I think she left abruptly because somebody was signaling to her that it was time to go, and Letterman was talking about her album - which is usually the last thing brought up in the interviews. Watch her - she is responding to somebody off camera that it is time to go. I do think it was odd to call her a "kid" when she was 29 - and he should have known that before interviewing her. She looked (and still looks) amazing.
