she is doing great she is 5 1/2 feet now after a long fight to keep her alive. she is a monster on eating she has a huge appitite she eats 1 large rat every 10 to 14 days. she does have some stunted growth though but i can't wait to see the size she will get when she is a full adult she is the tamest boa i have except when she is hungry she will bite anything that reaches in her home.
did the burm make it. how is she doing now. I am so glad to here you saved that poor big girl. i can't believe he can't be called on it doesn't matter if you know the head of the animal control he should be arrested for what he had done. but i am glad to here that you saved her. I have two big boas my self 1 i got as a baby that was highly malnurished and skinny you could feel the other side of her threw her bones but after a few days in a nice warm place and a good sized meal and water
Poor Burm! I recently rescued a red tail who's tail was eaten off by a rat. She had this injury for 6 months, with no vet visit. She had a terrible infection through her body, but I explained to the young owner that she would certainly die if she didn't get to a vet, so he handed her over to me (he loved her, but couldn't afford a vet), and I got her fixed up. Now her tail is all healed up and she eats like a monster! Glad you rescued this big gal, she's a real looker!
Yeah I bought a boa a few weeks ago, the guy told me she was healthy aside from eing extremely underweight. I brought her home to find her weezing, what sounds like "sneezing", she yawns more than she should, and she had mites. Some people just want them to be somebody else's problem.
Have you thought of renting or buying a nebuliser? I`ve had to use one on a snake once and the poor thing was so relieved by it. About an hour twice a day I think it was. The snake went in a tub and the tub was then FILLED with aromatic steam, well not steam really, tiny tiny water particles but it looks like steam. This case would benefit from nebulising quite significantly. I just loathe this sort of story. It happens far too often too. Can`t you call the cops and explain the situation?
Its nice that your helping a sick snake get back to health even knowing that u will not b able to keep it. I just wonder why the man that was selling the snakes even had them. snakes are for people who will care for them. most of them r not even hard to care for. u just need hide water heat. not hard. And how is the snake doing now?
Yeah thats RI,I Have had Several burms that have came to me in this Position,I am guessing she is doing better,You need a Humidifier and to raise the heating up to 90 All round,Since she is on AntiBiotics,Baytril I am assuming. You want to feed her as much as possible She will acually hack up the Mucus,Since she ate She should pull out of RI in a month keep her warm its the most important thing,If not it can Turn into Something worse,I raise burms and retics checkout my profile have my 17 footer
It's good that you managed to get her away from the guy. She is REALLY dehydrated and thin, you shouldn't be able it pick up skin like that and you can see that the skin is even folding in places. I had a ball python with a bad respiratory infection, what I did was take some Vicks vapor rub and mix it with steaming hot water inside a coffee mug, and hold the snakes head over the top of it. It sounds stupid but just like people it will open up the nasal passages for snakes too.
Yes, she is thin, but after that rat she looks so much better ! She is so hungry she snaps at ME ! But I don't blame her, who knows how long she hasn't eaten for.... I just leave her alone if she's hissy, and try another day. [ Because I am having problems giving her the shots - she tries to escape while the needle is in her.... she is VERY strong ! I am hoping she'll pull through..... ]
This is awful! How could he have let such a beautiful animal get so ill? I really hope she pulls through. Thumbs up to you for taking her under your wing. Maybe a slightly warm bath will help to release the mucus. My Ball had a chest infection and mucus when i got her and i brought her out where there were high and low surfaces. She would drape over things and hang so the mucus could drain out. Might be helpful for you. Goodluck!!! Please keep us all posted. xx
All his animals are sick..... Fortunately, I hear he is selling them all. And as for this one, he hasn't called ONCE since Oct. 27th tp see how this poor animal is doing ! I called twice - once to let him know she was doing bad, and again to ask for help to feed her. (she is too strong for me alone) He never returned my calls.... ** Update: she ate a rat, and is doing better ! Waiting for antibiotics to come in at the vet, I an starting a 1 month-course of shots.
if u need to get food in her, have u tried useing a suringe and baby food, like beef or chicken, trust me it works, i rescued a green anaconda, with a eye infection, would not eat, skin and bones when i got her, so i gave her baby food through a suringe, after weeks she started gettn some meat on her, she lost her eye, but happy to say shes doing well today, eats like a champ, oh ya she also had mites, water blisters and her scales just fell off when handled, but is doing good today!
Wow, that sure sounds like a lost cause, poor Anaconda.. Glad 2 hear you saved her from certain death, props to you & much respect ! However on ours, the sheath of where her tongue is in, it's VERY swollen, so she gagged & choked like a human having a seizure - mouth wide open & all - when tried to feed small juvie rat. Only way would be a tube in her stomach... 'Cause her mouth has pus pieces & mucus, there's bacteria & obviously pain..
try useing a suringe and baby food, beef or chicken, trust me it works, if u need anything else, just ask ive beeb doing this for 27 yrs, seen it all, cured them all!
Yes I know, it is making my kids and I extremely sad to be so helpless... :( We have grown to love her so much... She has her 2nd vet appt. on Friday.. we'll see.
I know, unfortunately it won't do any good - the guy knows the people @ Animal Control on a friendly basis; he even told cops:"go ahead, take them, I'll have all my animals back by tomorrow!" And it's true... At only 18lbs, she is skin & bones ! I have a hard time finding muscle mass to give her the shots ! And she isn't eating either..not even force-fed. :( I am at a loss, and desperate to have her live!
Thanks *Devin*, however I just got back from the vet today, and I got 12 shots to give her, ointment for her Uveitis and Keratosis on her eyes, but I was told she may be septic ... (septicemia is an infection that spread into the blood. We'll see if she makes it, she is on HIGH heat now, and lots of love. As for the owner, I'd love RESCUE INK to knock on his door.....

When she next sheds you are going to be finding some nasty stuff around her head that had came off with the new layer of skin, trust me.

Oh.....ew, really ?? None of mine have ever been sick, so I really don't know what to expect... Thanks for the 'warning' ! :)

Yeah, any buildup around her snout is going to come off with her next shed.
