Funny how much things can change in just 4 years; SA closed and everyone's gone on to other things. Sad that the show is no longer on Broadway, but I think the OBC really captured lightning in a bottle - some shows can survive multiple cast changes (e.g., Wicked) and others can't. So glad there's YouTube and the OBC recording so we can relive it as much as we want!

wow, if Lea Michele was doing Spring Awakening for seven years and playing Wendla all that time, she was doing some pretty adult theater at a very very young age. Wedekind would have been pleased as his play was about 13 and 14 year old German children. Love the cast. Jonathan Groff and Lea Michele are such phenomenal talents!!

@CampbellScot I read in a interview that when she started spring awakening workshops at 14 the wasn't wasn't as racy. They didn't add the sex scene until Off Broadway when she was like 19. The musical has evolved alot since the beginning.

Hmm. That is just weird. To me they sound more complicated, and they just sound odd. Touch Me is my favorite song of the musical. And the lyrics are just so awesome.
@colddeepbasements These are the lyrics that have been in the show since it opened on Broadway. If you're confused because it's not the lyrics on the cast recording, the cast recording is outdated on lyrics/arrangements to a few different songs as it was presumably recorded before they finished doing revisions. I don't think it's supposed to be dumbed down or anything, this is just what Steven Sater liked better for whatever reason. Hope that helps? :)
@colddeepbasements Are you sure you saw the show from later than 2006, though? I've never seen the old lyrics used by an actual production (not counting like, Duncan Sheik) since then, including every time I saw it myself, so I don't think I'm mistaken? These are the lyrics listed in In the Flesh, too, so.
It doesn't really matter though. I just prefer the old lyrics. I was so used to them because of the show and because I also had the cd because I loved the show so much. But I plan on seeing it in March so I guess I will get to see it then.

Listening to Groff's voice on any spring awakening tracks makes me mad at the glee producers for giving him screechy songs instead of low songs that showcase his freaking beauty of his voice.
They are amazing. Their voices and movements, and that look between the JGJ and Groff, it's all incredible. You can totally feel the chemistry between them, even over youtube.

say what you want about Rosie O'Donnell but I love that she's such an advocate for promoting Broadway shows...I remember being 13 and seeing 'Cabaret' with Alan Cumming featured on 'The Rosie O'Donnell Show' and being hooked by that mesmerizing performance, it was the first time I'd seen a non-ALW musical and it opened my eyes to a whole new world of musical discovery; 13 years later and I'm now a junkie for Broadway shows

i hate to be 'that Girl' but this song is very glee-ish the way they all sing and then there is little solos love Spring Awakening believe me its always Wendla over rachel and Melchoir over jesse but it makes me think of glee

I don't think these people get enough credit. I mean today people like Miley Cyrus are so popular, and seriously if she had to sing with the cast of Spring Awakening she would probably sound like a dying duck. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against Miley Cyrus it's just that this cast is so talented and they go so unnoticed. Don't you agree that names like John Gallagher Jr and Remy Zaken should be famous too?

@colddeepbasements True...they do it for most of the songs they perform out of the musical. The metaphors in the original versions are replaced with a much simpler set of words.

@colddeepbasements These are the lyrics that have been in the show since it opened on Broadway. If you're confused because it's not the lyrics on the cast recording, the cast recording is outdated on lyrics/arrangements to a few different songs as it was presumably recorded before they finished doing revisions. I don't think it's supposed to be dumbed down or anything, this is just what Steven Sater liked better for whatever reason. Hope that helps? :)

I've never seen the old lyrics used by an actual production (not counting like, Duncan Sheik) since then, including every time I saw it myself, so I don't think I'm mistaken? These are the lyrics listed in In the Flesh, too, so.

It doesn't really matter though. I just prefer the old lyrics. I was so used to them because of the show and because I also had the cd because I loved the show so much. But I plan on seeing it in March so I guess I will get to see it then.

On broadway this show was so epic. In particluar this song..
Loved the blocking...and sitting close hearing them un-miked was awesome.
I guess i will have to wait until somebody revives it on Broadway in 20 years :(
