IIRC this had the front engined Mustang GTP, predecessor of the Ford Probe GTP. Al Holbert's well built 962 sits just two miles from here at his VW-Porsche-Audi dealership, when it's not on a Porsche tour. Group 44 Jags, the Buick Marches......this was *almost* as awesome a time as the CanAm......almost.
Do you have the 1986 Imsa race at Road America? Im looking to see more of that one? Didnt Al Holbert end up winning that race? Thanks for posting these video's!
Hey everyone, Yes this is from the American Sports Cavalcade show that used to be on TNN. I'm planning on posting more IMSA races from the early 80s in the New Year, as well as Indycar and other sportscar races from the 80s.
Im kinda positive that this race was broadcast on TNN's American Sports Cavalcade, because if you listen to the announcers closely, they were the hosts of the show, Steve Evans, and Brock Yates
Road America gives us some of the most beautiful racing tracks

Love the beautiful livery on the Porsche 962s! And watch Holbert run away from the field!
I love how there was so much variation among the engine/induction combos back then......

Wow !!! The track hasen't changed a bit since 1984. HeHe. A crash in the Kink and no full coarse. Crazy.

Can you imagine a Nascar race running there at Road America?
racingformusic 2 years ago
I can think of other cars I'd rather see then Nascar at Road America.

I was there for the XJR-5's
Ferrari would not compete in GTP, so Jaguar did it for them.
It would take a few years and a new TWR team, but the they won Le Mans twice. Ferrari has not won at the Sarthe circuit since 1965.

What station broadcast is this? TBS used to show the early Camel GT days in the '80s before ESPN took over.
