i actually think the problem is the ease at which you can make your decision based off a gameplay video, back in the day games were so much funner because you didnt get to see the game in detail before you bought it, its like if a game isnt mainstream like cod then it wont get any attention because people arent talking about it, this is sad.

I don't get why people complain about this game not being similar enough to the original series. The Mario RPG's were a pretty huge departure from their source material and they were still pretty fun! When I look at this game, I see good shooter with clever RPG elements, some solid writing, and a Bioshock-esque level of historical depth and philosophical exploration. Just because it's not turn-based strategy doesn't mean it's bad.
As a shooter, this game looks solid - the tactical-style gameplay, alone, makes it somewhat worthy of the X-COM name. Hell, Interceptor was a flight sim and I haven't seen anyone complain about that, so I don't see why people would complain about this being an FPS. I'm still looking forward to the Firaxis remake more than this one, though, if only because of Enemy Unknown's true-to-the-original style.

The weapon sounds are weak, the cover system is formulaic and lacks any real depth to it and the only gimmick is that it's aliens, which isn't that much of a gimmick anymore anyway. Original xcom: enemy unknown is my favourite game of all times. I can see why alot of the fans would be dissapointed by this, but as many have said, this wont affect in any way the real remake of the game. Having that said, i think a 1st PS based on the game is actually an interesting idea, depending on how they present the other aspects of the xcom experience, but from what this showed, seems pretty weak. Switched the tense misson enviroment to a simple action game with simplistic gimmicks.

Man... Too many fucking first person shooters in the market... Developers these days have no creativity, no imagination... if it's PC.. it's gotta be first person, tower defense, strategy, D&D... Leave action/ adventure, third person to the consoles... I was a dedicated pc gamer for the last 5 years... I don't see the point of introducing cool hardware with some kickass names like GTX 560 or Core i7 if you don't make any use of it... Once my paycheck kicks in next month i'm getting a PS3..

I think it's okay if they change the style of the formula of a video game, but, for the sake of all old fans out there, they damn well better hae a good game in store for them.
I think they can do it right to play it from the first person perspective, but health regen, in this case, doesn't really make the enemies seem like much of a credible threat. Our heroes get pummeled by a titan, and are back up and ready to go within moments. The aliens get looked at sternly by the same tech, and are blown to bits. Health regen keeps things active and lively, but turns powerful aliens into insurgents from space, call of duty style. Other than that, I do like what I see.
The game doesn't look that bad, the setting is interesting, but it's not X-Com. I know this keeps being brought up. It's 'too risky' for publishers to sign off on new IP's when they can reuse popular ones from the past to try to cash in on past glories. But take some risks 2K. Look how well Dead Space did. Shiiiiiet.
Gotta agree with you, when I saw the health bars on the allies, I thought "oh, it looks like they're not going to dumb 'I can take 1 million bullets as long as I duck behind cover for a bit' way of regeneration, but I guess I was wrong. I accept it as long as there's a good reason for it, or it's a game that isn't trying to set a tone (other than sheer fun, like Just Cause 2. I purposely turn my brain off, and I am rewarded), but for this, unless they have health regen devices, no.
A big charm that people doesn't seem to get about older games and ESPECIALLY the x-com games was that they were hard as nails, your troops was mostly slaughtered in those games. Health regen is a curse to modern games. The 1962's setting seems nice but the game looks somehow very far from the original and not apealing at all :( this has been a huge letdown. also, how can they use that titan technology emidiately after capturing it? Isn't that just silly? :S get more inspiration from rainbow six?

Seems like a mix of Mass Effect and Brothers in Arms set in the "retro" style 50's... might be interesting if they add in some rts and rpg elements to it. I am intrigued to see how the style of this game will turn out.

