hello i have a 20inch daewoo tv and while watchin a tv show the television went off and has not come on ever since not even the standby light is on, but i keep hearin a ticking sound coming from inside the tv
I got a problem with my Samsung 46inch, it's darkish half way & there's a green like line on the left abt an inch or centimetre thick (same side as dark side) goin up the side of the screen. U can stil see picture, whts wrong with it? Please help
I have A 50" panasonic projection HD TV that is not working any moore. At first when I would turn it on the power button would just blink. I'd have to unplug and plug it up a few times before it would come on. As time went on this problem got worse and so did the color quility of the picture colors bleeding and out of focus. Please tell me what could be the problem,it is an older TV so if it's going to be expensive I'd rather not even try to fix it.
@IRENENA60 It sounds like the tubes are going bad along with other issues.. It might be a set of ICs that control the convergence might be bad. Try to upload a video of it so I can see whats going on to better assist you
I have actually been shocked by a pinhole in the anode boot. So my philosophy is if you don't understand it don't mess with it. Rf burns from high voltage hurt. and the voltage gives quit a kick. That also applies to modern tv's that use gas discharge technology or backlights.
also i would like to request you to keep the camera in such a place that the whole circuit board and the process of repairing and in which part is to be repaired is visible
I have never seen any tech discharge a picture tube like that...and I don't recommend you do because you might damage something. Just slip a screwdriver under the cap and then use a wire cord with clips on each end and touch one end to the screwdriver and the other end to the silver ground strap on the pic tube.
In the old days we would discharge the tube to the metal chassis of the tv, but that was back in the 1960's when we had tube sets. I'm 61 years old and have been doing this for awhile.
I have a tv that was struck by lightning. What would that more then likely affect on the tv? I've tested the power supply area and everything seems to be working there. Please help If you can
@CrackKillzWeedHealz Any electronic item struck by lightning can be difficult to repair. IC chips and other parts are so sensitive that once hit by lightning your TV may no longer be repairable. Not much I can do to help, sorry since these damages usually cost more to replar then the TV is worth.
when you checked the transistor what setting did you use (on your volt meter) ? And how did you check it ? Pos to Drain ? Neg to Gate ? Or was it just set at continuity ? And can Transistor be checked with just continuity ?
dude the only way to be sure that the transistor is good is to take it out then check it because sometimes it is parallel with an inductor or transformer that would make it appear bad
Some things I'd like to add, a severely trapezium shaped picture can also be a sign of a bad deflection yoke, and as you said if you replace the yoke on a CRT it might be impossible to get the convergence right.
Also, I don't particularly endorse your method of discharging the CRT using the neutral on the plug, mainly because relatively modern CRTs (mid 90s) have an isolated chassis, thus no connection between CRT ground and AC ground. Older TVs and non-US TVs might not have a polarized plug.
@TrueBlueAustralian Then you will see fireworks! I knew someone who used a twisty tie and they blew out the entire power supply. I recommend not using foil as further damage will result. These tips must remain serious and proper safety devices used to prvent shock or fire hazzard. Safety is no JOKE!!!!!
Ohms show continuity. 0 ohms = no continuity. A fuse is not a diode. electricity can flow either way thru a fuse.

hmmm, I really wish I looked up what the wide part of an American plug means for British plugs :(

Chris, when checking fuses or other shorts, the term used is 'continuity', not diode check.

@chrisstv1979 using the diode check is a quick & easy way to test fuses and those large white resistors.
I find those large wattage resistors usually go open. This is the way I do it when I'm on a housecall it saves you time. Good. video.

@hannobisschoff1 Actually some multimeter's have both continuity and diode checking on the same location on the mode selection dial.
