fuck man, MJ wasn't afraid to go for the steal, and both teams played hard. Today everytime you go for a steal it's always a reach-in foul for some reason :P
@balla4life215 this would be top 3 on Kobe's greatest playoff highlights. its buried back somewhere in the #30's for Jordan. btw nice job Black Samba against the old balls Spurs tonight.
now the game is about staying under control and knowing what your doing instead of trying to pin the ball handler down like a fuckin wrestler, also its not jus defense where the fouls are called more, its offense too, so the validity of the hardcore style of play has nothing to do with it, you wanna beat your man be faster you wanna post em up work on your footwork, yall are mad because the game is smarter, not softer
The Knicks were a POWERHOUSE back in the 90s. And their rivalry with teams like Bulls or Pacers was INTENSE. Any of those teams would STORM today's NBA. As would the 90s Rockets, Jazz, Suns, Pistons... Today's NBA is weak. The rules are getting worse and worse. Don't you understand it Stern? It was the physical play that ignited the rivalries, that made the teams give their best and it was above all a MAN'S LEAGUE. Don't try to make the NBA look like WNBA.
im so happy that i saw michael jordan plays on the court... its my teenage days...im imagining if there will be a next MJ in this era... probably not.. thanks MJ... ur airness!!!!
2:06 sick ass hang time to let out a shot like that and it was a fuckin dagger baby...knicks still won this game but it was down to the wire man...to bad Ewing hit that fuckin shot to go up and win it...was hoping chicago woulda pulled it out in that gm but they were without kukoc that day
knicks won in OT...it was the bulls 1st loss in the post season but they went on to beat the knicks in 5 games they only lost 2 more games in the finals and thats it
everybody knows the Bulls lost this game because Toni Kukoc was out with an injury that happened during practice before game 3. or else the Bulls would have swept their way to the finals in the '96 playoffs seeing as this was their only loss before the finals. just like the '01 Lakers swept their way to the finals.
@frusionnn You're right about that. The Bulls did'nt have that big explosive punch coming off the bench for them in this game, and still nearly won it. MJ and the Bulls were amazing, and as you can see here, they were never out of any game and they made up deficits really fast. But yeah, if Kukoc did not miss this game, the Knicks would have been swept as opposed to getting taken out in 5 games.
@frusionnn This why MJ is the GOAT, this man never quited, no matter what. The Bulls made have lost this game, but they never gave up being down 13 points late in the 4th quarter.
bridogg23, stern took over in the early 90's, some of the best basketball every played was during sterns first 10 years as commish, i think the reason the nba is softer and less exciting nowadays is becuz the players are exactly that, soft and boring. im speaking generally also, of course there are a few good stars today, but nothing like 15 years ago.
I have to agree with the notion that Stern ruined the game. In the 90's teams werent afraid to play rough. You could hand check on the guards and the physical style of gameplay was real basketball with real rivalries. Not this crap now days where ABC and ESPN try and make the current day Lakers and Celtics the same type of rivalry that those two teams were in the 80's. Its all a ratings game rather than the authenticity of the game. It is very sad
Tres jugadas exactamente calcadas.

Pat Riley nearly killed the NBA with his basketbrawl style.. good thing choking Pat Ewing could never deliver a title or that style might've caught on
i rather watch that style then watch the referees call fouls every 10 seconds in todays offensively oriented league. your not allowed to guard players today.
I think the better way is somewhere in between.. not like it is today where every little touch is a foul but also not like then when you could just junk up the game by grabbing, holding, and pushing. I do NOT want to see winning scores in the 70s and low 80s anymore
well i disagree. i enjoyed the physical era of the 80's and 90's. there were plenty of teams that averaged 90+ points during the 80's and 90's.you actually had to have talent and skill to score then .what david stern has done is handicap the defenses today for higher scoring games kinda like steroiding up the game. he did this for ratings. there is alot less skill involved in scoring. someone who doesnt want to see games in the 70's or 80's anymore doesnt appreciate the game.
That's cool.. I watch sports to be entertained.. it wasn't entertaining to me to watch the Knicks play basketbrawl. When the game was REALLY great in the mid 80s teams would score in the 110s in regulation and it was entertaining. Guys would get physical and fight and it wasn't even a big deal... stuff that you would get suspended for now. Sorry but I stand by what I said.. nobody wants to watch NBA games that are 79-73.. it's not good basketball
well ur the reason why david stern changed all the rules.fans like u with small minds who like alot of points who dont appreciate the strategy of defense. Now u got ur style of basketball where your not allowed to defend. stern has made every rule change to increase the speed and scoring of the game when all he really did was lower the quality of the game.
Small minds? LOL.. dude I think you need to get over yourself a little bit. If you want 79-73 watch the WNBA. Lots of those games. It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other. It doesn't have to be everything is foul or nothing is a foul. There is a middle ground.
This game slips my mind for some reason. Possibly I blocked it out because the Knicks won. (i don't remember for sure) The first shot looked like sheer determination; the second says I will not allow you to beat me. I do think that was a strong attribute, his will to never allow the opposition to think they had a chance when he had the ball.
CHICAGO vs. NEW YORK CITY. It's only fitting that these 2 cities had wonderful teams to represent each city. And there is nothing like CHICAGO sticking it to NEW YORK. One more thing, JORDAN was simply amazing. HOLY CRAP with that three pointer to tie the game!!
Look how quickly he gets from near the top of the key to the dunk at the very beginning. Insane. No one in the league today can go from point A to point B faster than that. And he was 33 years old here lol.
It's incredibly annoying having to shift through the outright arrogance/ignorant statements made by kids on this site. On one hand, you feel silly for arguing with dumb ass kids. But on the other hand, how many arrogant-ignorant statements can REAL fans sit back & take before you simply have to "call them out" on it? Kids these days are too often allowed to revel in their own stupidity. That's why you "have" to chin check 'em everytime they get out of line with bold, dumb ass statements..
What annoyed me is that this moron admitted he was a kid around this time and didn't understand what was going on. But he has the nerve to make statements, how the Bulls didn't deserve to win. You can't look back on things 11-14 years later and then pretend to know what actually happened. This series wasn't close and during the regular season they blew out the Knicks twice (once at home and once on the road). More talented? The dude has the judgement of a squirrel.
I feel ya man. And the thing that really annoys me, is when they resort to name calling because they can't answer the tough questions & need a quick exit out of the conversation. I guess that's their defense against being exposed as a "fanboy" rather than an astute student of the game.
The Knicks won this game in overtime! I remember watchin this game like it was yestreday..it was a matinaee game...Unfortunatly that was NY's only win of the series.. :(

Game 4 was another Jordan special; that is, a screwjob by Stern's refs in (are there any doubts) Jordan's favor.
The Starks traveling call on the game winning three is an example of the NBA making the ridiculously repugnant typical.
Sadly, the 90s were still a far better time for pure basketball than now. All the Dream Teamers retiring honestly nuked the league.
