I really hope that he is telling the truth that he avoids the internet because the thought of him reading some of the naughty thoughts we crazy fans have about him is just too embarrassing. Why did Alan need to learn how to drive for Die Hard? I don't remember his character driving at all.

He had to drive in order to live in LA where they were filming. Because when he lived in London and New York, in those places generally people don't drive (they take the subway or call taxis) but in LA people actually drive.

Haha from what I gather, Alan isn't too extravagant (he doesn't travel by limo much)... stars don't do that as often as most people think. If you look at youtube channels (like hollywoodtv) you'll notice that stars (Dustin Hoffman, Paris Hilton) and all drive themselves. Not that I'm comparing Alan Rickman to them ;)

It's really the culture of the city... I don't know if you've been LA before, but you don't want to live there for several months (it takes a long time to film!) without a car.

You don't want to take a limo/taxi everytime you go grocery shopping and stuff.

Although I do think that Alan ought to ride limos, too ;)
