  • SONIC DERP.

  • Mammy!!!

  • Derp. Derp.

  • Not racist! How about when whites are called veriest off colored remarks even to this day! The door swings both ways,if it's not good for one it's not good for any others as well! I suppose it's species profiling in the scenes with Porky Pig..Or How about Yosemite Sam? Wonder what slur would fit Goofy or Daffy Duck?

  • I wonder how much they charged for Bonds

  • Thats Racist!

  • This is Funny, not Racist :)

  • Does this kind of remind anyone else of Fallout?

  • This cartoon wasn't banned. It actually wasn't even originally in the Bugs Bunny series. This was put in theaters to promote bonds.

  • 1:10 this is an awesome meme.

  • how is called march on the beginning?

  • Haha this is very creative.

  • Thanks For the plug for the US War Bonds Program Fellas. You really know how to inspire American patriotisim.

BTW:"Bugs Bunny's"Blackface impression of Al Jolson is not racist..so The Heads Of The NAACP Can go F-!

  • great news I was told by my dealer at reichs kino that they bought the original masters from a whole sale of the original forbbidden fruit racist warner brothers 11 cartoons and they will be released very soon they are the masters also

  • So that's why Mickey Mouse win over Bugs Bunny? :/

  • DERP!

  • BURRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGSSSSSS BURRRNNNHYYY

  • May be a good idea to get back into this type of investment.

  • 1:09 Original Derp Face!!!!

  • 1:10 Historical Face.

  • I don't believe it was that African Americans didn't care. It was that it didn't matter if they cared. Many of you are forgetting that Al Jolson's comedy built off of the degradation of the African American race. It's racially insensitive... to say the least

  • I wanna buy some fucking war bonds.

  • 1:09

    oh u

  • You are all indoctrinated sheep.

    Death to democracy.

  • To any well informed individual democracy gives the illusion that we are free. Wake Up!

  • @RobHimselff No.

  • 1:10 sonic derp face

  • Great stuff, great times, love it!

  • This is not ban Cartoon Network had a Bugs Marathon in 2001 originaly they plan to show it,then pulled it.However Cartoon Network did air it, with the blackface part removed, on a ToonHeads special about lost and rare Warner Bros. cartoons.

Some syndicated TV prints discard the scene of Bugs in blackface.

There no law keep a network from showing the black face scene.

  • i think i hered that mel blanc (the voice of every looney tune charecter) was racist i dont know why but i hered that hes jewish.and another thing back then the african americans didn't care if they showed this.cuz i dont know if its a joke when the animaters were making this or they just didnt care

  • This is great, historical stuff. Thanks for posting!

  • Im a little confused as to how this is rascist. Be gentle im 15 and i have no idea what all this is about.

  • Its a fucking Al Jolson parody. Get over it!

  • 1:10

  • too bad the media won't get behind our troops like this now

  • It's amazing how serious everybody handles this matter... Can't we just leave it at that this is hilarious?

  • SAAAMMY. MY UNCLE SAMMY.

  • I can't get over how well animated this is.

Considering it was pretty much just people drawing it frame-by-frame without any machines or computers to help them - and also considering how many Loony Toons cartoons were made - it's seriously mind-boggling how it always turned out so flawless.

  • 1:10

  • Wow...Elmer Fudd was fat back them...

  • this deserves an award for inspiring the greatest sonic pic eva

  • Kinda sad that this American animation is better than most current 2-D animation in America now.

  • 1:10 his face is fucking hilarious.

  • It's not racist, really. It's a parody of The Jazz Singer, a popular movie, even today, of which its success allowed Warner Brothers to produce cartoons in the first place. Merely a friendly nod.

  • Interesting cartoon. Too bad about the black face though. If anyone tried the black face today, there sure would be hell to pay.

  • 1:10

  • iM SOLD!!! iLL BUY SOME BONDS TODAY!!!! Great cartoon and great part of our history, nothing racist about this at all! Lighten up and thicken your skin!!! Its about coming together as Americans! We could use the togetherness today, with the Libs taking over and socialism knocking on the door!

  • bonds were a bad investment then people lost 50% because inflation, bad investment now worse than internet banks checking account.

