While I am a fan of Teddy, the guy singing lead does a fantastic job! Also, the backup singers are really enjoying what they are doing especially the one next to the lead. Just looking at the audience tells me all I need to know.... They're loving this just like me! Thank you for posting, it is in my favs!
I'm asking politely, no more race comments please, this kind of music crosses ALL musical barriers, doesn't matter if you're white or black, this is too hot
Hey Its alright to be white and like Sound Of Philadelphia BEST !!! When this song came out , I was only 14 and thought Damn alot of great music is coming out of Philly no matter who or what you are !! As a little white boy going to Cook Jr High school .... Learn alot about music going through that school and thats the only thing i learn .....
SENDING THIS OUT TO MY GRAMMA. WE IN THE KITCHEN IN LONDON TOWNE AND YOU HAVE THROWN YOUR ARMS IN THE AIR AND SHRUGGED YOUR SHOULDERS AND DID YOUR DIP. THATS WHERE I GET MY MOVES FROM. LOVE AND MISS YOU GRAMMA....R.I.P
It is a shame, the new lead vocalist is dynamite, and he will mostly be refered to as the New Guy! There have been a few formidable lead vocalist who replaced Teddy Pendergrass in Harold Melvins Blue Notes. Ollie Ali Woodson, later to lead the Temptations, stood in for The Teddy Bear for a while. The lead vocalist here does a great job, considering he has a similar voice as Teddy, but he is not impersonating Teddy, which is hard to not do when you replace someone. Malik Jubal
just for the record teddy pendergrass was the lead singer on this song first back in the early 70's God bless his soul. but this guy that singing now is doing a good job this is good old american music bring it back please twin 07/23/11
notice the lack of smoke, mirrors, meat dresses, etal. this is real American music made by real singers, long live The Sound of Philadelphia and MOTOWN
wow this might be my favorite song of all time. this song is just a little head of my time but hands down this era was the greatest in rnb/soul music!!
The beautiful thing about music like this is that it most certainly can help bridge any gaps in race...white, black or whatever, no denying quality! Thanks for posting
@2009Denisem You echo my thoughts and feelings perfectly. As I approach 60 I find myself becoming very nostalgic thinking so much of my past good times as well as memories of great motown, and rock music of the 60's and 70's that will remain etched in my heart and soul forever.
All black people born to be singers .... this is incredible .... this is the kind of song that if you stop listening after a while and listen to it again ... just want to mourn ...!! congratulations and greetings from Mexico
Great shots of Harold and his BlueNotes but real poor illumination and arrangement/postioning and filming of the band, which is left out of what could be a much more dynamic music video than it turned out to be.
@2009Denisem Big Sis This is untouchable indeed!!!!! ....Old School...classic.....I am so glad I experienced that Era!!!!! ...Those songs like this one never die...sounds sweet today like yesterday!!!!!!
OMG how I loved Harold Melvin and the BlueNotes. I miss Harold and cried when I heard he had died but his stand in did a good job. I used to go and see them in Philly and AC in the "Chittlin Circuit" before the casinos came and ruined everything and all the good black clubs in Philly and AC folded. So many memories. I loved them all and the ones not here God bless and rest in peace.
@lydiacran3 I saw them at the Dell East in Philly a few years back, and Teddy's replaces really does a good job. There's only one Teddy but the replacement has a good umph to a voice where you definitely get the old feeling back.
oooooo you must be so proud!! He's doin' great out there....thanks for pointing him out; i don't know how, but i can almost read his personality through his moves....lol....he's sum'in else!! Go head on Rufus!!!!! Yeah!! : D Much love to all ya'll. This is one of my favorite groups of all time. Their the best; real soul music!
@2009Denisem I'm with you 110%. Man, just close your eyes and feel it; jet back to those years!! This is so moving. Even though it's a sad song of lament; it's a pleasant feeling you get when listening to it. This evokes emotion from the soul...
Now this is music. Niche music I'd call it... not great singers, but it all works and so beautifully especially whn you can see them too. Get up and dance, hum along, feel it and feel good. Music now days makes you angry and want to fight!! That's all it's good for and not much else.
This is Herold Melvin's Blue Notes, not Herold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Melvin died in 1997 from a stroke. This group was put together by Melvin's widow and features lead singer Donnell "Big Daddy" Gilespie. It is good to see the legacy of a fine group like HMBN is still going strong! RIP Harold & Teddy.
I love this music! I am only 27 years old so it's obviously before my time lol...But my aunts would play this kind of music all the time and I gained a soft spot for it :).
Disco Ball 9 live @ Trump Taj Mahal casino resort atlantic city nj usa on sat oct 16, 2010. starring live in concert, GLORIA GAYNOR, Rob Parissi of Wild Cherry, Santa esmeralda starring leroy gomez, the trammps featuring earl young, norma jean wright luci martin formerly of chic, rose royce, sugar hll gang, peaches and herb, musique, lime, linda cliford, anita ward, original village people cowboy randy jones, wcbs fm dj joe causi, smokin joe frazier. r u goin babe?

The love I lost got lost and maybe that was a "good thing" as Martha would say. Maybe I shoudl have said "get lost" sooner. Oh well, I'm a sucker for a good romantic line. I guess I blame my genes for that... Hungarian gypsies have too much soul in them and on the French side of the equator, well, all I can say is "oy vey" and Ballyhhooooooh!
My dad Rufus Thorne still got it!!! He's been a member of the group since the 70's and he's still jammin!! <3 u Fus your a class act!!! (he's the one on the far right)

Nice job fellas. Awesome backup orchestra and the spirit of TEDDY's SOUL
is obvious here. There will NEVER be music and the feelings that it brought us, back in the day, like this ever again. You just had to have lived during that time period, to understand just exactly what the hell I'm talkin' bout.
I was feeling depressed then i found this and i danced around the room.......thanks....now saved to my favorites.... :D
