  • Elvis Loved this guy!

  • My favorite song by the king of rockabilly. Amazing production technique with horn arrangement that mimicks a steel guitar. Jerry Fuller penned this simple but haunting song along with another RN classic Travelin Man and his formula was spot on; this is arrangement and production at it's finest. And then there is Rick Nelson, perhaps the most straight-on singer ever, that leaves his cover-singers sounding downright foolish.

  • Ricky Nelson and the Everly Brothers, my two favorites growing up in the 50,s and 60,s

  • This is my favorite of all his songs, he was such a part of my youth and his music will never be forgotten by so many of our generation. I only wish he would have lived longer and made more music.

  • RICKY.. LOVE HIM! He had a great voice and a very beautiful facee! :)

  • The great bass player Phil Chen worked with James Burton, Ricky and Elvis!!! How's that for amazing !!

    cheers sammy x o

  • Saw Rick in Dallas at the Olla Padria and old club now torn down. I grewe up just down the street from James Burton and remember when he quit working for Rick and came home.

  • sexy

  • What a lovely song...loved.!

Thanks my dear Kathy for the great sharing....Wenhsing*hugs*

  • When I arrived at George AFB in Victorville, CA. on 1/9/1982, I saw that Rick Nelson was performing that weekend at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds. Not having bought a car + not being familiar with the area, I didn't realize the San Bernardino Fairgrounds was right in Victorville about 7 miles from the base. Had I known, I would have found a way to get in town and see him. He always seemed to be playing somewhere in the local area. Finally saw him in Vegas in Jan. of 1985. Great show!!!

  • @August8th1969 This is the first time I've seen Victorville mentioned. We moved from Santa Clara, CA to Apple Valley in 1956 and I graduated from Victor Valley High in 1962. I knew quite a few guys stationed at George A F B including several musicians. Some pretty fair pool shooters too! By the way, my little brother saw Ricky perform at the S. B. County Fair not long before he was killed. Take care.

  • @fairlyfastfreddie1 Hey there! born and raised in the high desert.St.mary's 1963,grew up in victorville till 15 yrs old then moved to Applevalley.Graduateed from VV high in 1981.48 years old and still here! You abviously graduated with my aunts and uncles :)

  • Geeeez, James Burton and that Fender Telecaster just made Rick's music all that much better...............

  • If you were born in the same era that I was (1947) then you too were so fortunate to have watched & listened to this great great singer. When Ricky was killed, on December 31,1985 I made a large sign for the back window of my car. It read, "Ricky ~ We'll Miss You."

  • In the 1960's Rick actually teamed up with several popular female singers including Joanne Summers, the voice behind all the 60's Pepsi commercials.

  • He had such tempting luscious lips...and bedroom eyes...wow

  • I wish I met a guy who looked like him..

  • Rick was every guy's idol in the early 1960's. He had it all.

  • It's okay guys, I passed my GCSEs in the end!

  • Bust music ever !! And the coverversion from Dick Brave is nearly as good as the original !!

  • Bob Newhart is the drummer

  • I watched the Nelson's when they were on TV back in the late '50's.Ricky Nelson and the great James Burton on guitar.Doesn't get any better than that!!!!

  • remember dancing to this!!

  • It was "my" song, when I was a young boy. Thanks Ricky.

  • Awesome! Love this guy!! One of the best!

  • I love this song very much.. Favorite background guitarist and Rick's style and easy way is truly missed by all of us that are still his fans!!

It's up to you.. to love this kind of music.. Incredible sound of the 60s..

  • Does anyone else see how much Chris Evans looks like him?

  • I should have married this man, I just know it I was born too late x

  • just recently heard an interview with rick's guitarist james burton..seen to rick's left and he's still pretty active in the biz.....thx for this upload....jeff

  • Rickey made so many great songs, still love them today. Dig those 50's hair styles.

  • @69ssrszl1

Hi - so glad he sang so many of his songs and interpreting other songs too. LOVE his easy way and

cool style.. I was so saddened by the lost of the last Nelson - David.. because they are gone.. I feel they were part of my family.. At least they are together in heaven.. and smiling.. RIP the entire Nelson family.

  • @castalia60able Some of you guys need to gargle with saniflush.

  • @dibilitated - hey - I never said that you jerk!

  • The best shows were when Ricky sang....made my little preteen heart go pitter-pat. I always liked that guitar player in the back, when I learned his name I never forgot it. James Burton, you're the man.

  • Ozzie Nelson had to put up an electric fence around their property to keep the young girls out.

  • @stevemichaels2020 Like Jurassic Park, I'm sure nature found a way!

  • Wouldn't you just love to sit down with Tracy (Nelson), who was born just 6 months after this recording was released, just to tell her what a very special person, and artist, her father was. Have you ever looked into her eyes? When I see those blue blue eyes of hers, it is as though Ricky himself were standing in front of you. By 1962 I had every album that Ricky Nelson had released and when he was killed on December 31, 1985 a bit of me died with him. You were the best Ricky!

