  • I can't find the one I remember best. I found the ones from 1993, which I do remember well, but I remember one from before that that I can't seem to find??

  • A lot better than the 2008 version

  • The theme song says Sesame Street, but I say it's not.

  • I grew up with the blocks intro, and contrary to many of you, I HATE the original. It's dull and the kids' Boston accents are very disturbing in that intro. Although I grew up with the blocks one, my favorite is the early 2000s intro.

  • wow, way stuff up the opening, bring back the original, or at least change the song back to the original.

  • This version of the theme song got an update for Season 42.

  • Bring back the blocks intro!!!!!!

  • The one from season 35 (the one I grew up with) is wwwwwaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better. Season 35's intro was much more child-appropriate.

  • @Basketballfan226 I think this intro is also rather child-appropriate, especially compared to the Season 38 intro!

  • OK, I admit, I STILL like this theme much better than the 2007-2009 version. Sounds a bit more "kid friendly"

  • It was taken from episode 4187

  • bring back th eold song!

  • Is it me, or is this opening to spic and spam compared to the mid-90s intro?

  • I Am A Fan Of Sam And Friends And Sesame Street

  • The Boring begginning

  • guess wat poeple im 18 years old and i still watch elmo no lie :]

  • great,wonderful,sesame street,suite

  • no lie but but wat u wrote dont make any sense no lie :(

  • Again Happy belated 40th

  • I can't believe how much the Sesame Street titles have changed! I'm from the UK and Sesame Street hasn't been shown over here for 10 years. I like the updatedversion of the theme.

  • @Matt571 Me too! I'm also from England. Last time I saw this show it was on Channel 4. Back when I was 9! That's nearly 10 years ago!

  • @futureartist2013 Yeah, I am surprised Channel 4 stopped showing Sesame Street. The main difference with the programme now is that Kermit no longer appears, it is something to do with him being owned by Disney. He was of course the only muppet to appear in both the Muppet Show and Sesame Street.

  • @Matt571 Disney got ownership of the Muppets in 2004

  • @futureartist2013

I didn't realise it was only in 2004. I read that Kermit stopped appearing in Sesame Street in around 1999/2000.

  • 36 people don't know how to get to Sesame Street.

  • do u know how

  • G uy g

  • bith ur gay dumass u shoul slap ur self and regret wat u should dam!!!

  • 36 people wish they'd just can it already

  • SESAME STREET WILL NEVER DIE:D YAAAAAY

  • Oh my gosh.. and im seriously disappointed by the new intro of Sesame Street. it's really bad IMO, the theme has changed a bit, and it's waaaayyy to colourful

  • the intro is just not the same :( but. you know the sad thing is.. IM 16 AND I STILL LOVE THIS SHOW

  • + assessing the shows number by having the #by it.

Still Big Bird and Gang Regular Elmo

    - New Song still sucks, Great in the 1st 3 seconds

Since when Should they Make Cheeto Flavored Cookies? I mean look at Cookie Monster! He's Disgusting And I love the Charictor!

And What is up with Puberty Elmo? Why does he have a sheep with him? Did anyone miss that song by AC-DC uhh Bob Rivers?

Not as good as the original. they should go back.

  • @Lottech96:

    1. Cookie eats anything, even if his favorite is cookies. That's why he's often used to promote healthy eating habits.

    2. That's Murray, a new Muppet introduced a few seasons back. He was known for asking "The Word on the Street" (aka The Word of the Day) and now, with his spanish-speaking lamb--the "Murray Has a Little Lamb"--he learns spanish words whilst going to schools to learn how to use these new words.

  • @TherealRNO Yeah ok but Look at that he has yellow dust on his fur!! ewwww!

since when do cookies have yellow dust on them?

  • @Lottech96: Those were CHALK cookies and besides, Cookie Monster--despite his perchant for cookies--eats anything. From healthy food (he's used as the Street's "health advisor" when needed) to even inedible items (a computer, kitchenware, and even Kermit himself breifly when the actual puppet was first created), Cookie is basically the monster equivalent of a living garbage disposal.

  • @Lottech96 Number 1 New Song Dont Suck Number 2 Thats CHALK Cookies Dont You See The Kids Drawing With CHALK! 3 Thats Murray From Murray Has a Little Lamb.

