@veraberry I'm tired of arguing. We have our own beliefs. We're not going to change each others opinions. I'll help you out with this. All that needs to be done is focusing on God and His word (the Bible) and ask for the Holy Spirit to lead us in our endeavors. God meets us where we are and leads us from there if we open our hearts to Him. You're at the level that you're at with Him and I'm at the level that I'm at with Him. We just have to accept that or just have to agree to disagree.
You are right, God's meets us where we are. He knows that there are some things we cannot bear at our level in faith and will reveal them as we grow. The best thing for us to remember is that there is always more to learn, once we try to think we know it all, we stunt our growth.
There are some things however that are evidently wrong and we are asked to share the truth and hope that one hears it.

Because keeping a meticulous Sabbath cannot make you righteous the way grace through faith can. Hebrews 4 explains that we can now enter HIS rest because He is in the 7th day right now of rest and now every day can be holy. We are in a new day of rest and that's what you keep missing. As for Ellen G. White, she never claimed to be a prophetess. I'm an Adventist. I haven't read much of what she has written, but I don't discredit her. I don't believe that it would be right for people to take her work over the Bible, which is something that she never meant for people to do. Her work is a lesser light leading to the greater light (the Bible). The Bible is very understandable if you allow God, or the Holy Spirit, to lead you, but it's never right to take anything over the Bible.
When you're reading the Hebrew or Greek, you have to really understand the language and context. When you're taking texts from the Bible you can't take texts here or there or here a little and there a little, you have to take the Bible as a whole otherwise you won't understand what's going on.

@Myhopeisinhim Check the Greek on "hell" here and you will find a different term (Tartarus) than the "hell" of destruction (Gehenna). Tartarus is emblematic of darkness, as the context of the verse demonstrates. Hades, a third term translated "hell," likewise already exists and all who die go there. It is "the grave" and is the Greek equivalent for sheol. According to Jesus, hell fire comes "at the end of the world" (Mat 13:39, 40).

Yes, the physics is being explained in ways we can understand but it is clear of two things: the man is in torment, he is not turning to ashes, and he is quite aware. Luke 16 is a whole thought about people who are selfish and greedy with the goods God has given to them.

seventh day of the week is the Sabbath blessed and sanctified, which is Saturday. The 4th commandment from The Creator God Almighty wrote with His finger in Stone says to Remember it to keep it Holy. Jesus came and said He didn't come to destroy the Law nor prophets but to fulfill it, and He is Lord of The Sabbath,.Paul says there remains a rest for the people of god and it would be no other day but the seventh day from creation. I referred to the fear of judgment and of punishment as using it all your want if it will encourage people to repent but what I should have added is that FIRST you must bring the gospel. As for Ellen G. White, she never claimed to be a prophetess. I'm an Adventist. I haven't read much of what she has written, but I don't discredit her. I don't believe that it would be right for people to take her work over the Bible, which is something that she never meant for people to do. Her work is a lesser light leading to the greater light (the Bible). The Bible is very understandable if you allow God, or the Holy Spirit, to lead you, but it's never right to take anything over the Bible.

When you're reading the Hebrew or Greek, you have to really understand the language and context. When you're taking texts from the Bible you can't take texts here or there or here a little and there a little, you have to take the Bible as a whole otherwise you won't understand what's going on.

Tartarus is emblematic of darkness, as the context of the verse demonstrates. Hades, a third term translated "hell," likewise already exists and all who die go there. It is "the grave" and is the Greek equivalent for sheol. According to Jesus, hell fire comes "at the end of the world" (Mat 13:39, 40).

@brianhyde63 It is so heinous in God's site for someone to do those things that He wants to separate Himself completely from them. That's what hell is for not a sadistic place to hurt people. It is a place void of God and that is the fire of hell and the torment because we are created in His image. We are only complete in Him and without Him, we are without hope and inner peace. We need these cruel acts to be atoned for in His site and HE DID THAT AT THE CROSS FOR US!! He paid a great price.