  • Ricky Nelson still moves me and I grew up in the sixties. He defined Cool for our generation along with James Dean. Period. End of story.

    THanks for posting this

  • I saw him right before he died. He was soooo cute!!!

  • OMG he was so gorgeous. No wonder i was totally in love with him back there in the last century! I even went to his concerts, full of screamers, including me. Never missed the tv show either.

  • He was the best and I never missed this show on TV.. Ozzie and Harriet. I lived to watch it back then. I saw him in concert when I was 16 and he was about the same age, at the Carter-Barron Outdoor Theater. What a memory. It was a real heart-breaker when he died that New Years. It is great to see these videos and hear him sing once more.

  • Rick's voice, Jimmy Haskell's arrangements, and of course, the man on Telecaster - James Burton. What a winning combination.

  • This song is from the "It's Up To You" album released in April of 1963. I was 9 years old, transistor radio under my pillow, going off to slumber land with this tune in my ears. The 'golden' age of music indeed! :) I am sooo lucky to have lived in that era!

  • One of my all time favorites! db

  • I was dating the first real love of my life when this song hit the air ways. Yes, you Janet, my Natalie Wood look alike. Well, I went away to college and she met another guy at her Heights High school....you know the rest of the story. Yes, baby, I carried the torch for years......always...RR

  • Nice song Ricky....

  • This Aussie loves Ricky Nelson as well. Fantastic songs, great songs and what a fantastic looking buy. It is such a shame he left he music world so young

  • Tracy ~ If you ever visit this post, I want to tell you that your dad was the very best. I'll bet there isn't a day in your life when you don't wake up thinking how special your dad was. You should be very very proud of him. We miss him more than I can ever express.

  • Having been born in 1947 I grew up with the Nelson Family; Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky and I can tell you that my life was made that much better by the presence of this family and, in particular, Ricky. By 1962 I had every album that Ricky had released and I always looked forward to the end of each show when Ricky would perform. When he was killed on December 31, 1985 I made a big sign for the back window of my car which read, "We'll miss you Ricky." It's been 25 years & I miss him still

  • @mikemper ~ You hit it right on the nail ~ the horns in the background are so so enjoyable ~ listeners need to concentrate on the horns and they will appreciate the sound Of course James Burton playing his Fender Telecaster didn't hurt. Burton has been recognized as one of the best of his era ~ he was the special guest at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Gutiar Festival in Chicago last summer. Burton played behind Ricky from '57 or '58 until '69 and then went on to back up Elvis Presley until 1977.

  • I never get tired of this man

  • the horn treatment is excellent in this song //

  • He was a dreamboat!

  • O_M_G!! Thats JB on the right!! i saw him live! (L)

  • love this song

  • Hey Pop, I wanna start a rock and roll band you think maybe we can hire some guy name James Burton . And who's that son ?.......................

  • Its the sincerety ..that he puts forth ..too much nonsense now-adays

  • what a good lookin man! But now a days.....he's HOT!

  • love the horn treatment here

  • Trying to pass my GCSEs here, but Ricky Nelson keeps distracting me...

  • they dont make music like this anymore

  • Those were the days, when guys looked sooooo sexy suited and booted. Ricky was such a good looking guy, too. I feel so privileged to have grown up listening to this type of music on my transistor radio. I didn't realise it then, but those were the happiest days of my life.

  • I think this guy had a lot of girls - good singer, this music is much more better than the bullshit in the radio today (Lady Gaga and other).

I` m from Germany and I like the american popmusic from 1959 - 1963, before Beatles and Stones came.

  • @MegaAxelG Best era of music!

  • @MegaAxelG your right my german friend. that was the golden age of american music with such big stars as ricky and elvis...

  • @MegaAxelG I do agree with you ...I was a little girl , but already so in love with thisboy !!! ...Later I loved Elvis ...and also the Beatles ...when I was older ...but never forget Ricky ...hope he sees us from above and likes that we still enjoy his sweet songs .....

  • @FrancoiseVandeWalle

I agree completely...my first real crush as a little girl!

  • @lflynn07 Thank you for the nice reply ...have a nice weekend !

  • @MegaAxelG Dont hate on gaga. :(

  • @MegaAxelG i've read that he said he had a LOT of girls. a VERY lot. he was devastatingly good looking. way better than elvis.

  • @MegaAxelG No shit with those Handsome clean-cut looks and beautiful singing voice you would have a lot of girls too . But actualy her got married quite young.

  • oh god he hawwwtttt!!!

  • my ELVIS .. Played an unfair 2nd fiddle to the memphis moron

  • He is mesmerizing.....hard to look away when he is singing.

