It is ironically sad and funny that Yang in life never liked this song, or at least never liked any situation this song was sung.(blind patriotism), yet the people, even his close friends, wife and foster son cannot help but sing this song in remeberance and repect of his sacrifices for democracy and the people. That makes me wonder Yang must be sighing and shaking his head helplessly when they sung this song in his funeral. Never an easy moment for our beloved Yang.
I'm not so sure that Yang would disapprove. This song celebrates the ideals and spirit of democracy, the same such ideals that were taken advantage of by the FPA government under Trunicht and were the rallying cry of the freedom fighters on Iserlohn. In the days of Trunicht, Yang did not believe in the sort of democracy the FPA had become, thus he hated this song. Later on, Yang believes in preserving the spirit of democracy, a legacy that Julian carries on. Yang would be proud to hear it again.
Its sad because, there were people who still believed in the original, pre-war Alliance ideals. People like Lebello and Hwan, and many lower-level administrators and workers. Even in the FPA military, there were still a lot of honest people. The older generation Admiral Bucock sent on one last, defiant clash at Mar-Adette despite the odds, and many of the soldiers who followed Yang. Yang likely hated the song when hearing it from people like Trunhit. From Bucock, he wouldn't have minded it.
No, in the sense of the lyric, it actually means that by voting for a leader in a democratic society, the people become the rulers of themselves. After all, one can rule ownself, but not lead ownself, right?

That scene after the founding of the Republic of Iserlohn where they sang it moved me more than any real national anthem.

ヤバい これ自分も歌ってるんだわ(^-^;

"F" that stands for our freedom
as well the flag that stands so strong
Sprite set free in our future land,
so let us share in this song
My friends, not so far away
Rules will reunite hand in hand
Oh hail! Liberty bell!
True freedom for all men.

Fighting hard for the future
The promise of a better day
For tomorrow we drink from the cup,
the wine we fought for today
my friends, let us sing a song
sing a long ring a bell, liberty!
Oh hail! Liberty bell!
True freedom for all men.

Oh hail the flag that set us free
standing righteous symbolic of
strength our hopes for freedom to be.

The first verse's lyrics are wrong. It's missing a line, and the 5th line is incorrect.

I think they should sing " Leaders will reunite hand in hand ", not "Rulers" .
Statesmen in democratic country "leads" fellow people, not "rules" people.
patlaborcrewman 2 years ago
No, in the sense of the lyric, it actually means that by voting for a leader in a democratic society, the people become the rulers of themselves. After all, one can rule ownself, but not lead ownself, right?
