  • Kim Salmon and The Surrealists do an excellent version too

  • sounds like radiohead but good

  • @armpits17 Newfags, newfags everywhere...

  • For a new twist on the mysterious beauty of this, listen to The Iveys (Badfinger) 'Water Lily' by Tommy Evan, which actually predated this gem by about 7 years, I think. Both are haunting enough to shiver your timbers.

  • omg such great lyrics! maybe placebo made a better version (especially for the music), but the writer must have been very very talented

  • please do not hate me for loving This Mortal Coil's version more....

  • @teargarden What a newfag...

  • Words cannot describe the emotional impact this song has. This Mortal Coil cover is equally as heart wrenching.

  • is it possible the Killers was inlfuenced by this.. ? sure it is but what do you think?

  • I'm in love...

  • brilliant misery - forget all the chancers - this is chilton

  • Something about this time of year really fucks me up when I hear this song. It just captures my feelings perfectly.

  • Treasures of the world. . .

  • a beautiful heart-wrenching song..

  • Grande Alex Chilton! Esteja em paz!

  • out of all the covers done by This Mortal Coil this may be my favorite.

  • @psylowade LOL.

  • Grab the audio from this vid at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • When I was a teenager, I played Type O Negative to my Dad to show how gloomy I could be. He played this song and humbled me. What a gorgeous song.

  • explain this isolation as one is ready to move foward....

love you Alex....you knew what a fucking lame bizness this can be

  • he could do so many things, thank you alex chilton for evrything and more...

  • The most beutifull song about depression?

  • i think placebo's cover is more than a worthy tribute

the lyrics of this song is pure poëtry

  • After hearing this, I can no longer allow Lady Gaga to be played within my earshot.

  • @saikanonojutsu fuck off for even mentioning lady gaga - not because i dislike her, but because it's just a cheesy way to score taste points, like any other baby fashion hipster who can't help but mention her / beiber on "acceptable" music vids.

  • @DougglesMagnificent

Lady Gaga is just a very bad copy of Madonna. Hmm ... i think Madonna is not considered a great artist ...

Latest funny thing about LG is her extremely heavy metal tradition.

  • @DougglesMagnificent - Exactly! Besides, she's far more subculturally inclined than Chilton ever was. He just wanted to make pop music, this record sounds the way it does because he was off his head on drugs and didn't give a fuck anymore, not because he's avant-garde. Drop me a line when "Judas" becomes the theme to a nostalgic sitcom.

  • @saikanonojutsu How could you ever before this?? :) Thanks for posting this, hamsaouahamsine. I don't own the Third/Sisters Lovers album unfortunately. Sounds great! I already love #1 Record and Radio City (the latter especially). Great band.

  • @wildsmiley You should get it. But it has a different vibe than the other two.

    A Handy Guide:

    #1 Record= beer and marijuana

    Radio City= wine and valium

    Third/Sister Lovers= liquor and heroin

  • @APerfectAss Superb observation. Wow! The third record sounds like its drenchced in opiates.

  • @bmgfl

I wouldn't rule out cough syrup abuse, either. This song has "Robitussin" written all over it. With a chaser of Terpin Hydrate. On top of the daily use of opiates!

  • retirado de "3rd"...devia ser "obrigatorio" ouvir este album

  • This could be blasphemy to big star fans, but I much prefer the placebo cover. Grand song nevertheless.

  • Ultimate song.

  • Yoko Ono - Mrs Lennon.

  • MAN WE SURE LOVE AND ALREADY MISS ALEX......I looked up cool, and right there man was The Box Top's and Big Star's front man William Alexander Chilton's picture.....rest in peace my friend......maybe we can jam on the night shift when I get up there maestro.....two hearts are better than one.....BUT hey, we won't need old dusty hearts any ol' way..........just a little bit a soul baby.