  • A very under-rated performer. This guy had a lot of chart topping singles and albums. What a pleasant voice. I have enjoyed listening to his hits for all these many years. What a tragic ending to his life, but his music survives him. Miss ya', Rick... you're truly one of the great ones.

  • call of duty black ops oioioioioioioi NUK3 MUT4NT

  • this is for brittani.. ur a bitch ur mean... ur always mean to me.. i nevr talk shit to u but u always have something mean to say to me.. FUCK YOU!

  • 7 peeps who love rubbish music. :D

  • One cool dude of his time & the music speaks for itself---all the Nelsons have passed away (David recently)

  • @brucer12 I didn't know that about David. Wow....I'm 56, and it really does seem that there have been sooo many darn deaths of beloved performers as of late. Better get used to it, I guess.

  • :) If it was up to me, we'd make out. <3 <3 <3

  • @jennycakes23 What does the >3>3>3 mean in your post?

  • @naderchaser <3 is a heart. :) It means I love him. I love him. I love him.

  • Who are the other cats playing with him? All of them darn good in their own rights. Personally, I think that if this song were released today that it would chart. I really mean that. Trying to find it's genre would be tough, but this is too good.

  • @naderchaser the Guitarist is James Burton. He also played with some other guy named Elvis !!!

  • @jimkos33 Thanks for the info about him being James Burton. I thought he looked familiar!

  • @naderchaser he plays fender telecasters all the time like chissie hynde

  • When it comes to the teen heart throb thing, Bieber's got nothing on this guy. LOL

  • doesn't matter why hedied just tragic that he died so young, He was so incredibly goodlooking and his voice could melt the coldest heart a tragic end but he left behind his music and four talented children. Look at Sam and listen to him sing Garden Party and he is so like his father. Love to hear and see Matthew and Gunnar but Sam is such a huge reminder of Rick. .smarvel1960

  • 7 people just are missing out here!

  • Ah, what a man! Most beautiful thing in the world!

  • The lead break at 1.51 and that guitarist apparently inspired such guitar luminaries as Hank Marvin .

  • saudades.

  • Most underrated musician.

  • @jimmyjames1961 i agree. this is what i call teenage pop

  • these were the days BEFORE auto-tune. you had to actually have TALENT to do well. Rick did that, and he did it well. he'll never get the credit he deserves. i hope his sons do.

  • I'm a high school, half-asain, skater and I'm dancing around my room to this song.

  • @MonounsaturatedBliss Cool of you to admit that, bro. You've got eclectic musical tastes. You're a "throwback".

  • Seeing Ricky perform almost every week was one of the best parts of living during the early '60s. It was one of the best times ever.

  • die hard fan until now...

  • YES. ill marry you :)

  • Those lips are for real. His looks came from ozzie and harriet. He was as beautiful as elvis. No other man could match their looks in that era.

  • those lips are real. his looks are boyh ozzie and harriet

  • I love the demographics. America was SO much better then.

  • im only 22 .. n i love this song.. and he is hottt

  • I got to see Rickey two times. 1980, and took a lot of pictures 5 to 10 feet away. Then in 1983. I showed him the pictures while they were doing a solo, yelled that I took these a few years ago. He yelled back can I have one. I gave him one. How's that!

  • it,s a shame he got killed.

  • One word...Fantastic :)

  • 7 idiots!

  • Rick left a catalog of timeless treasures to the world that will not be forgotten. Condolences to the Nelson family on brother Dave who past away in Janurary of 2011 too. The Nelson family were a model family to be emulated.

  • @goldfortress Your condolences dont go unnoticed. My last name isn't nelson but marriage changes that. Our family apperciates your kindness. Both Dave and Ricky are missed. Our family will never be the same. Thank you.(:

  • The great James Burton on guitar..and I think that's Richie Frost on drums and Joe Osbourne on bass???

  • Of course he's miming to the recording...

  • WOW!!! And that was 'live'.!!!.. no remixes, overdubs and a faultless recording without any electronic digital paraphernalia whatsoever. Just a good honest voice, fabulous backup vocals and guitar.

  • @1ausskipper - I'm afraid I have to disagree. I don't believe this is live at all. I'm 99.9% positive he is simply miming the record here just like almost every live appearance by a band on television into the 70's. This sounds identical to the record and includes the brass instruments, which are nowhere to be seen in the video. Studio recordings at this time were still being recorded as a one shot live recording, which means everybody had to be spot on in one take. He was a great singer.

  • Ahhh...that killer smile he flashes at the end there!!!! He was so handsome! I really wish I had the chance to see him perform, unfortunatly I was only a baby when he died.

  • He wrote all his songs too ..

  • @071songwriter No.... I'm looking through the liner notes of his "greatest hits" album and the only one he wrote was "Garden Party".

