THIS OUT TO MY GRAMMA. WE IN THE KITCHEN IN LONDON TOWNE AND YOU HAVE THROWN YOUR ARMS IN THE AIR AND SHRUGGED YOUR SHOULDERS AND DID YOUR DIP. THATS WHERE I GET MY MOVES FROM. LOVE AND MISS YOU GRAMMA....R.I.P

  • Too bad they weren't as good as The Spinners; Nice try, by the way.

  • @kja427 maybe not THIS version but the Teddy Pendergrass version of HM and the BN is

  • true african american artist ,the best past and future .not like the crap we have today

  • These are not the ORIGINAL BLUE NOTES sadly they've passed on all but one Lloyd....

  • It is a shame, the new lead vocalist is dynamite, and he will mostly be refered to as the New Guy! There have been a few formidable lead vocalist who replaced Teddy Pendergrass in Harold Melvins Blue Notes. Ollie Ali Woodson, later to lead the Temptations, stood in for The Teddy Bear for a while. The lead vocalist here does a great job, considering he has a similar voice as Teddy, but he is not impersonating Teddy, which is hard to not do when you replace someone. Malik Jubal

  • Hot Damn!!!

  • teddy

  • just for the record teddy pendergrass was the lead singer on this song first back in the early 70's God bless his soul. but this guy that singing now is doing a good job this is good old american music bring it back please twin 07/23/11

  • I saw these guys yesterday! Excellent.

However, who is the lead singer?

Also, who originally sang this? Teddy or Harold.

  • Jesus what happened to great music like this.

  • Love it....Singing and the dance moves....This is when music was music...

  • This was reeeeeal music

  • notice the lack of smoke, mirrors, meat dresses, etal. this is real American music made by real singers, long live The Sound of Philadelphia and MOTOWN

  • I love this version

  • wow this might be my favorite song of all time. this song is just a little head of my time but hands down this era was the greatest in rnb/soul music!!

  • Love this video! Big Daddy sounds just like Harold Melvin! I love the way those old guys move!

  • My favorite Blue Notes' tune! The fellas can still get down, baby!

  • Mine as well Bobamclaughlin

  • Mine as well Bobanclaughlin

  • These Brutha's ARE BAD ASS!

  • That song kills me inside. I lost someone years ago and he will forever have a place in my heart.

  • I Miss My Best Friend Willie Nelson Steve

  • @bobud1234 I Hope You Are Alright.

  • The beautiful thing about music like this is that it most certainly can help bridge any gaps in race...white, black or whatever, no denying quality! Thanks for posting

  • @2009Denisem You echo my thoughts and feelings perfectly. As I approach 60 I find myself becoming very nostalgic thinking so much of my past good times as well as memories of great motown, and rock music of the 60's and 70's that will remain etched in my heart and soul forever.

  • PHENOMENAL!! Thanks for the feelings, guys. Perfect execution; giving the audience (even here on YouTube) everything they got to give to it!

  • They don't make like them anymore! I may have white skin but my roots are R&B forever!

  • @KelliClark1000 Im the same way...lol..Motown/Soul FOREVER!!!

  • The guitar work in this is as soulful and as GREAT as it gets!!!

  • It's not complete without Teddy P. They are still good I guess.

  • Philly Rules !!!!

  • Motown Rules !!!!

  • not sure if there are any originals here, might have just bought the name

  • The Best of the Best. Motown will always be as good as it gets.

  • @asdf1751 Not Motown Philly Sound Gamble&Huff

  • It just doesn't get any better than this !!!!

  • The Blue Notes hit #7 in Billboard, 12-8-73. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Harold, and Teddy Bear.

  • All black people born to be singers .... this is incredible .... this is the kind of song that if you stop listening after a while and listen to it again ... just want to mourn ...!! congratulations and greetings from Mexico

The golden era of black music 50s -70s

  • always a hater in the bunch -- it's about the music and it's TIMELESS! Thanks for sharing the video!

  • Great shots of Harold and his BlueNotes but real poor illumination and arrangement/postioning and filming of the band, which is left out of what could be a much more dynamic music video than it turned out to be.

  • @2009Denisem Big Sis This is untouchable indeed!!!!! ....Old School...classic.....I am so glad I experienced that Era!!!!! ...Those songs like this one never die...sounds sweet today like yesterday!!!!!!