  • Yeah there's nothing racist about black face at all right, yup the Liberals are taking over yet gays don't have equal rights, "minorities" still don't make as good a living as upper class whites but the Liberals and socialists are taking over. Libs, Repubs, Dems, Conservatives you're all ass backwards and neither one of you works towards the benefit of society or the people as a whole

  • Imitation is not racism. Well, what do you call what is going on in WASH.? Its not free-market ideas!!! Its a power grab plain and simple. Yes,both Dems and Repubs are guilty.Thats why youll see incumbents voted out this Nov.

Dont confuse special rights with human rights. If Im murdered by another male then its a horrific crime. But,if a gay man is murdered then it becomes a hate crime? Why is a Gay mans life more valuable than mine? Just need to use common sense.

  • No life should be more valuable than another why don't you omnivores process that. Why is your life more valuable than an animals, it isn't. Black face has always been racist because it's a derogatory depiction of black stereo types. Until people stop being complacent and waiting for politicians to fix things and stand up and fix it themselves they're doomed to repeat the same patterns. There's common sense for you

  • @retrograderenegades

You're right, no life has more value than any other. ALL life is absolutely valueless. There is no value in any individual life, neither human nor animal.

  • LOL in all seriousness though if you aren't being a smart ass I am intrigued to hear why you think this.

  • Yep, and as soon as the liberals take over, everything will be wonderful and happy, and everyone will be "equal", and mankind won't have to care about Nature, or natural order, or that horrible thing called "Reality" :)

  • Liberals, Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives all don't give a shit about progress. They only care about their values not what's in the best interest of everyone.Fuck your political system

  • @retrograderenegades

What political system? I, personally, don't really care about politics. The political/human world doesn't really affect me or my family.

  • Great film. I first saw this in the 1996 documentary "Cartoons go to War" when it was shown on the History Channel.

  • I've seen this one before.

  • He's acting like Al Jolson, who is white. Next you'll want to ban the Jazz Singer. The real problem is not using blackface, the real problem is that kids today don't know what blackface is, who Al Jolson was, or what the hell a war bond was for. Teach them about that, let them figure out any racist parts for themselves.

  • Quoted for truth.

  • black face bugs is funny

  • hey i have a better clerer copy of this

  • interesting- who could resist bugss charm?? im in

  • So is this actually banned or is just it never gets shown anymore because it's no longe relevant?

  • It's probably actually banned because of the racially offensive humor.

  • Irving Berlin wrote this song specifically for the first U.S. Savings Bond drive in the spring of 1941- and it was used again for this special "trailer".

  • ANY BONDS TODAY BONDS OF FREEDOM THAT'S WHAT IM SELLING!SAMMY MY MY UNCLE SAMMY!!!Classic!I have it on VHS!

  • classic

  • Bob Clampett, who directed this special "trailer" for the U.S. Treasury Dept., introduced the "chubbier" version of Elmer in "Wabbit Twouble" (1941), and was featured him in his concurrent Bugs cartoon, "The Wacky Wabbit" (1942).

  • I must admit, the blackface bit was a little much, however I cannot say that the ends (assuming that the cartoon inspired people to purchase bonds) did not justify the means. It was important to keep up funding for the war effort so the importance of advertisements such as this one cannot be understated, however I think we would all prefer that blackface had been left out if possible.

  • What was racist about this film? Bugs Bunny doing the Al Jolson bit? *sighs* The people of this country have just way too much time on thier hands. Understand the context of the time these were made. Does anyone think that the Japanese/Germans/Italians would be made to appear human? This was a fight to the death, or don't some of you think so?

  • Buy war bonds or die

  • "Buy war bonds or die" trying

  • why the in the world would this get banned

  • Manipulating children..usin cartoons..lame. I always thought Bugs were anarchist.. :(

  • it's too bad the last WWII vetrans will pass away soon, they were incredible

  • I like this Video I don't see why it's banned. it's like the USA can't make any comments anymore without someone crying.

  • but this is about american civil war??

  • No, dear, during the Civil War, I don't think they had television yet. In fact, I don't even think they had motion pictures yet, but I could be wrong. This is about World War II, around 1930-1940, somewhere around there, I think. I never was good at history...