  • ricky was one of the very best so gladto see and bring back great videos and songs of his on youtube!

  • Ricky Nelson was totally dreamy.

  • i asked my brother what song to look up on youtube and he said up to you so i typed it in

  • ♪♥♫Second only to Elvis Presley in my lineup when I was a girl in early 1960's ! Swooooon!! ♪ ♥♫

  • @patanderson1948

you are an old ugly woman now !!!

  • Dreamy. :)

  • better looking and better voice than Elvis!

  • @civilwardoc1 it's not true that free basing cocaine caused the plane crash. that rumour was refuted by a year long investigation by the National Transit Safety Board. the plane had a history of mechanical problems, Rick Nelson had a fear of flying and only flew because travelling by bus wasn't a convenient alternative. He would not endanger himself or his band and fiance further by indulging in such a dangerous activity as free basing cocaine.

  • @darius595 If I recall correctly the crash was caused by a fire in the aircraft that was started by a malfunctioning heater. I think it was a privately owned DC-3 and the heater was fueled by kerosene

  • bob newhart on drums

  • james burton's solo is amazing

  • Music's a little generic and derivative, his voice is nice, but doesn't have range. But, no doubt he's a handsome man, the drummers a looker himself.

  • Everybody liked (and like) pretty Ricky and his soft unique voice - all his songs are real diamonds for me - thanks!

  • check out the lee scratch perry version -make up your mind -no offence if you dont like it

  • My dad and mom mentioned him as the most handsome in his time. It took me 30 years to find out. Yup, they are right, he's really gorgeous, even before the make up and touch up, wow ..........

  • beautiful voice, beautiful face.

  • I sent flowers to his funeral. Harriet actually took the time to hand write a thank you card. How nice is that?

  • @garymichaelshannon

The Nelsons are a top notch and Wonderful Family.

  • good singer and all his choice songs are all pleasant!!!

  • remember the best, how a decent nelson family, taught many other families to live decent, thank you nelson family

  • Another great solo by the legendary James Burton.

  • I'm so glad I was raised in the 50's with such great songs and singers as Ricky, Bobby Vinton, Elvis and many more. Kids raised today don't have a clue, I feel sorry for them.

  • @jannieja I feel sorry for myself, I'm just glad I listen to oldies as much as my grandparents doo..

  • I'm so glad I grew up in the 50's. The music was great and so original, so much better than the stuff of today. Nelson here, Bobby Vinton, Elvis, they were all great. Kids today don't have a clue. I actually feel sorry for them. Thanks for this posting!

  • @jannieja I so envy you too. I wish I couls have been 17-21 during this era, Simpler times; and great music.

  • so so talented. I hope you are resting in peace.

  • We need some one who can sing to re introduce America to this genre of music . Its

pure, voices and harmonies, touch the heart like nothing else Ive ever heard since.

They say you cannot go back. Why not! Music today sucks, and this stuff is great!

Real rock and roll.......Sorry Beattles and British invasion groups you don't count, they are the ones who ruined R&R

  • needlessly died by some imbecile smoking coke on his ill fated flight.

  • What a sweet boy - with a nice voice - all girls loved him !

  • i like turtles!

  • einfach super ;-)

  • Saw him in concert 2 months before he died his voice was deeper and the band were the best. He was back to his roots.

  • i swear, i have a friend who looks like him :D ... i just love this music :D

  • a thing of beauty...

  • One of my favorites by Rick....and great sound! Thanks for sharing!

  • I was to young for him , but I think he is the best looking man I have ever seen and a great singer ♪

  • Ricky is constantly closing his eyes while singing.

  • i am 69 years old and i danched to all his music he was great

  • @fisherman414............ Same here fisherman, the memories are great

  • Fantástica balada. Descanse en paz Ricky

  • Hey guys, I am another straight man who cannot deny that Rick was just one good looking dude. I've read many of these post on all his songs and videos and this is more then just the general consensus. Rick had plenty of girls waiting in line for him. Ron

  • James Burton on fantisimo guitar!

  • he has such a beautiful tone to his voice :) and I love his guitar :D

  • James Burton may be the greatest unsung guitar hero of rock-n-roll!

  • If there are true Angels, Rick Nelson is the picture of one. Truely beatiful man.

  • Elves mix James Dean~

    He is soooooooooooo good looking~

  • Of all his songs, this one was my favorite! Old Ricky had some demons but he sure looks clean cut and wholesome here. It was a simple a good time when Dems and Reps didn't hate each other as they do now. If I were a time traveler, I'd go back to the days of Ricky Nelson and get a job.

  • Wonderful love Ricky ☺

  • SMOOOOOTH, YEAH.....LOVE HIS LIPS!

  • he's so cute

  • Sencillamente maravillosa balada

  • One of my favorite songs by Rick. Great song. This guy was great.
