I agree with you dude. Aside from Skyrim I haven't been blown away by any game in the past year. It seems mostly now i'm locked into to the franchises, buying for the story mainly. We don't grow the hardware, it needs to be developed. the hardware inside the consoles is alot cheaper than the equivalent to a pc. Hence the custom parts. companies don't just throw things together and call it new, they develop the entire thing. from the hardware to the software.
i think the actual consoles generation can be pushed up over 4 years at least, i mean, why do you need more graphics on a console when there is a pc? consoles are supposed to be accessible by most of the people, they are cheaper than a high end pc graphics card,

I dont think that companies can afford to put the absolute newest and best components available in their consoles, but I completely agree with you, they could do better if they cut the multimedia bullshit. Why wouldn't you want to have a new console? The 360 is freaking 6 years old and the PS3 is right there with it. There is no indication from Microsoft or Sony of a new console anytime soon and you guys aren't mad at that? I am an older gamer and new consoles used to come out around every 5 years, heck sometimes even faster. It was great seeing the leaps in technology, the current games have hit a plateau. I just got rage today on 360 and it has impressive graphics and smooth animations but slow loading new areas and textures appear when you turn fast. I hav noticed this in crysis 2, and the battlefield 3 beta. Gears of war 3 doesn't do this.
I am not ready for a new console to be quite honestly. Seems like this generation just started and now, we are talking about new new consoles already?!?! These companies should think of the the economy besides their bottom line. I have to admit that I am one that cannot afford a 700 dollar PS4 if Sony repeats their past mistakes. If they are still making money this generation, continue with it like Sony learned the hard way with the whole PS2 BC debacle that caused it to go way past its prime.
The flash drive might be the return of the cartridge. But unfortunately I think the future of gaming will be cloud gaming. I say unfortunately because you need high speed internet and I like to have the game in my hands like cartridges or cd's. Also I think at the end of a console's life span is when the really creative games come out. Developers find really creative ways to work with the technology at hand.

there is some nano technology out there to, and my job is to create a disc to withstand and hold 500 gigabyte capacity on a single disc. we tried exploring the flashdrive but there are several problems with the compatibilty and getting the two to work. if that small chip can store that much why cant the next gen consoles use the old cartrages like the old days. (with a thinner look, disc-shaped or maybe a glass-like object with a chip in the center just throwing ideas here) . yeah not 2 be a fanboy but xbox is holding pc and playstation back if it wasnt for xbox the ps3 would have better graphiced games multiplatform thats why it only shows in exclusives for ps3 and pc would be even more ahead they would be like real life and if apple joined the mix it would probaby be another nintendo just geting in the way of developement for videogames they would probably have 2 run on 480p to 720p graphics at best do to the lac of expirience and for nintendo they in another world

there is some nano technology out there to, and my job is to create a disc to withstand and hold 500 gigabyte capacity on a single disc. we tried exploring the flashdrive but there are several problems with the compatibilty and getting the two to work. Still in the works, but project cafe that nintendo is doing will shock and awe millions. if you want to message me on comments or questions, even opinions on what you want in a console.

if that small chip can store that much why cant the next gen consoles use the old cartrages like the old days. (with a thinner look, disc-shaped or maybe a glass-like object with a chip in the center just throwing ideas here) . Ive lost alot of games to my little brother because the discs were too fragile. if it cant store much why use it?

3d will be the next paradigm, then holographic immersion, then nanotech will interfere with our nervous systems and trick our brains into thinking that computer simulated environments are "real". and then that will be the singularity. most of our time will be spent in virtual environments not unlike the matrix.

this is just due to the steady exponential rate at which our technology is shrinking. take into consideration the fact that an iphone is more powerful than the computer which sent man to the moon in 69', and it fits in your pocket instead of taking up an entire room.
