audionautas. com/2010/09/how-to-wreck-nice-beach-dave-tompkins.html Now everyone reading this will know that the voicing of the Cylon Centurions from BSG:TOS was done on an EMS Vocoder 2000 and NOT on a Sennheiser Vocoder VSM201!!!
That announcer really was enthusiastic about it. I wish that young people today could share this enthusiasm. We have raised a generation than does not just disregard the past.
I for one do not like updated CGI, vast color spectrums and special effects in general. The story of mankind versus their own inventions is one told best through literature not movies, but if they must tell it with movies and video then let it be authentic... I work in the industry of robotics, and nothing!! about the old and new Galactica, is authentic in ANY way in terms of the robotics, cybernetics, etc. So... whatever...
A picture is worth a thousand words. movies usually are played at 24 fps, thus in comparison you can see thats ends up at 84 million words an hour. And for Captmiloman, science fiction should always be taken seriously. If not it is fantasy. Many (good) scifi writers use it as a medium to convey concepts. The robotics wasn't suppose to be realistic, but it challenged many philosophical questions that may arise in our future. BTW screw the robotics, try to explain FTL drives. Robots are easier
Having a differing opinion doesn't make me stuck up. If my perspective is not identical to your view then plese just simply ignore it. There is no need for namecalling. I didn't post on here to offend anyone. My point was that we are lucky that visual effects technology keeps advancing in such a way that it enhances storytelling without distracting from the plot. This excites me. I appreciate the older Sci Fi shows too. I apologize if my comments came across as an insult.
I know there are those who hate the updated version of BSG but I can't bring myself to watch the old version with the western shootouts, lizard people, and cheesey special effects. It makes my son laugh everytime they show reruns on SciFi channel.
It wasn't cheesy at the time, and one of the best Trek shows had a lizard guy that Kirk fought. This show is 30 years old, so give us a break that like the old shows. I respect those older shows that brought us Galactica, and like the new show viewers should respect the past. They wouldn't have the new show if it wasn't for the past. BTW I enjoy the new show, it has me sitting on the edge of my seat. GINO is what it is call (Galactica In Name Only)
Trek is another example of silly alien enemies so thanks for bringing that up too. I have to admit that I did like the episode Trouble with Tribbles (I'm even going to get the Hallmark ornament this year). All of these 60's and 70's Sci-Fi shows were definitely way before there time in terms of concepts compared to visual effects capabilities. I'm smart enough to know that it wasn't cheesey at the time but it is now so I choose to enjoy and even further appreciate the new technology. Thanks.
@twentythreeforlife cheesy special effects?? sorry, I think The model effects in the 70's look a million times better and more real than the cheesy fake looking CGI with the camera shaking all over the place. the Cylons look like humans and everyone is depressed mumbling in the dark. yuck. I can't watch the new version at all.
@MentalRob I understand that the effects were considered the best at the time and wouldn't argue that point. If a 10 yr old knows the same shots of a raider were in every battle scene it indicates the levels of visuals have improved on television now. The shaky cam is indicates what a viewer present at the event would see if they were in another ship. Some people like it while others get queasy. It originated on Firefly (another great sci fi show taken too soon.) Apocalypse = depression

They wish to obliterate it.

@drbotanus Or they wish to remake the past into what THEY think is cool, therefore sullying what was good about the original.

The sullying is part of their promotion of their version.

It's Science Fiction and not to be taken seriously. If you don't like it, then don't watch.
