thank you so much for this video! I remember hearing it so much so often while there it totally encapsulates the Amsterdam experience. its what keeps nudging you awake in the morning telling you you cant sleep in bed all day, when you stop hearing it at night you know its time to hit the bars. it kinda made me sad too though cause it made me think of the hookers in all the windows and made me wonder what they think about when they are listening to these bells every day, day after day

I enjoy laying in my bed in the Red Man Room at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel and listening for the bells in the morning hours after waking up. There's something comforting about that.

I like hearing the church bells of oude kerk, it brings me back in memory. I like the fact that it's original, it's not a regular melody, it doesn't follow a steady rythm, it's just random sounds. Can't wait to get there, 29 days and counting !

i walked down this very same street a few times but never heard the bells

It happens at the top of the hour. It is the bells from the Old Church (Oude Kerk) which is right in the middle of the Red Light District.

the bell tower is in restoration now, the bells are only played every Saturday from 4 to 5 pm.
