We cannot turn away from the tragedies of the past. But we CAN do something to help heal the wounds occurring all around the world in this moment. We NEED to do something... - L
In memory of our beloved brother Steve Biko who was brutally murdered on this day 1977 at the hands of the Apartheid regime. Gone but never forgotten. R.I.P
Eu adoro muito esta música, ela fala do aparthaid, e no filme o Grito de Liberdade o homem de quem a música fala é Steven Biko - Que lutou pelo aparthaid no continente africano. E neste filme Steven Biko foi interpetrado por denzel Washington
In eighth grade, I did a speech on Steven Biko. I never would have heard of him had it not been for Peter Gabriel. Can art change the world? Hell yes. Ronald Reagen and the people who ruled the world at that time would have preferred to sweep the whole story under the rug, but PG, Gil Scott Heron and others spread the word, and apartheid was done away with. I ain't gonna play sun city, dammit : ).
Where is Gabriel's song about the quasi-state that still practices Apartheid? Apartheid South Africa's ally: Israel! US tax dollars actually flow to this anachronistic terror state! Apartheid South Africa was not bad at all compared to Israel - did you know that Apartheid South Africa shared something with the US? Yes, and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION problem - guess all that BS about the poor ol' Blacks was a little overstated. Meanwhile Israel gets away with ethnic cleansing and murder.
@Hyperakusis1973 while the song has become a stirring tribute to one of the many crusaders against Apartheid in South Africa, i also remember it being played at the ending scene in the "Evan" episode of Miami Vice (which Evan is killed, and Crockett tries to keep his composure after he dies)
This recording is pure genius. Thank you.

You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher
