THESE GUYS WERE THE REAL SHIT WHEN THEIR DOUBLE LP CAME OUT IN THE SAME TIME AS DA GOONIES AND ROSES !!! BUT WITH A MUCH BETTER SONGWRITTING A BETTER SINGING AND ALSO A BETTER SOUND PRODUCTION IRONICLY EVEN THE SAME RECORD LABEL WHICH CHOOSED TO PUSH THE WRONG BAND !!! REALLY KIND OF SUB AEROSMITH WANABEES !!! rock city angels just fucking ruled over everything else in the classic hard rocking boogie blues genre !!! HELL YEAH ...
i remember i bought the cd,and still got it somewhere,i used to listen it all day..it was a very very underrated band,i think the cd was a minor masterpiece.
God I loved this album. Wore that cassette out! I met Bobby Durango once at the Coconut Teazer in Hollywood. Cool dude. This was after they renamed the band Durango. I like the Rock CIty Angles name way better. Too bad they never became big.
it's rumoured that the band was shelved after Geffen spent 2 million on it's release(which never happens) because Hollywood wanted Johnny Depp to NOT go back to the band...there are lots of rumours about this band and why they did'nt make it and thats the best one...they WERE the next big band in LA after GNR made it...doesn't make sense that they were'nt promoted after so much money thrown their way...I worked at record stores all my life and this NEVER came out on CD to begin with...
@BlackHole1217 Hi, I'm not quite sure what you mean with your "NEVER came out on CD" post???. I have the CD in front of me now : GEFFEN 9241932, which I bought in the UK in 1988. I didn't even own a CD player then, so taped it at a friend's house. I have since picked up a double vinyl copy.
I had this album and LOVED this song!! Such a loss they never got the backing to really make it big. If you get a chance get the disc and be prepared to love it.
The Rock City Angels started out in the early 1980s as the punk rock band "The Abusers", the product of singer Bobby Bondage and original bassist Andy Panik's chance meeting at a late night showing of the movie "The Decline of Western Civilization".
I told everybody I could about these guys when they first hit the airwaves. I miss them and yes, I'll be picking up the CD as soon as I can. I was just a kid when they came out. I think I was 14 when I bought their double album on cassette. I'm a writer now and there is a piece of their music somewhere in my work.
I got the cd version, and the lp version. Ey Bobby I was in the serie z in Spain and you didn´t play. Why ? Wish you the best with the new cd, but i can´t make the order on the webpage...always mistake.
I still ( after all these years) can't figure out why " Guns ' n' Roses " made it big, and these guys didn't stir the rock 'n' roll pool even a little bit. " Rock City Angels" still hit my turntable minimum twice a week. "Guns" have been in the garbage can for quite a while now....
I read it in Classic Rocks a few months ago. They signed these but basically left them, no promotion or anything because Guns had just taken off and they didn't want to 'flood the market' by having 2 (what they thought were similar sounding :S) bands being promoted at once. So Guns blew up these were left with nothin so they did nothin, shame really cos they kick ass and are different n original.
the rock city angels were in a class with bands like junkyard, kick axe, helix, shotgun messiah, and dangerous toys... bands that had what it took to become HUGE, but couldnt for some odd reason.
you guys should've been an american rolling stones...still listen 2 young mans blues on a regular basis...beyond babylon...our little secret...wild tiger...great shit. you lived directly above me on franklin ave. when i lived in hollywood...91-92..we chatted a few times. good to see you're still around bobby, keep a rockin' mate.
This wasn't the "original" members either. This band has had tons of very talented musicians, I come up with the direction and they help me get there.
the ENGINEER in this vid is Roland Janes who played guitar on all the Jerry Lee Lewis/Billy Lee Riley rockabilly CLASSICS! I met him in 2007 what a guy!
Was this recorded on VH1 Classic's "Metal Mania", God I miss that show (we don't have VH1 Classic anymore), is it still as good now as it was in the early 2000s?
I can't thank you enough for posting this!! i just listened to the interview and it's EFFIN' AWESOME!! Bobby is a cool muther fukker, been dun wrong and isn't even the least bit bitter. The interview has one of their new songs too. sound just like they did for Young Man's Blues!!

Rock City Angels were an awesome band that got no label or MTV support. Too bad Rumblefish is one of the greatest rock tunes ever.

@BlackHole1217
I've just interviewed Bobby Durango for my blog where he clears up all the stuff said about them and Geffen.
I can't link from here, but it's at
itsaxxxxthing blog. Google that and it should get you there.
If not the interview will be on Soundcheck Webzine soon enough.

Timing, who you know, politics and the desire(or lack thereof) to kiss ass. Not so odd.

This song totally kicks ass! It's a shame they couldn't of been huge, I wish today's music would be this good.
For some reason the singer's voice almost reminds me of the singer from Raging Slab.
