Love the FOWLR.........and I fucking hate tang police!!!!!! There just contradicting wankers! "oh no that tank is too small for tangs, minimum 7 foot" yet these cunts keep them in 3 foots! If you put a tang in a tank then so long as he isn't climbing the glass Walls or wedging himself amongst LR then he's happy.
i have a 125g right now....one firefish..haha i had sharks n groupers with triggers then decided to get a reef tank n marine madness i really dont think ur tank is oversticked but its ur tank so whatever haha btw guy who posted this vid in my oppinion u need a lot more rock.. my tank is side to side top to bottom with rock haha
Oh hey, you're from PA too! That's awesome, i go to TFP quite a lot, i'm down by camp hill where i live- so i can't make the drive that much. Looking to start up an aquarium here soon- i'm mostly a reptile guy but reefs look extremely fun to have!
@MARINEMADNESS123 Your tank is very over stocked. Upgrade or trade for smaller fish. Pretty soon you will have fish dead because a volitan lion will get over 2 feet and the others over one and the hippo just like the lion needs a fish tank over 100 gallons.
@PWNINGGOLDFISH i can assure you that RIGHT NOW my tank is not over stocked i realize tangs do need a big tank and we will upgrade to a 250 gallon in our basement soon,i personally haven't seen a tank yet on youtube big enough for tangs since in the wild they live in schools of like 30 or more.A 120g tank would be big enough to house a lion its whole life<my opinion. biggest aquarium kept lion ever recorded was 1'3"...2' maybe in the wild.
I like that first tank you showed us with the blue light what light bulb is that? and where can I get one. I have a 20 gallon and would like to have that lighting for my 20 gallon. later I'll get a bigger tank but not now.
By the way I like your overall setup, very cool, it's like a science lab. Very impessive that you are keeping all this without water changes, your doing something right.
I used to have algae problems, then I cut my lights back to 5 hours a day and I keep corals with that without a problem. My coralline algae has taken over the tank and adios to the hair algae. I learned this from a guy from Puerto Rico. Try this if you are still having the hair algae problem.
please e-mail me, I need a list of everything i need to buy to get my 175 gallon bow front tank going. all i have is the tank and stand. please help :) romans4_17@yahoo.com
nitrates 20ppm wow, your hair algae is due to phosphate, yet another problem due to no water changes. also your yellow tang isnt healthy it is pale and that is the 1st sign of unhappy fish, take advise and get a phosphate reactor and do a 25% water change weekly for 4 weeks then test your water quality and reduce water changes to 15% weekly! I promise u that there will be a massive difference in the way your fish react. they all look miserable. look at my juwel vision 450 video and c for urself
@ 6:06 did you say your nitrates are @ 20 ppm? NO NO NO! both your nitrates and nitrites should be @ zero! Time for a water change. and for your hair algae problem you should invest in a lawnmower blenny,
I'm not exactly sure how much I put in. I think it was between 50-75 lbs. Yeah, live rock can be pricey. You might want to buy the cheap base rock/dead rock and add a piece or two of live rock with it. The live rock will seed the base rock over time.
@showtime302 you should never measure live rock by pounds, you should have enough rock, that if you stuck it all of it to one end it would fill up 1/3 of the tank, because the thing is the lighter the rock the better, because that means it is more holy which makes for more surface area for bacteria to grow
i had a bad algea problem with my salt water tank too. i used the lights less often and it helped some. I understand you dont want to kill your inverts though.
I actually took this tank apart when I set up my 150 gallon tank. The algae was on that rock good. I had to boil it to remove the algae. But doing this kills everything on the rock!
I had a set of rocks I kept outside and would hose off the dry dead algae when I would rotate them with the rocks from the tank. It was a bummer the live rocks would die and lose the nice colors they had.
r u going to sell that 55 gallon? if so i am interested and man uve had those fish for a very very long time. i had some for about a yr. and i thought those lasted a really long time
I have it in storage, but probably won't sell it. I still have the other 55 gallon setup as a hospital/holding tank. My hippo tang is almost 4 years old now!!
your system is so beautiful! I'm just starting out from my college apartment and I can only hope to have a setup like this one day. Looks like I've got more research to do. :)
Hey it looks like your tangs could use some green seaweed, its part of there diet and it adds color and keeps them from getting head and laterial eye corrosion
Yeah, since I moved them to the 150 gallon tank I have been giving them alot more sea veggies. There color does pop out with more of this in there diet! Thanks!
your velvet damsel is nice hes huge the biggest one ive seen thats good how you can keep your first fish that shows that your really commited and dont let anything slip good job and really good looking tank i like your rock structure
It would be best to keep most of your current water as well as the most important element......the bacteria. You definitely want to transfer your live rock and/or live sand over to give the tank a great start with bacteria. If you don't have live rock or sand, make sure you transfer the other substrate in your old tank over to the new tank. Also you should transfer the canister filter or hang on filter over to the new tank to get the nitrifying bacteria going.
I'm a representative of the Tang police. Have you moved those Tangs into the 150 that you mentioned? The bigger they get the more stressed they will become. Nice fish.
did you say it's been a year since the last water change on the tank with the Regal tang? i am doing 5 gallon out of 55 gallons every sunday. how is this possible?
Yes, the only reason that was possible is because of the refugium and mangroves, Also only feeding once a day or every other day. All the fish that were in that tank are now in my 150 gallon and doing well:)
Nice long term set up .besides the display size. Very nice
