@metalsonic641 Well I guess he has to pull it from a far recess of his brain and it will probably not be the subject he is teaching. For the rest he probably is dependable.
There are in fact two officially licensed versions of Donkey Kong on the C64 one by Atarisoft and one by Ocean. There are dozens more unlicensed and homebrew versions of the game.
@DarkAvatar1313 thanks for sharing this. So the Atarisoft/Nintendo version plays a lot slower than the later Ocean release regardless of the NTSC/PAL settings.
It is this slow because it is using more than the 8 possible sprites that are available on the screen at the same time. So they did have to do raster interrupt programming to be able to get them all on the screen. This takes away some of the speed because one has to wait for the screen refresh line to be at specific placed in order to switch the sprites around without them disappearing on you or flickering...
The Ocean game uses less sprites, smaller sprites and can be faster because of it.
I didn't get ahold of this version until I was 20, I had the Atarisoft version as a kid and loved both of them. I have to admit that the atarisoft version had more of an "80's" feel to it.

incredible...the OCEAN port looks better..."0_0
thought, the best looking port is the NES one, imo:)

@fazares The Ocean port is a lot faster than the Atarisoft version but it uses a lower resolution on the C64.
The Nes one is indeed a good port. The Colecovision also has a good version for it.

I had the NTSC version as a kid, and the speed seems to be the same from what I remember.

AtariSoft (a division of Atari) distributed the original C64 version of DK in 1983.
