  • So what if I have an AMD proccesor?

  • Looks cool!!!!!

Linux is starting to be used everywhere

Phones, embedded devices, computers, pads, servers and lots more,

Help this revolution now, use Linux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Rpim1 im pretty sure that linux has been used in servers for quite along time

  • i put my usb put install only it installs and when i try to boot up it gets stuck on the startup screen, it only says moblin, any ideas?

  • @naviblue56 do you have an Intel Atom Processor?

If yes, just try MeeGo, that's "the newer Version of Moblin";)

  • Judi Dench

  • OMG British Accent

  • how can i create a image on my usb device to use moblin ?

  • @ReinkarnationX16 with UNetbootin;)

    google is your friend

  • @LikeLinux thx sry im new at linux

  • @ReinkarnationX16 ok already

if you have a netbook, I would suggest you better ubuntu

ubuntu netbook remix or if the desktop version does not matter, but it runs better

and moblin os is no longer supported

Meego is the successor of Moblin;)

    ubuntu.com

    meego.com

  • @LikeLinux im using right now my netbook with ubuntu netbook remix with the desktop version. Thanks so you mean meggro will be supported?

    sry for my bad english

  • Netbook & Tablets - Moblin (MeeGo when finished)

    Laptops & Desktops - Ubuntu/Fedora

    Windows is dieing!

    Linux is evolving

    OS X is Basic

  • hahaha "moblin os is the nut"

  • who made the publicitary video?

  • It's still in beta. If you download it now and hate it, try it again when it comes out. Or, alternatively, wait to download it.

  • @theCamelCase no its final check the website

  • @coster18 Yep, didn't notice. Thanks.

  • I see no reason for switching from Kubuntu 10.04 (Which runs extremely fine) to Moblin...

  • is it possible to get icq for moblin?

  • @TriplesevenER yes, i had moblin 2.1 final

you have the Empathy messenger, so you can choice what social network you need

    it incloudes also ICQ

  • I have tried Moblin on numerous occasions. I couldn't get on with it even though it looks great. As the netbook market has matured it is becoming obvious that people don't want an all in one operating system, this is represented by the addition of the "Garage" they added recently. Installing third party apps does not integrate well with the Moblin UI and having workspaces for every task or application becomes tiresome. Great idea and looks amazing but it just doesn't cut it for me.

  • I got 3 users on my computer, dose this netbook only change for me? Because I dont wants the other users to be changed

  • @Raond11 its an operating system, your exisiting windows will be gone and replaced by Moblin

  • The BEST thing about this is that it doesn't look ugly ;-) Nice job on the interface....

  • aaaaand...ITS LINUX W00T!

ive been using ubuntu over the past several weeks, trying out ubuntu netbook remix, ubuntu 9.10, kubuntu, all on my netbook...now i cant imagine going back to windows on my netbook,

however, linux can be VERY frustrating to work with on a desktop if you use multiple displays, function as a server for other computers that are windows, etc....but on portable devices, linux is king...i will be using moblin when its done installing XD

  • I'd love to do the same - how are the applications - any apps available to keep my computer alive?

  • ubuntu has more apps than moblin. linux is open source, anyone can take it and run with the ball and release whatever they want to, as they see fit...ubuntu is the most popular so far, and its a replica of windows but with cooler animations and less to do with cost....its free, the programs are free, its just people having fun....ubuntu has an = program for anything youve had on windows...winamp, fruity loops, MS word, anything you can think of has a ubuntu = program for free....try it!

  • Ohhh, I am using multiple displays on my Ubuntu powered desktop and it works smooth here. I am using an Nvdia card with it's official drivers.

  • It looks great :)

It' s based on fedora, isn't it?

  • calender?

  • Have some problems on my Packard Bell DotS...

  • i just installed it in my Sony Vaio w, works like a charm! I always loved linux but i never thought it could be so user-friendly. I guess even my dog could use it xD

  • Looks like google chrome OS

    The future is open !

  • I find this better looking than Chrome OS, Chrome OS Is literally just a browser, not really for me, but might do for some :)

  • not just Free meaning no cost, also Free meaning Freedom.

The OS is Free. but the Netbook not. lol

  • Let's not forget all those proprietary binary blobs in the kernel. Linux is only as free as you make it.

  • It's FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Is it free?

  • Yes,

  • @daiolw1 i know what you mean i hella love the voice to, it made me watch the video twice x]

  • did she say "automagic"?