@brianhyde63 That lying cuts me to the quick and makes me want to cry. I have had people steal the few little things that I have worked hard to obtain and cannot replace. It hurts me. I have been in relationships where a man told me he loved me only to break my heart. That sin hurt me greater than all the others combined. I have hurt people through my sin. My sin has caused people pain. That's why God hates it. He is the complete opposite of that.

@brianhyde63 It is not me your upset with. It's Him and His clear judgments that He has explained over and over. Sin is not the same as a child innocently sticking his hand in the light socket or running away from mommy. Sin is only imputed where there is a clear understanding of the law and someone who breaks it. Sin is pure hatred. I have had a plate full of it through certain people of late and their cruelty; people who think nothing of lying, for example daily and believing it.

@brianhyde63 The god you are making up in your head doesn't exist because you don't understand sin at all. That is the part that makes your whole point crumble like a house of cards. Secondly, you are misrepresenting the position that I have clearly explained here over and over again. God's everlasting punishment (Matt 24:46, Rev. 14:11 ) and wrath (2 Cor 5:11, Rom 1:18-21) are simply who He is in light of evil, hatred and cruelty of man which you apparently think is unfair.

@veraberry I will answer each of the scriptures you use to promote your misguided theology. Right now I wiant to correct something I said in a previous post. I referred to the fear of judgment and of punishment as using it all your want if it will encourage people to repent but what I should have added is that FIRST you must bring the gospel. If you have to use the fear of hell to get people into the Kingdom, then in a sense hell becomes your gospel.

Yes, read it in your Bibles and you will find these exact words and more besides such as:. "God was reconciling the WORLD to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation" 2 Corinthians 5:19.

veraberry God's love and mercy for the sinner never fails. Whilst God hates sin and must and will punish those who have perpetuated sin He loves the sinner and has his best interest at heart. His justice never compromises his love. In your theology there is in fact no real justice for the sinner at all and no real love for the sinner at all.The god you perceive of is the same as the pagan gods of old conceived by wicked men as having fiendish pleasure in the death of the wicked.

@veraberry As a Social Worker I learned that the Children Law in the UK has a fundamental principle by which all decisions around the child must be informed -- the "best interest of the child". Who made this law? Man. Is it a just law? Yes. Is it a loving law? Yes. Do you think God who is the author of all just human laws does less than this in His judgment of the sinner? You obviously do but I don't.

@veraberry Which means that it must, in some way, have the good of those in hell as part of its rationale. Universalists feel that one potential danger in traditional theologies of hell is that while they make much of God justice and anger they appear to be incompatible with his love and, as a result, they divide up the unity of God's nature. God has taught human parents and society at large that when they punish their child it must be done in such a way as to be retributive and corrective.

@veraberry Typically they think that God's divine nature cannot be divided up into conflicting parts in such a way that some of God's actions are loving (eg, saving sinners) while others are just and full of anger (eg, hell). They see all of God's actions as motivated by 'holy love'. Everything God does is holy, completely just, and completely loving. So whatever hell is about it must be compatible not simply with divine justice but also with divine love.

God pours out His mercy, but He also pours out His wrath.' The implication is that universalists overplay divine love and forget that God is also holy and just. Right? Wrong. Christian universalists have a lot to say about God's holiness, justice, and even his wrath.

This is what the scripture teaches; not the evil that you are teaching This is my point. Your perception of retributive judgment is conceived of in hell -- a demonic hell! As a consequent you misrepresent God.

The Universalist says that part of hell is that God brings the sinner through a process of suffering that is calculated to bring before them the horror of their sin and its effect on others and to continue this process as long as it takes

These guys were not concerned about eschatology as much as they were concerned about real genuine righteousness that they had received by the power of God that they named charis and we call grace. They are trying over and over again to describe that experience and ongoing reality in their lives and that is what Peter is talking about.

The verse in question was based upon the text which Peter immediately quotes 1 Peter 4:18 If it shall be with extreme difficulty that the Christians shall escape from Jerusalem, when the Roman armies shall come against it with the full commission to destroy it, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?
