Being of tropical nature just means being passionate, emotional, physical, that sort of thing (in contrast to the English said to be always cold, reserved and polite, for example). It's a cliché but true in most cases, as clichés usually are. So no, it's not contagious but probably passed on through heredity and upbringing.
