I loooove Miss Sarah. What always tickled me was her speaking voice vs. that singing voice. Cigarette smoking notwithstanding, I've never seen such breath control. Forever Sarah Vaughan.
This woman has a romantic, mystic, and very mysterious side to her singing and she makes you want to listen, and just wonder what is going through her mind when she sings the songs that she sings also did she ever really know how truly divine that she was through and through not just her singing she is greatly missed and loved, and no one should ever have anything to say bad about someone they did not know as a person so please be kind. Thank you
Sassy Sarah Vaughn, with a voice smooth as silk. She was one of the greatest jazz singers that gave the world beautiful, soothing music that could tame the tazmanian devil.
Sarah's vocal cords took her down to a baritone range all the way up to soprano with all different qualities as she conveyed the meaning of ever word. She was a jazz performer like no other. And those three lungs of air that she controlled to phrase the music with her own signature. Johnny Mathis, who is credited with having the greatest hit of Misty, mentions Sarah's and other's names of those who preceeded him. Each version is worthy of being in the music hall of fame!
They say nothing's perfect- but I'm sorry- her voice was........ silk & satin just flows from her when she sings. Thank you Mom for giving me my ear & my love of music. Sara was one of my Mom's faves & even when I was a liitle boy & she would play her records on Sunday afternoon, Sara's voice would stand out to me. It was an instrument. My Mom was a big fan of Frank, Ella, Billy E., Sammy, & Joe Williams & Tony Bennett. I like them all, but Sara's my fav!!!!
This is nice, but does not compare to Dakota Staton. I still have the vinyl of Ms. Staton's version from 1959 and it is beautiful. Dakota was in control of every note.
While I can recognize her talent, I don't care for her style. I prefer Ella's. No knock to Ms. Vaughn; she takes the song in a different direction than I want to go.
@MNJetter Great song, and a great performance from Sara. Try to get the version of a Spanish group called "Lone star" He was the voice and played piano also. Great and different version His name was Pedro Genè. You wont regret
Sassy had a beautiful vocal tone, which deepened and mellowed over time. Her mastery in phrasing a ballad allowed her to extract deep emotion, even from a well worn standard such as this Errol Garner classic. I found the last decade and a half of her work the mosty rewarding of all. She matured into the greatest Jazz vocalist of the late 70s and early 80s. When she died in 1990, I was shocked, because it seemed that she had defied time and would live forever. I suppose, in a way, she has.
Sarah knew she had cancer and was supposed to die in months in October 1989, the day she should open at the NYC Blue note. I was there, she did not do the show and appeared next day, obviously disturbed but nice! -, but we did not know why at that time. Here, a magic and sublime moment of The Divide, doing her utmost, besides everything. Art is bigger than everything. And also was Sarah!
A true great. I love it!! the band are great nothing good makes television now thank god for u tube telly is dead. Its nice to see a woman singing with soul emotion and gusto what a vocal range. Quality
the divine one-we love you madly-sarah could sing her heart out on this tune-and she uses dynamics so beautifully here-the whole presentation is subdued, but just gorgeous-this is an example of her real power in the lower range section---there has never been a singer who could hit those notes-wow-zken in california
the trio she has here fits around 85 as well. There is a lovely concert of her in Paris called in the City of Lights. George Gaffney was her pianist throughout the latter part of the 80s
¡¡¡maravillosa!!! gracias!!!
