But 2 Mio survived. And the high russian losses during battles belong to the fact that the total number of russian soldiers were much higher than the small number of the Germans and that was the main advantage of the the red army against the wehrmacht. To say it cold-blooded & simple: the Germans were not able to shoot all the Russian soldiers because there were so much of them.

After the war the survivors were deported by their own russian people to concentration camps(Gulag) in russia because they surrendered to the Germans. I don't know how many of them died there. The Russians kept a 3,15 mio germans, 35 % died. Civilians were also killed by the madness of the leaders. Stalin e.g. did not alow civilians to escape from stalingrad during battle.

Allied bombing campaign on German industrial centers were very helpful but it couldn't change much. After Stalingrad and Kursk Russians could had owned Germans without any aid. It was clear for US planners. D-day happend not to help Russians but to take an advantage of their victory and to set foot in Europe. Other way France and Italy could be Russified like Poland.

But 2 Mio survived. And the high russian losses during battles belong to the fact that the total number of russian soldiers were much higher than the small number of the Germans and that was the main advantage of the the red army against the wehrmacht. To say it cold-blooded & simple: the Germans were not able to shoot all the Russian soldiers because there were so much of them.

After the war the survivors were deported by their own russian people to concentration camps(Gulag) in russia because they surrendered to the Germans. I don't know how many of them died there. The Russians kept a 3,15 mio germans, 35 % died. Civilians were also killed by the madness of the leaders. Stalin e.g. did not alow civilians to escape from stalingrad during battle.

The wehrmacht advance into ussr was so swift at first because Stalin refused to believe in a german attack. the borders were poorly protected and most of the soviet air force was shot in the ground...
Also don't forget that the 80% of the german troops and principally elite ones were in the eastern front
Finally bear in mind that the whermarcht were supported by romanian, finnish, hungarian, italian, croatian etc divisions, that constituted almost 15% of the eastern axis forces

The Red Army deserves credit for it's heroic struggles against the Nazi invaders, and in that way it saved many lives among the Western Allies. Some of its actions were indeed glorious but, like other armies, it was composed of many individuals, some of whom disgraced themselves and their country's reputation.

Allied bombing campaign on German industrial centers were very helpful but it couldn't change much. After Stalingrad and Kursk Russians could had owned Germans without any aid. It was clear for US planners. D-day happend not to help Russians but to take an advantage of their victory and to set foot in Europe. Other way France and Italy could be Russified like Poland.