  • XD OOh hell yeah

  • does this mean I can install moblin on any Mac or WIn laptops? and if yes how do I do this?

  • I used the live CD to try it out, looks great and its really perfect for netbooks. (of course its specifically designed for netbooks)... but one thing I can't figure out... where are the folders... or how can you make your own folders, to save stuff in. I can't find it? Anyone any idea? Thanks.

  • this looks great, seems more intuitive to work with than mac OSX and a million times better than any Windows version for netbooks.

I hope Googles chrome OS will be allot like this.

  • I was under the impression the Google OS would be a simple desktop with Chrome "application shortcuts." Ultimately, running all your applications in the cloud on one browser should be much more optimized than this.

  • it's pretty cool.

  • Moblin

    Ubuntu Mobile

    Jolicloud

  • i use intel CPU But not a atom

    can i use moblin?

  • yes you can..i use celeron e1200 with intel g31 chipset and moblin works just fine!

  • you can use it even if you don't use an atom processor..

so long as you ALSO use intel graphics.. if you use anything but the intel chipset for graphics, it'll be so slow and choppy, you're gonna wanna kill yourself

  • yes.

  • i dont think so

  • I'm not sure what the arguing is about. It's pronounced Mobe-lin. There's no other way to say it.

  • I have to say it is pronounced Mo-blin

    I.P.A: məʊblɪn

  • It's pronounced MOBE-LIN because of the root of the portmanteau, MOBILE + LINUX. Do you pronounce Mobile, "MOBB-L"? No, you pronounce it "MOBE-L", so you pronounce MOBLIN, MOBE-LIN, retards in here. Let me repeat MOBE-LIN. This is just like idiots who call Ubuntu, "UBANTOO", it's OOBOONTOO, numbnuts.

  • It's not someone's fault... English orthography is a mess.

I think the intended pronounce is like goblin :D

  • Errr Who the HELL would say Mobe-lin (see

    scottishwildcat comment 2)

    Maybe only the jocks

    everyone says Mob-lin...

  • Yes, this is a beta only, and it is pretty interesting for us who like to have a fast, stabile and user friendly state of the art OS on ours netbook.

Keep on the good work Intel and many others :)

Don't get stucked in windows - people deserve something better :)

  • Only a marketing department could insist that "Moblin" should be pronounced "Mob-lin", rather than the way almost everyone else is going to pronounce it anyway ("mobe-lin")...

  • Run from the marketing gobe-lins! :P

  • WHAT? only you say MOBE-lin. Who the hell says Mobe-lin? is that a Scottish accent thing?

  • Nope. I haven't lived in Scotland for years, but I still don't know anyone who wouldn't naturally pronounce it "mob-lin".

Surely it's from the same root as 'mobile' and 'mobility', which even my American dictionary says are pronounced "moe-bile" (or moe-ble) and "moe-bility", not "mobble" and "mob-ility".

  • how do you say Goblin then Gobe-lin?

  • Most of the people in the world have yet to own a computer. This OS would seem to be the ideal engine to drive netbook adoption in that vast untapped market.

  • I find extremely lovely the woman's voice. Where is that accent from?

  • She is British :), her voice is very familiar with 007 James Bond's M, (Judi Dench)

  • She doesn't have any accent, as she speaks a proper British English :) accent is predominantly the feature of those guys from over the pond :)

  • Good to see a Linux OS that actually looks straightforward and aimed at normal people. I put Mandriva on my mum's laptop, but it took me forever Googling to find what config file I had to edit to disable the trackpad tap! I want an alternative to Windows that doesn't require me to trawl through mailing lists to find basic stuff like that

  • I feel your pain mate.

I think moblin is what we need in the netbook space though with it's very simple features, small footprint and great boot up time.

We've seen a few operating systems loaded on netbooks that werent created with netbooks in mind and the end result hasn't been a good one.

Moblin though is a good step in the right direction and I'm very excited for it's prospects.

Kudos to Intel for putting some muscle behind this project.

  • i bet linus torvalds is having nightmares about this..

    I know i would.

  • why? it is linux so he actually wrote code for it.

  • Well technically, he only wrote the linux kernel, the window manager and Desktop Environment were written by intel....

  • I kinda fell in love with the song, anyone able to get that without the voice?

  • I kinda fell in love with the voice.

