I am reading the Washington Post 6/11/09 article "For the Piano Man of Baghdad, What Will Be, Will Be" about Christopher Garabedian, the Piano Man of Bagdhad. A longtime fan, Najat Mashkouri said, "His music makes you forget where you are." A familiar theme--music transcends time, place, and shattered lives. A continued thread in the relevance of the Kulturbund story.
I was saddened by this news today and thank you for sharing your profound message. I hope with continued interest and support the plan to tell the bigger story of the Kulturbund will be realized.
Given what happened today, June 10, 2009, when an 88 year-old man opened fire at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, true stories of the Holocaust need very much to be told. Imagine: 88 and still denying, still hating enough to kill. And to choose that venue to vent his hate. The Kulturbund is not common knowledge. It should be. Tell the story with the sensitivity you show in this clip.
It would be great! On so many levels this story seems to resonate in regards to what is happening in the world. I'd love to hear what other people have to say in this regard.
Wow, it almost seems like Obama had Nathan the Wise in mind when he gave his speech in Cairo. He called for Jerusalem to be a secure place for Jews, Christians and Muslims, just like in the story. Wouldn't it be great to show him the completed documentary?