  • oh of course this is the theme song i mostly watched...Wow the theme they got now is more kiddie pop/hip hop style. BTW I love all sesame street themes there cool AND ILL ALAWYS WATCH SESAME STREET I ONCE WATCHED THE SESAME STREET MOVIE WHERE ELMO GOT LOST IN THIS DURTY PLACE IT WAS SO COOL I LOVE SESAME STREET WOOT WOOT !!! XD

  • @antlantis7 You should probably stop watching it so often and try some regular schooling. Your grammar and spelling are terrible.

  • @Studmeister17 i know. and i go to school regular EVERY day duh ? im not in middle or high school where they teach 'proper grammar' i hate u

  • can you tell how to get to OH MY GOD!

  • Also this version is also going to be on Season 41 as well which starts on September 27, 2010.

  • (0:42)

    That's gonna hurt come morning!

  • I love the new theme! Very catchy!

  • i saw one of these "new" episodes from around 2000 i think, it was 2 years ago. It took me 10 minutes to realise, this is one of the best childrens programs ever. I'm 12 years old, live in Sweden. It IS amazing!

  • i like this new sesame street opening

  • anyone notice berts not in the opening considering he's a maor character

  • @metalmadness00 He is. He's driving one of the cars toward the start.

  • @metalmadness00 he has good sense not too.

  • @metalmadness00: Well, Bert and Ernie were essentially retired after the death of Jim Henson, because although Steve did perform Ernie for small bits every few years, his demands as Kermit and Rizzo--and a return as Wembley once the Fraggle film gets a full head of steam--have taken Ernie's place. As for Bert, he was essentially regulated to background status (ditto for Grover) once Frank Oz left the Street to seek other endeavors.

  • All the original people are still there too, right? Bob, Luis, Maria, Gordon, Susan, all of whom I grew up with and whom I consider teachers. They're still on, right?

  • @ExplorerDS6789: Maria, Luis, and Gordon are still around visually. Bob and others do promotional work for the series, even if they make rare appearances these days.

  • I think this opening is better than the 2006-2008 opening. Looks like they're trying to bring the Street back to its roots. 'Bout time, I'd say.

I have to admit, I have a crush on Leela!

  • is this the new intro for the 40th season of sesame street i like this intro too

  • count is awesome! i want him to come back!

  • @MFISACB: Well, he can only return if Jerry Nelson's health allows it. Same with his roles as Gobo and Majory The Trash Heap for the Fraggle film.

  • my gf swears she saw 2012 today on sesame street, during the camping episode

i cant seem to find the whole show

  • 2012? that makes no sense

  • psychadelic uber abstract chaos - good for brain? hmmm!

  • This is my favorite version of the theme song, next to the Calypso version. With the use of live intruments, this is better than the one that came before it.

  • Can you tell how to get to seasame street

  • just think about the boxset wow 40 years

  • @anarchyvol1 Yeah wow!

  • @anarchyvol1 Right, and they really have made 4,187 episodes.

  • Season 40 End Tomorrow!

  • The music seems to be arranged differently than that of the 2007 version.

Would love to see official videos of the 1992-1998 and the 1998-2001 versions

  • No-it's staying in NY.

  • I Didn't Get To See Sesame Street Episode 4205 On January 1, 2010, I Have I Missed It Upload It, Please!

  • i like the old version of sesame street and now they fucked it up but im surprised its still going and the 40th season well thats fucking thats unbeleivable

  • @themexicancrew4

    total agree

  • sooo much old memory on this song.lolll still luv it

  • Im a 15 year old and I still think seasame street is cool

  • @503LaosBoy i know where you are comin from brother, i 15, ......... I LOVE PBSKIDS AND PBSKIDSGO!!!!!

  • @503LaosBoy i know where you are comin from brother, i 15, ......... I LOVE PBSKIDS AND PBSKIDSGO!!!!!

  • Bert and Ernie should back on the show!!!!!!!!

  • sesame street sif for everyone young and old. dosent matter how old you are

  • Sesame Street will moving to ABC TV Melbourne studios in Southbank from 2010

  • My dad was about 6 when it first aired, but I'm seriously impressed. 4,187 episodes in 40 years, shown in 120 countries. It's unfortunate that most of the creators aren't here. (I remember watching this show along with much more older shows, years ago.)

  • @SPAD110

Wow, your dad's not very old.

  • @degree7 Yeah.

  • @SPAD110 Actually Its Going To Start In A New Contry So Now Its 121 Contries

  • This show has been on forty years? so then my mom was eleven when it first came on.

  • Looks like you learned some basic math from the show. But not the history of this amazing show. It was better with Jim Henson though.

  • this was uploaded on my 18th b-day

  • That's very interesting, man.

So in that case... Happy Birthday and Happy Thanksgiving, man.

