  • the 60 and early 70 was the best time for music i was a latt born in 71 god they was gods back than i know i play guitar now days music very easy to play back than it took skill

  • This may not be perfect...but one thing lingers in my mind from playing in bands, myself. They look like they are HAVING FUN up there, smiling and just doin' it.

  • Y lo "volvieron a hacer" (ellos)...Larga vida Steely Dan

  • Steely Dan was before my time but I'm a Music major in college and I have to say this is some of the best music I've heard from this era of time and it fits so well with any generation whether it be the 70's 80's 90's and on up. To bad there aren't more bands like this anymore great tune and even better band thanks for posting it

  • Where the f--k is Walter Becker? Carlton is great, but the Dan is Fagen AND Becker.

  • @tonymenown Agreed....totally. Like most Bands of that era (so it seems) that still tour(good) S.D. is no exception. (not good) After 35 + yrs., so many changes, alot we know about......even more I'd quess, we don't. I just try (not ONLY with S.D. but several acts that fall into this category) to enjoy what/who is left....no small feat...& remember "That Giants Once Roamed the Earth"

  • @tonymenown

Becker's right in front of the drum set. And he will tell you that he didn't play most of the memorable solo bits on the Dan's albums.

  • The Danettes with early '70's do's - you gotta love it!

  • wow what a line up.. hey anyone notice that Fagan sings most of the tunes in a different sort of timing the way he phrases the lines.its like it almost sounds rushed, he ends off time & too quickly, leaving weird dead space where he should still beholding the notes..i wonder if he is doing that intentionally out of boredom to refresh the tune or his voice can't hold the notes or whatever?

  • @MOSKII58 it's "fagen" and yes i noticed it. hard not to.

  • good quality, thanks

  • Real cool. I saw Larry Carlton in Boulder, CO the week before this show and he had a meet & greet and talked about the up coming steely dan shows. He did play Kid C as an instrumental in concert. I wish I could have been there.

  • "that weekend at the college didn't go as planned..."TIMELESS............

  • Thank you both for your comments. We were sitting in Row 4. Carlton ripped those solos on Kid C and Don't Take Me Alive. After this show, he wandered by the restaurant where some of us were having drinks. He told me that he didn't rehearse at all, just practiced his solos, and relied heavily on Jon to direct him through the set. Imagine that - that's how good he is - he just walked on and fit in with the rest of the band. Incredible.

  • GREAT FOOTAGE . you were so close. It is interesting how off the cuff they played. It is clear that Larry was confused on what bar to stop playing and the momentum died until Jon got the crowd to clap during the void . Larry had a big hand in the song writing and sound of the SD records of the 70's. God Damn they were good seats! I was upper deck aja 7-28

  • Larry looks completely lost from the opening chord. He looks like a kid copying a paper gaping over at Jon Herington. Carlton transcribed some of the charts on Aja and Royal Scam, but was not a songwriter on any of their songs.. Still, Kid C and Don't Take Me Alive feature some of the finest guitar solos of the rock era.
