@simonvstrijp Gen 2 came out several years after Gen 1, like around '92 or '93. Most of the initial toys were loud, colorful redecos of G1 toys, but new molds came along later.

People get confused about G1 and the seasons, thinking G2 is post-movie. As far as the US cartoon is concerned, all 4 seasons - s1 & s2 pre-movie, s3 & s4 (Rebirth mini-series) post-movie, and of course the movie itself - are G1.

There was no unique G2 cartoon; they just aired fancy "Cybernet Space Cube" re-runs of G1.

Now I hear people are saying newer version of an old rehash is always better, then again without the origin, there'd be nothin. One thing i noticed about newer series. everyone may call transformers "kiddie" but understand the G-1 dialogue, it tries to take itself more seriously without as much cheap sight gags, or that cutesy appeal kids cartoons have. Those that call g-1 "just a big advert" for toys maybe right in many ways, but seriously the sarcasm and language in g1 was far more than kiddy.

see people i grew up after the orginal transformers was ended and only saw like five re-runs when i was like 4-5. i LOVE the original, and that new transformers animated is an ok show and does pay lots of respect to the original. i still love the first one that started it all the most though. transformers the TV show was only intended to air like 6 episodes but pit was so good it became a god of the eightys. but the newer ones are still good

You realize Transformers is a kids toy franchise, so is targeted at the current generation of kids, and remains a cornerstone in Hasbro's toy line? Also, Transformers was the 5th highest grossing movie of 2007, 28th highest ever.

They act like G1 is so superior and refuse to give anything outside it a chance. They refused to give Beast Wars a chance because of Alt modes, and they refused Animated because of the drawing style. Despite that, they both have good plots and character development.

It had great action, taught lessons to its viewers, and had morals and high standards. I personally like all transformers that were released from G1 to Cybertron. Best of the G1 intros hands down, the first being the second best and the third being rather 'meh'. I'm glad that Animated, if anything else, got a kickass version of the song for its intro. I'm not sure if I like it as much as this one, but it's better than the 'Mute Math' (and any of the Bay themes for that matter), and pretty much topples AEC's intros.

There's a lot of confusion about the main titles in today's fandom, probably thanks to the DVDs.

This main title sequence with this song was used only for a few months of season 2 before it was scrapped and replaced midseason by the newer song that was eventually used for seasons 3 and 4. For the rest of G1's TV run, this version of the theme was never used again until the DVD releases.

What visuals are you suggesting they replaced these ones with? Because changing the music but not the visuals (mid-season, mind you) doesn't make a lot of sense. Can you point me to a version of the intro that you're referring to?

I have to agree. Although the season 1 theme song might be more "iconic," I believe this season 2 version of the theme song to be the best of Generation 1. I might be wrong, but I think there is a version of the season 2 opening that used the season 2 visuals, but the season 3 version of the song. Maybe that was done for repeat airings or in syndication?