  • 40 years i dont believe it

  • I like this version much better than the 2007 version. This version's a lot more "live", whereas the other was hip-hoppy.

  • I agree!

  • Oscar, the Count, telly monster, harry monster, fat blue, and big bird are now probably off the show. It's all "abby" and "elmo".

  • well, not big bird at least

  • @wyecee: Well, Bird, Oscar, Count, and Telly are still around, but Mr. Johnson (Fat Blue) and Herry Monster are pretty much gone now that Frank Oz has departed from the show, taking Bert and Grover with him.

  • that explains why elmo a shit load of air time when Kevin Clash leaves elmo will be used less as well

  • @metalmadness00: Well, Kevin doesn't just perform Elmo. He performs a lot of background characters and probably a few new ones, too. Along with directing the show, that means that he has a lot on his plate and for all we know, he--like Carroll Spinney in regards to having another performer certainly perform Big Bird and maybe Oscar The Grouch--is prepping another up-and-comer to take over when he cannot perform as much as he used to.

  • @TherealRNO I don't know why they couldn't make the real Bert and Ernie go on adventures instead of the clay figures.

  • @wyecee: For the same reason they didn't use the Abby Muppet for the Fairy School sequences. Using puppets taxes a Muppeteer, whereas CGI done by computer takes less work and is done easier.

  • @TherealRNO Overall SS is not the real SS you recognize any more. I wish they'd at least do more makeovers of other older clips like the "10 tiny turtles on the telephone", and more "Jouney to Ernie" instead of this borning "Elmo's World", or Guy Smiley.

  • @wyecee: Well, Guy Smiley went out with the 80's and as for the format of the show, as times and tastes change, so does the show. With that said, the producers tried to do a show without Elmo's World after the Tickle-Me Elmo toys lost steam in popularity, but when a panel of kids watched it, their expectation to see Elmo in his short 15 minutes of fame ended up making Elmo's World a permanent fixture on the show.

  • @TherealRNO They Said Abby In Cartoon Does Things You Cant Do With Muppets!

  • @TherealRNO Well Their Still On The Show But Not That Much I Saw Johnson In Sesame Street In Season 40 Once It Was A Surprize!

  • Sesame Street is in the ghetto

  • I'm sad they don't revive the Poland version ... Beata and Bazyli was great characters!

    Anyway, Intro looks really good!

  • >:( TO ALL YOU ELMO DISSERS

  • Cool bright colors, Big Bird with friends, and new intro with classic theme! Loving it!

  • I gotta admit; I'm glad they retired the 2007-2009 intro and replaced it with this version. It just looks more bright and kid-friendly, and the theme sounds cooler than the 2007 variation. Plus, it's got more Big Bird in it than the previous version!

  • Personally, i think this is a pretty good version. I don't care for the new music style, but the graphics are great.

  • I would have expected a retro style opening for the 40th. Another missed opportunity.

  • 100 rating

  • Oh. Now I see. What about my poitn about Ernie's hair, Marshal? Watch your "Shake Your Head One Time" video, then this. It's better like this, right? Not like it's been shocked by an electricuter.

  • En cual canal puedo ver sesame street en los Estados Unidos?

  • As examples, Abby & Super Grover are especially CGI'd. Does that mean that with the new brighter colors--for instance, Telly's pinker fur, Oscar's bright green fur, and Count's even lighter purple face--the puppets may be getting slowly phased out for CGI?

  • green screen is not the same as CGI.

  • thespiansmc: I know this, but in this and in Abby's added segment--Fairy School--Abby IS in CGI to grant rest to her performer's arms. Plus in this opening Abby and Grover are in CGI (Abby's flying & using magic and Grover's "superpowers"). That's why I worry about the real puppets (the same applies to Ernie and Bert when they're merely used in claymation segements nowadays).

  • FYI, none of the characters in this opening are in CGI. They're all puppets against a green screen.

  • @TherealRNO They could have gotten updated muppets

  • @abehammy: They do. Murray and Abby may be the newest recruits, but they're popular with the show prime demographic, as is Elmo (which is partially due to the fact that Kevin Clash is director on the show these days, following the success of "Elmo's World").

  • With it all looking CGI'd here, does this mean that the Street will stop using puppets mostly as we continue down the road?

  • Actually, it seems they re-done most of the characters for the next season. You can see in the this. Telly's fur is more pink, Count's cape is purple & not green with lots of colors on the inside, Elmo looks like when he first started Elmo's World, which I like better than the current one where he has more fur, Ernie's hair doesn't look like it's had an electric shock, & Zoe looks like a boy.