  • I like the voice because it sounds so explainitive

  • reminds me of Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy in a female version

  • im more windows, mac and ubuntu fan. Windows because of games that dont work with others(its changing i know). Macs. ADOBE runs faster. Ubuntu the basic of sharing and beeng able to reed the source code. write your own programs and feeling usefull in helping with something.

  • Does this linux distro work for desktop station use? Forexample using Eclipse IDE and installing apache2 ?

  • "Does this linux distro work for desktop station use? Forexample using Eclipse IDE and installing apache2 ?"

I would certainly not recommend this distro for desktop use. It failed miserably for me when testing it on an Atom CPU powered netbook, Moblin's intended use.

  • But what did it fail with? I know their beta status on the OS should be alpha instead, because it has so many buggs and stuff like that.

I have moblin installed on my virtualbox but it is too slow and laggy, (and may be because of the GPU drivers?).

However it seems to work for desktop use too but this isn't their priority ofc. But I would like to see this for desktop use really soon, the interface and the bootspeed looks promising.

  • so.... I can't use it on other CPUs?

  • I never understand why they don't mention its linux in the clip... something like "Moblin is a new OS based on Linux" or something like that... give some credit at least to linux.

  • Unfortunately, people have a stigma about Linux. Plus, whether you're already familiar with a more 'traditional' Linux running GNOME or KDE, or familiar with Windows or Mac OS X, you're not going to feel any more at home in Moblin.

It runs Linux under the hood, but that's pretty much about it. An average Joe probably wouldn't be able to tell Moblin and Ubuntu are running on the same kernel, so why make it a marketing point?

  • To me Moblin Sounds & looks good, because it looks really simple & I for one are open to anything new. & Before anyone says anything I already own macs & windows pc's & a lot of linux Boxes that I built myself. This looks promising for a netbook because it will be easy & to the point to use & a netbook is perfect for that & that is (Quick/Easy/No having to dig for anything because it is in your face). I like anything that fights the masses because the same old anything is always the problem.

  • I can see this becoming more powerful for embedded device, although might be a good intro for linux on PC for the everyday average Joe.

  • It's because you are unable to see what it can become.

  • You don't know how much you are wrong.

It's not another Operational System, It's still Linux. The same good Linux.

I used Moblin 2 beta in a virtual machine, and the system doesn't get in your way all the time like Windows does. The only problem I had was with 3D accelleration (VirtualBox doesn't support it very well).

It's fking fast, it uses very well the small screen space, It comes with softwares and fuctions* that people would normally use with such low end hardware.

  • Moblin is quite good for NETBOOKS.

    * Many things are integrated to the taskbar, like the web browsing for example.

    FKING EASY TO USE!!!!!

  • mac os x doesnt get in your way like windows does either. and it is much easier to transition from windows to a mac for a person who only cares about what theyre doing and doesnt want headaches and who also wants great and fast customer service from one source. again, moblin offers nothing new to the computing world, just something else to look at. they admit it themselves: "moblin is a completely new computing experience"...it's nothing more than that. and macs are most energy efficient.

  • Wrong with new operating systems comes new ideas. So you are saying new ideas are bad because you are unable to understand them. As I said this should dominate the embedded devices which I hope they choice to go for.

  • no i am able to understand it. i just said it is confusing, not that i did not comprehend. and i maintain that adjusting to something should be for a purpose, and there is no purpose because this operating system offers nothing new. it offers nothing a mac cant for pc refugees.

  • this is the nuts!!

  • Not impressed. Tried on a Acer One which is supposed to be completely supported,

Sound recorder does not work just gives loud pops.

Intro splash screen is supposed to show a Youtube Moblin intro video, this does not play as no Flash is installed, no obvious way to install Flash.

Quite a few segmentation fault crashes while Moblin was running.

Messengering thing is useless, no Skype.

No thanks we will be sticking with Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which works perfectly on same Acer One netbook.

  • Do you actually know what BETA means?

  • Very cool. Linux everyday more userfriendly.

  • I think it would be eventually.

But from my experience of trying it, Mobiin is far to buggy at the moment. I know it's beta software, but it still seems incredibly buggy for a beta release.

Various Linux distros have been running perfectly on netbooks for over a year now.

Currently using Ubuntu Remix on my Acer One, easy to use, everything works, and its very reliable.

  • looks really cool =]

  • looks cool but didnt boot on my amilo mini! on startup i see dots..........

