Handball MUST be intentional for handball to be given and the handball infringement area is from the tip of the fingers to the shoulder joint with the boundary being a vertical line from the armpit upwards so any contact to the left (from a frontal view) is a handball.

As a football/soccer "veteran", especially when teaching, you should at least use the correct terminology. A kick-off does not restart in "midfield", but rather on the centre mark at the halfway line.