Not seeing enough first person shooters these days. I applaud the developers in their gutsy decision to explore such an obscure genre. Who knows, maybe this first person shooter thing will blow up? Also, the looking down the sights at 3:00? Holy crap, that is some unique stuff.
If I wanted to play an alien FPS with great graphics and gameplay, I'd play Crysis. Crysis 2 was already infected by the console way of thinking, sporting worse graphics and scale. But still, it was much more fun and fluent than this game looks.
I'm not saying this game might not be fun but why waste and demolish such a good franchise name as X-Com on this pile of dung? The graphics look very console-ish and poor, the only noteworthy effect is the infection.
I'm really excited for this game! Sure, there's no chryssies, or adorable purple Mutons, but it looks really good! I just love the idea of reverse engineering your enemies technology and kicking their ass with it.
I love 2k. They are one of the only developers out there to make good 50's styled games. Think about it. Mafia 2, Bioshock 1 2 and soon 3. And now this. I know a lot of people played the original X-COM's and dont like this, but being a new X-COM guy, this looks sexy as hell.
If people would stop comparing it to old X-Com, this game looks great. It's similar to Mass Effect and has a strategic element to it as well. Hope there is a hot chick here too.

Granted, the old Xcom was a isometric turn based squad game but you could either use fancy tactics or just flatten a whole street just to fry one alien. As a big fan of the original X-com, I can say that this looks completely stupid. I'm not even going to get into how horrible it was to change it from a strategy game to a first person shooter, but to make the aliens some kind of cheesy Lawnmower Man bullshit? The game doesn't look that bad, the setting is interesting, but it's not X-Com. I know this keeps being brought up. It's 'too risky' for publishers to sign off on new IP's when they can reuse popular ones from the past to try to cash in on past glories. But take some risks 2K. Look how well Dead Space did. Gotta agree with you, when I saw the health bars on the allies, I thought "oh, it looks like they're not going to dumb 'I can take 1 million bullets as long as I duck behind cover for a bit' way of regeneration, but I guess I was wrong. I accept it as long as there's a good reason for it, or it's a game that isn't trying to set a tone (other than sheer fun, like Just Cause 2. I purposely turn my brain off, and I am rewarded), but for this, unless they have health regen devices, no.

A big charm that people doesn't seem to get about older games and ESPECIALLY the x-com games was that they were hard as nails, your troops was mostly slaughtered in those games. Health regen is a curse to modern games. The 1962's setting seems nice but the game looks somehow very far from the original and not apealing at all :( this has been a huge letdown. also, how can they use that titan technology emidiately after capturing it? Isn't that just silly? :S get more inspiration from rainbow six?

If I wanted to play an alien FPS with great graphics and gameplay, I'd play Crysis. Crysis 2 was already infected by the console way of thinking, sporting worse graphics and scale. But still, it was much more fun and fluent than this game looks.
I'm not saying this game might not be fun but why waste and demolish such a good franchise name as X-Com on this pile of dung? The graphics look very console-ish and poor, the only noteworthy effect is the infection.
And powers? Are you kidding me? Sigh.

I love 2k. They are one of the only developers out there to make good 50's styled games. Think about it. Mafia 2, Bioshock 1 2 and soon 3. And now this. I know a lot of people played the original X-COM's and dont like this, but being a new X-COM guy, this looks sexy as hell.

If people would stop comparing it to old X-Com, this game looks great. It's similar to Mass Effect and has a strategic element to it as well. Hope there is a hot chick here too.
I was hoping for a more X-Files feel though, with scary monsters in the dark.
Still looking forward to a real X-Com remake though, I don't think that style of game play needs to die. There is an X-Com online in development guys. Google it since I cant link here.

Granted, the old Xcom was a isometric turn based squad game but you could either use fancy tactics or just flatten a whole street just to fry one alien. IF I didn't like the look of the entrance hatch of a landed UFO, I could blast a new one. Did the devs actually figure out why Xcom was such a blast to play?

I don't care about the graphics, but I'm disappointed that they ditched innovative gameplay in a genre filled with potential to make another FPS. First Person Shooters are a Dozen a Dime today, how are you going to possible stand out in that crowd? The Money is in delivering either Solid & Innovative Gameplay or Storytelling, if you'd done that in a strategy game successor to the original, in this market. you would've gotten noticed by -EVERYONE-.

As a big fan of the original X-com, I can say that this looks completely stupid. I'm not even going to get into how horrible it was to change it from a strategy game to a first person shooter, but to make the aliens some kind of cheesy Lawnmower Man bullshit? That definitely ruins this game for me. What the hell were they thinking? Have these developers even played the original? The original aliens were biological, and cool looking.