  • youre right

  • wow you people do know this is from the second world war right OMG!!! enough about Iraq and how sexest and racest it is.

  • Illegal war? they ran fucking air planes into our buildings. stop over thinking it.they started it,period.

  • and if the "they" is al queada (my spelling bites) then go after them.

if the "they" if iraq, please read more. not trying to be cute or smart ass.

yes i know this cartoon is WWII.

  • 69chevy68 its because of people like you that war is a problem on this planet. you think a good reason to support an illegal war is "they started it" not everyone in that country that are being killed are terrorists or believe in what terrorists do-and you support that? its scary people actually think like that. whoever ran those air planes are evil, what makes you think going to their country and killing innocent people there isnt.

  • hi, nice to see other peace motivated people.

thank you for your words. they ran planes!!

better go after those antarctic terrorists. had to joke. tired of being apologetic to war lovers.just tired.

  • Sorry chief but last time I checked CONGRESS which includes both democrats and republicans declared war on Iraq thus making it legal. So get your facts right and don't come out and reply that there have not yet been any wmds found or any other crap. Frankly I'm sick and tired of every one of you tree hugging, pot smoking, illegal alien loving, "stop bush" no blood for oil bumper sticker SUV driving, save darfur schmucks.

  • Get a hair cut, move out of the suburbs, get a job (without your parents help) and then look at a map find Baghdad and the Sudan and then learn where they are. Then I want you to read as many history books as can anywhere from the time of Pericles to Qin Shi Huang to whenever, and then and only then can you come to a conclusion of your own until then don't call it an illegal war you only sound silly.

  • k4wood, I served in the Army and I'm for peace. I didn't serve to support my government, I served to support my country. Haven't you read Thomas Paine? A government, at best, is just an agency that the people of a nation hire to handle their common affairs for them. I agree that the war is not illegal, that assertion has no logical foundation, but that does not make it right. Invading a sovereign nation without provocation is wrong...with or without approval of Congress.

  • Bahgdad is in the middle east in the center of a contry recognized as Iraq which borders Iran to the east, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to the south, Jordan and Syria to the west/north, and Turkey to the north. the area was formerly known as mesopotamia or "the fertile crescent" since it was situated between two rivers the Tigris and Euprhates. I know this without a map or the internet so shut up! i probably have more schooling than u dickwad and i know that the war was a bad idea

  • ill keep this short.

    do the stereotypes help communications?

probably not. id be very inaccurate if i went that way toward you sir.

actually hairs pretty short , that doesnt have much play in reality anymore.

    lastly, did iraq bomb us?

im interested in the truth, im not on anyones side just for the record.

ive been a declared pascifist since 7 years old.

you can slam this if you want, no biggie.

    have a good one.

  • And it used to be common to smack women around.Blackface was done at a time when it was the only way for blacks to make $ thru TV,by degrading themselves.Blackface is a racist mockery of African Americans.Learn some cultural awareness

  • LOL! That little dance!

And yes, Elmer was packing quite the poundage!

  • We love you Bugs. Keep up the good work!!

  • Bugs, you 2faced, racist, sell-out!!!

  • "buy your freedom" that's kinda shocking

  • Who banned this? Communists?

  • I remember seeing elmer fudd that fat in a vew toon episodes..old ones.

  • Yeah, lets ban this historical entertainment and then allow our kids to watch people gutted and raped on CSI or some other network bullshit.

    PC=BS

  • Maldita apologia à guerra. Malditos americanos nojentos. Maldita mensagem subliminar criando cada vez mais pessoas alienadas.

Odeio esse pernalonga tb, parece o capitão américa cartoon, todo nacionalista. Cuzão! heheheh

  • Elmer sure was a fat ass in this cartoon.

    Very interesting though.

  • War Bond Cartoon contains Bugs portraying "black face" characterization of Al Jolson, who was a Jewish entertainer who appeared in 'blackface'....blackface is now regarded as racist.

  • OH LAWD

The funny thing is, you figure that somebody trying to convince Bugs to actually GO to war would be royally screwed.

  • Wow, how times have changed.