  • Telly's fur is like that no doubt because of the lighting on set. And the Count has a purple cap whenever he's up against the green screen, 'cause other wise his cape would blend into the background.

  • Yeah, that Zoe does look freaky. I like the version she had before she had the tutu. Like when she always said "Don't joke me!"

  • Jethro, Kidzrul, and others: Go to New York City. The West Side district.

  • the changes aren't that bad, but at some points it sounds a little like kids bop...

  • Stupid new characters, at least the theme has always been the same.

Get rid of this Murray and Abbycadabby bullcrap. Stick with the classics.

  • BrawlMoptop: You know, that's what those of the 1969-1970's generation said about us in the 80's when Elmo first appeared.

  • ...and look what happened.

  • Point taken.

  • Hypno: You do know this IS the Street's official channel so the talent--including Kevin Clash (Elmo), who does direct the show these days--could be reading these comments of yours.

  • Who thumbed my comment down? The Sesame cast could be reading these comments, since this IS the Street's official YouTube account. That said, please keep comments and responses family-friendly and appropriate, thank you.

  • LOL You sound like Sam the Eagle. Let's have decency here!

  • AWE! i remember sesame street! i love it!

  • Love it! The Muppets look fantastic these days, especially Ernie and Count! Where's Prairie Dawn and Snuffleupagus, though? I love that Murray and Ovejita are finally in the opening.

  • i loved this show when i was a kid

  • wow they totally changed it I liked the old one better

  • This show was way better when I was a kid...

  • SEASON 40! AHHH! WOW!

  • What's the kid in the red shirt looking at? 0:42

  • does grover really have to get slammed into a pole at the end?

  • LastOfTheCookies: Super Grover always crashes into stuff. He's like a helpful yet bumbling version of Superman.

  • @LastOfTheCookies At least he's not getting slammed by one

  • the song should of stayed the same

idc about how the times have changed

    original is better

  • Not as catchy as the original

  • Amazing, already season 40, I remember watching this show 6 or 7 years ago with my eyes just stuck to the t.v. watching this. :P

  • ahhh a 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street how does the time fly?

  • OMG I LOVE THE TITLE SONG ITS ALL JAZZED UP. i loved this show when i was little i always looked forward to it.

    40th season? wow! congrats!

  • I want to go, but nobody ever really tells me how to get there. Seriously...if an agent to the stars discovered that I was good enough to be a client during one of my community theatre performances, I would request at least a guest spot on Sesame Street. Perhaps even a permanent place on the ol' Sesame Street payroll. Puppeteer, recuring role as a human who interacts with muppets, maybe even become a muppet...I've made up my mind 100%. I want to be on this show at least once before I die.

  • How DO you get to sesame street?

  • TAKE THE A TRAIN!

actually im completely confused. i want to go to sesame street.

  • i miss the old sesame stree ;(

  • Me too.

  • This is the official SS youtube profile! Not by a person!

  • They changed the song...

    I liked the old one

    Best kids show ever

  • The chalk effects sort of remind of some used in the 1992-1998 version of the theme.

  • Pretty cool. Though for the 40th season, it would have been nice if the original theme song was used; give the kids a sense of what everything used to be like. I like that the show is still showing Muppet segments from the 70s. Some of them are too funny.

  • Yeah, the show doesn't often air the 1970s Muppet segments; usually it's one or two a year, most likely due to now they only have 26 episodes a season. They DO re-air quite a bit of 1980s and early 1990s skits, too

  • It's a shame they only do 26 episodes per season. That is a very sall amount for a weekday show. I know repitition is good for young children. But there are kids in Grade 1 and 2 who also watch Sesame Street, and I am sure having the same shows run every month eventually gets boring. It's still great that they air some old segments once in a blue moon though.

  • And BTW, does anyone have the End Credits for Season 40? If so, please be sure to upload them for me and everyone else.

  • What a nice opening to present the 40th Season of Sesame Street!

  • i miss the old sesame street though. . .

i remember when i was a baby i used to love barney now i hate barney

    *sigh* good times. . .

  • Times have changed, cast members (and puppets) have come and gone, various segments and stories have been tried and tested, but the magic and educational value are still there forty years on.

Happy 40th Season to Sesame Street!

  • Loved seeing live kids in the opening again (just like Old School that way!)...Great job merging live action, sidewalk drawings, and Muppets into one sequence...especially when more of the Muppet cast got to appear. And Cookie Monster eating the cookie drawing? Priceless!