  • OMG how I loved Harold Melvin and the BlueNotes. I miss Harold and cried when I heard he had died but his stand in did a good job. I used to go and see them in Philly and AC in the "Chittlin Circuit" before the casinos came and ruined everything and all the good black clubs in Philly and AC folded. So many memories. I loved them all and the ones not here God bless and rest in peace.

  • @lydiacran3 I saw them at the Dell East in Philly a few years back, and Teddy's replaces really does a good job. There's only one Teddy but the replacement has a good umph to a voice where you definitely get the old feeling back.

  • we loved each other we just couldnt get along sad days and lonely nights

  • Come on north Philly, come on south Philly, Come on O'hara, come on Bonner...

  • What can I say

  • She was a good girl. What a classic. Very nice video.

  • Great song by a Great Group!

  • Brought a tear to my eyes.

Go head on Rufus!!!!! Yeah!! : D Much love to all ya'll. This is one of my favorite groups of all time. Their the best; real soul music!

  • Now this is Grreeeeat music!! Amazing! Incredible! Sensational!! WoW!!!

  • @2009Denisem I'm with you 110%. Man, just close your eyes and feel it; jet back to those years!! This is so moving. Even though it's a sad song of lament; it's a pleasant feeling you get when listening to it. This evokes emotion from the soul...

  • Now this is music. Niche music I'd call it... not great singers, but it all works and so beautifully especially whn you can see them too. Get up and dance, hum along, feel it and feel good. Music now days makes you angry and want to fight!! That's all it's good for and not much else.

  • they areNOT THE ORIGINALS THEY ARE A COVER

  • Enough said....Doesn't get any better than this,

  • R.I.P. Bernard Wilson who died the day after Teena Marie, They say the legends die this time of year

  • there's nothing in the world like soul music!! love it, love it, LOVE IT!! Thank you, Harold Melvin and the Blue notes! <3 <3 <3

  • This is Herold Melvin's Blue Notes, not Herold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Melvin died in 1997 from a stroke. This group was put together by Melvin's widow and features lead singer Donnell "Big Daddy" Gilespie. It is good to see the legacy of a fine group like HMBN is still going strong! RIP Harold & Teddy.

  • Hey, any musicians out there, listen up. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED. Let's get back to this kind of music. I love it!!!!

  • The love I lost got lost and maybe that was a "good thing" as Martha would say. Maybe I shoudl have said "get lost" sooner. Oh well, I'm a sucker for a good romantic line. I guess I blame my genes for that... Hungarian gypsies have too much soul in them and on the French side of the equator, well, all I can say is "oy vey" and Ballyhhooooooh!

  • wow...the best...nothing like this...this is music...

  • I was very sad to hear that he had recently died. I really enjoyed his music and will never get sick of listening to him and his band. RIP.

  • Wow the energy...you feel it. I'm 42. When I get to Heaven. The intensity of love will feel like this song..

  • One of my all time favorite songs....and I'm a white guy!!

  • @bobamclaughlin Don't matter what color you are just as long as youve got SOUL!!

  • @bobamclaughlin I am too, good music is appreciated by all.

  • i can listen to this song a dozen times and not

get tired of it, i can't say that about today's songs,

is mostly garbage. if i could turn back time, that

    would be nice.

  • My dad Rufus Thorne still got it!!! He's been a member of the group since the 70's and he's still jammin!! <3 u Fus your a class act!!! (he's the one on the far right)

  • @zeesalahuddeen1 May he live and sing forever. The world be lessor without his music.

  • Fantastic performance.

  • THANK YOU to HaroldMelvinVEVO for this wonderful post.

I have tears of joy in my eyes. The Sound of Philadelphia can stand tall in ANY music era......right up there with Motown, Stax, Chi-town, Beatles, Elvis, Sinatra......

OMG, I feel so blessed to have "lived" this music. RIP sweet TEDDY P.

  • The torch has been passed with class and the LEGACY lives on.

Nice job fellas. Awesome backup orchestra and the spirit of TEDDY's SOUL

is obvious here. There will NEVER be music and the feelings that it brought us, back in the day, like this ever again. You just had to have lived during that time period, to understand just exactly what the hell I'm talkin' bout.

  • The 5th microphone on the stage must be for teddy's memory. This gruop rocks !!!!!! Thank you so much !!!!!

  • Still sounding good.

  • Aw man, these are such DUDES! I love it. Sang, boys!!!