It's interesting to see these old

    banned cartoons though.

  • I remember this on an old VHS I once had years and years ago.

  • i was wonderign why this was banned..untill bugs pulled out the al jolson "mammy" make up..now i get why the suits dont show this nowadays.

  • Great animation! Clampett's unit was made up of some of best animators at WB.

  • DAMN!!! Elmer Fudd Was FAT!!! LOLZ!!

  • how about the hauenpheffer king? got that...would appreciate it...it's a quest! Email it to me, thanks!!

  • He's doing an impression of Al Jolson and his "Mammy" routine. It was a BIG Vaudeville act in those days. Even the blacks were entertained by him and he even performed with blacks in blackface. No one saw it as distasteful or derogatory. Those that listen to this rap shit today about victimizing women and "offin' niggas" have absolutely no right to bitch where racism is concerned.

  • right on the money! i agree.

  • Come check out my Bugs Bunny videos!

  • Even African American performers appeared in black face makeup. Black face was often used when a white performer wanted to sing a jazz song from Harlem, or dance like Bojangles Robinson.

Rap/Hip Hop is more degrading of African Americans than black face performing ever was. Everything is "ebonics" littered with poor grammer, 4-letter words, and calling black women "hoes and bitches". Twenty years from now, kids will be asking how Hip Hop could have been so racist.

  • i agree completely

  • you crack meh up dude lol!

  • prove it !

  • I appreciate it for what it was. yeah, its a little racist by our terms, but back then this stuff was used for morale, thanks for posting this. :)

And I dont' wan tto debate with whiny ass people, go get a life, go protest for world hunger, I'm sure naughty cartoons aren't a big issue as people starving all over the world. :)

  • they even used racism with bugs bunny,is nothing safe? T-T

  • A cartoon character doing a minstrel show=racism?Do any of you crybaby, pussified P.C. liberal thought control

thugs know just how fucking STUPID you sound when you say things like that?Idiots!propagandists like you have no business condemning racism when you act just like Joseph Goebells.

  • wtf did bugs just turn black, back then these bitches was so f**king racist i hate shit like this

  • Then it leads into the National Anthem.

  • black face bugs is funny

  • man, that's one catchy toon. I've seen way worse stuff from bugs when it comes to racism, like when he zinged Yosamite Sam during a civil war spoof. Personally I'm split on racism. I'd enjoy it when it's handled in a more comical sense, like Russel Peters, opposed to derogatory uses like Dave Crapelle.

  • a lot of the wb cartoons were racist even into the late 60s...pepe le pew = stinky skunk..and hes french how funny is that? get over yourselves who cares if its racist its still some of the funniest stufff ever produced..get a life and quit ranting about racism ppl can and will say what they like shout em down all u like u are just angry cause ppl are entitled to opinions other than yours and thats way worse than racism in fact its facsist

  • this aint racist

  • im talkin 2 the person who was referin towards me

  • i c u took my message as refering 2 u racist asshole, know this, u dont have 2 know where i live cuz if u say n e racist shit in public i dont have 2 do n e thing 2 u that the black community wouldnt do worse pussy

  • i c y its banned and n e racist dog disagrees reply 2 me personaly and see wat happens 2 u

  • so hey lets ban all raps songs that use derogatory terms towards anyone...there wouldnt be any rap left and that would be a good thing

  • man, just go watch fight club a few times. no need to be an ass here.

  • 'dont be scurry - and don't laugh either cause it's not funny'

  • NO, Bugs is satirizing AL JOLSON, 'Jemini'. Sammy Davis Jr. was still a "child performer" [and virtually unknown] at the time this was circulated in 1942.

  • maybe they should get Warner Bros to do a new bugs bunny cartoon for the Iraq war.

I can c it now.... buy bonds for the Oil War... help bush keep his position that little longer... hell its not like the war has cost u poor bastards enough as it is

  • yea why was that banned?

  • what wrong with it...how about it is racist??? when bugs puts his black make up on he is making fun of black people.

  • You fucking idiot - THAT's NOT RACIST.

  • what was wrong with that?

  • Wow, Bugs Bunny goes in to black face to portray none other than Sammy Davis Jr. I suppose you guys know who that is right?

