I started a band that makes stuff that's meaningful lyrically, and the music can have some dark themes. However, I am not good enough to super-brutal Death Metal.

even if people dont play death metal they should learn a couple songs just to gain stamina, in either drums, guitar, or bass. this guys flipped the metal world upside down and changed the genre forever like it or not. just because its fast progressive and technical it doesnt meant that it doesnt have the heart and soul of the players. listen to classic rock and see your roots.

The only thing I don't like about death metal is the scene. There are many copy cat bands out there that think their the shit... Cryptopsy is on par with classical music and the same goes to Cannibal Corpse. Many don't realize theres a huge difference between technique and playing from the heart.

Well said about people don't understand it. Even when I heard a few metal bands, I knew that I shouldn't judge something you're not too familiar with. There were death metal songs that I loved right away though. Then again, I can't give an opinion about rap for example, cause I'm not familiar with the good stuff. (Since when is mainstream a good example of the genre?)

I listened to moderate rock and country music till the age of 15, then I got my first guitar and learned that the music I was listening to did not take alot of "knowhow". A friend let me listen to his Venom album, I was hooked! Started my first death metal band in 1991, and at the age of 38, am still playing DM, this genre has outlasted a lot of fads, hair bands, grunge, alternative, etc. and just continues to progress!

i really like this docu... im not into death metal.... so this was very interesting and gives it good look at the music from an artist-side.... but i can honestly say i never thougt that "its just noise" always knew its hard to pull off....

I dont think he meant beyond as in better, I think he meant beyond in terms of raw simplicity, the extremity of Brutal Truth is not as based in technicality or musicianship as modern death, more in primitive experimentality, which even many death metal musicians may would consider more "out there" or alternative in a sense, because the technique is not as apparent.
