The dell has the same 2.4ghz core 2 duo as my Mac does. At the time my pro had a 250 gb 52000 rpm hd and the dell had a 280. My mac had 4gbs of ram and the dell has 3gbs.
In defense of the Dell, what processor is in it? Just because that Dell compares that way, doesn't mean all Dells do. This is a completely biased comparison. There is no grounds for comparison when the specs are that varied. The OSes cannot compared solely on speed of the boot-up. The specs of the laptop have much to do with that. If that Dell had a Quad Core i7 clocked at 5 ghz and had 8100 kb of cache, obviously that Dell would have smashed the Mac. No comparison, but I'm guessing it did not.
Uhm, the macbook pro 13 inch is a performance computer, the inspiron is like Dell's bottom of the line laptop. A MUCH more fair comparison would be a macbook pro vs an xps upgraded to about the same price.
@magicdude44 the 13 inch macbook is not a performance computer and it would not stack up against an XPS... the 13 inch macbook is apple's bottom line, im sure both laptops have similar specs...
@tighmir This is the 13 inch macbook pro though, not the regular macbook. Look at the price difference between the inspiron (average around 400 dollars) and the 13 inch pro (STARTING at 1199$). No, those are not tech specs, but for example, I could get an XPS 17 for around that price, and it would blow the 13 inch macbook out of the water.
@magicdude44 the price doesn't really matter in this case... not many computers can stack up to mac so is it really ever a fair comparison? and yes it is left up to interpretation... I am an apple person, ever since I got my first iMac in 1998. So this is not me downgrading it, but it is fair for what he is trying to do. Obviously, the better built computer is going to win or it wouldn't even be a test...
@tighmir But you can't really just do a "PC vs Mac" comparison, it's not fair. There are ALOT more variants of PC, because SO many companies make PCs, and they are much more customizable than Macs, which only have a few variants and are only made by Apple. The Macbook Pro 13 inch is the pro version of macbook. The XPS, is the "pro" version of a dell computer, so the comparison should be a macbook 13 inch, to an XPS 13 inch, with the same tech specs. Then it would be fair. That's all I meant
@tighmir You are right, the tech specs do not differ THAT greatly, but the macbook does have better specs, for considerably more money. I'm not even trying to be one of those "MAC SUX LOL" fanboys, I'm not, because I know it's all personal preference. I'm just saying it's not really a fair comparison.
And the mac is also a better built computer. I was talking to a guy the other day and his macbook pro was stolen and then people who stole it smashed it and ran it over and and apple employee found it and returned it to him and the data was recovered but the screen was ruined.
I dont have to replace my battery after a 100 cycles. the battery will last up to 10 hours unlike the dells 4 hour battery if you are lucky. and the mac os does not need as much ram as a pc to run. it is lighter, thinner, faster. So I can see why I would pay more It comes with a restore disk that i dont have to pay dell to get one. The wifi range 3 times better, it is sexier, and sleeker. I have used Pcs ever sense windows 95 and i got mac 1 year ago and still use windows but mac is better.
@tricolor707 I may be able to in a few weeks if you want me to. I would go with the macbook pro. It is faster, easier and better and longer battery life.
@topazexploder what kind of software came preinstalled into your mac? If i upgrade to a mac book, i intend to use it for video editing and stuff like that
ehh whatever i get is fine with me but i do kinds prefer mac but win7&8 are still pretty cool

Furthermore, All Macs have fairly similar specs, as where Dells do not. PCs do not. They are varied as much as the world is with cats and dogs.