  • Just shows this country now is so related to Nazis. How can they let kids watch this.

  • its not aired anymore. and these cartoons were meant for adults. all cartoons back the were for adults. it didn't become a kids thing till much later.

  • i dont think so, it seems like they where tryna get kids to understand it or something..

  • What? O.o You think they are trying to get kids to buy war bonds? lol

  • During WWII the government was selling war bonds to the public to be redeemed after the war in order to pay for the massive war effort in Europe and Japan.

Unlike the pacifist slobs and communists who run Hollywood today the entire entertainment industry got into supporting the American war effort.

  • Back then the War was not an option. We had to stop Hitler fomr taking over the world. Now there is a choice to be in Iraq, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Although, I don't agree with the pacifists in this case,

  • You are quite correct.

  • lol

  • disney has used all this american patriotic stuff too.. but kind of more subliminal

  • I'm sorry guys, he was NOT supposed to be a duck, notice the total lack of a BILL for evidence, bt quite frankly I don't what the hell he was supposed to be, He definitely had on what looked liked black-face make-up and the big white lips, but he didn't have the stereotypical manner of speech, sooooo I don't know.

  • Too bad the majority of the U.S. population can't still be this patriotic! Bunch of tree huggin' PC liberals.

  • Amen to that

  • Errr... that's Argentina, dude

  • wtf? Fucking rabbits

  • hmm, for some reason i don't really find it that bad when characters like these talk about something like this. disney however, that threw me for a loop since-well you know its success. maybe it has to do with the fact that disney is supposed to be peaceful and blissful, but warner brothers go all the way out there. hitting with gigantic mallets, dynamites blowing up in faces, yea, that's probably it

  • Didn't some nazis move down to Brazil?

  • why bugs, why a blackface?

  • he is supposed to be a duck (like daffy duck) its nothing racist

  • no, he wasn't supposed to be a duck. But, considering he's a rabbit, it couldn't be racist, anyway. I mean, what color is a rabbit? Besides that, this cartoon aired during World War 2, and was made in support of The United States armed branches. Look at most cartoons and live shows from that time, and you'll see white actors painted up just like Bugs was. They were ignorant, but just like now, not all of them were racist.

  • This wasn't banned when it originally came out, it just isn't shown anymore due to being invalid. It's a commercial selling War Bonds, obviously nobody is going to air it now.

  • It's a bit hard to hear the lyrics, as the audio sounds muffled. That's common in a recording that old, but I wonder if it isn't just my hearing as well.

  • As for you dip sh@&*......We could have just printed cash but we did not (look up fort knox and WHY, no its not what we do now....). This was a time when people realized we could lose everything and wanted to keep that from happening.

  • For those that are asking about the BONDS-Yes it is like giving a loan to the U.S. Gov. and you would get the money back with a small amount of interest. Remember the U.S was in a depression when the war started and this way the government could build the materials needed to keep up the fight.(On another note: all of these and some other, now considered poor taste cartoons has been released by WB and Disney on DVD)

  • Damn, where can I get some war bonds?

  • Besides the blackface, were there any other reasons why this got banned?

  • Tuber that would be the main reason I suppose the reference to Jolson etc singing Mammy

  • Good american war propaganda.I'm a brazilian.

  • Good for you. So when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, did you lose any relatives? And where was the Brazilian Army to help? Oh, that's right...

  • The reference in the cartoon as some have said was Al Jolson. However what was Known as Black Faced comedians and musicans had its origins further back than Jolson. it wasn't racists by standards of the day when Blacked Faced Preformers were around in early days of THEATRE. Try and get past your own rhetoric and look at the history

  • i think it was because the show was promoting war bonds where when you buy them the money goes in to the war and later you get your money back with intrest i think. so that may have been the reason.

  • Thank You for educating these kids Emac45.Back then blacks had no rights or a foot to stand on in the KKKourts to protest this racism. Those of U who wonder why such an issue now,its taken that long for it 2B the law in UR country U love so much.Respect it!!

  • ok maybe im stupid but...I didnt see what was wrong in there...did it have a raciest joke because I couldnt even tell what they were even saying