  • looks cool

  • Why, this Molbin OS is "the nuts."

  • can i run this on my dell inspiron 9300 if it's not a netbook? It has an intel processor, but not an atom? I tried installing it, but got an error message when it was loading the code on the black screen with white text? Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I installed ubuntu on it, and tried installing moblin on top of it, but still no luck :\

  • I think NetBookOS's are a good idea, but just from the video, this seems too child like, I got my sis (9yo) a cheap Asus, withAsus's Linux on it, it's for kids, and this reminded me of that. user friendly going into child like. Linux has been a geeky nightmare for years,

    cont..

  • I have Moblin loaded on a netbook and it is not for children. Moblin integrates social networking into the UI. It is graphical and very cool.

Nobody accuses Apple's simple interface as a target for kids. I would call it elegant.

Maybe the music makes it sound kid-like :-)

  • Hi Troub!

yeah I have never tried it, and you know, as you have expiriance with this OS :)

the problem i had with Asus Linux was there was no way to add new devices, my sis doesn't have the internet in the house, so I tried to hookup her mobile phone to the Asus.

it didn't have anyway to do this (that I could find)?!?. so if Moblin has a device manager/protocol for new devices, its already a step ahead :)

    cont...

  • @Apple: your right Apple is not just for kids but for everybody (althougth I have never tried a mac, i am aware of the respect it gets) they have YEARS of expriance. new Linux distros sometimes go through a learning proccess, but if the can learn the lessons of other Linux distros Ubuntu, Solaris and even now, Mac, (switched to Linux last year) this can be a cool OS.

  • cont.. installations can be emotionally destructive guh! but this seems too far the other way. and the Asus was designedfor kids (not the eee). user friendly but WITHthe option for sophistication. the Linux kernal is powerful and can change the world. now if they could just get the interface right...

  • does someone know where I can find a VMware Player Image, to test Moblin in VMware Player, instead of installing it on my harddrive?

  • Doesn't work very well in vmware as the hardware vmware presents to moblin is not supported. You write the moblin image to a usb key and boot from it. I'd you don't have a netbook, any centrino laptop will work. However the graphics will work properly only on centrino laptop which uses intel graphics.

    My work laptop worked great!

  • So in short, an OS for netbooks?

  • it's just another linux distro for netbooks.

  • What is a net book? Can I use this on any system?

  • Net book is a broad term for small laptop computers with just enough power to browse the internet and other basic tasks. For example, the Asus "eee."

  • no, this is specifically for netbooks with Atom processors. It does work on other Intel processors.

Since this is an open source project, other manufacturers can change the code for their platforms.

  • really cool ... when they will do a version for ARM...lol

  • love netbooks especially the asus n10j

  • Netbooks just got interesting...

  • love it!!!!

    cutie!!

  • you might not like what you see.

  • What's the song?

  • BETA? Alpha DAWG.....

  • calender

  • This look really cool and really easy to use. Can you run games on this?

  • Why would you play games on a Netbook?

  • Why would you play games on a PSP, with much less CPU/RAM?

    Zing! Portability!

  • but PSP games are made for a PSP... and the PSP is made for gaming. It would work...just be kinda cumbersome.

  • Well it will run Linux games, and it does come with Frozen Bubble, Neverputt and Neverball.

If it's Crysis Warhead you're after? Then no. ;)

  • You can run some windows games with Wine. HL2, counter strike and some older games. You can't play newer games on a netbook anyway.

  • im going to try this out on my moms netbook

  • 0:25 Calendar fail?

  • hah

    good catch

  • wow great professional video for a linux distro. I wish canonical would do some video's like this for ubuntu.

  • did the professional video i just saw here just type on the status "new OS moblin is the nuts" lol

  • I love it! the UI looks fantastic.

  • Just tried Moblin 2.0 on my netbook (HP Mini 10 with 32GB SD Hardisk). My netbook now boots in 4 seconds, it blew me away the first time, I thought, this cant be right there must be something still happening, nope all booted and ready to rip.

  • Jesus christ... that powns Windows 7 :D

  • WOW !!! Linux is back on Netbooks .. and they say we don't innovate

  • Awesome! I was wondering when they would popup with moblin. It looks fantastic!

  • neato

  • Very nice! Love the music.

  • Yeah I totally agree! Anyone got an artist? It sort of seems like a more down tempo version of The Books.

  • This looks really slick
