It's not fake because it's training. It's not a real fight, it TRAINING! Everything is scripted in training. Aikido is a defensive art. It has saved my ass in the few confrontations I've been in. the point of what seagal was doing was showing the difference between catching the jab at full extension (damn near impossible) and catching the jab as he pulls back his arm. its easier to do when he's pulling back because you know where his arm is going to be.

I know reality self defense, and Aikido is the furthest thing from it. Real fight? How many people have the stamina for a long fight- if they are not trained? Most real fights are short. If the fight is based on anger - that adrenaline may last 2-5 minutes. After that if you are not trained you start having trouble. A trained fighter generally have no problems defeating a street fighter.

However, in a situation in public where fights are a reality, the real street fighter is going to fight dirty. He'll have friends, he'll have a knife, a gun, He'll smile and talk nicely to you and then knife you in the gut. MMA training does not prepare you for that. Self defense, in my opinion, should first teach you to defuse a situation. MMA doesn't.
@danmunners I agree with you about the method of the martial artist. Most MMA fighters tend to ground themselves in a particular martial art. Street fighting without weapons is overrated because most street fighters are not prepared to take body shots - or shots to the thighs. That is the quickest way to end a fight instead of going for the knockout head shot.

Seagals wrist lock technique must be very good, he drops silva in a second and he doesnt even use his body to put the lock on. There was no need to put it on though, other than him being able to put it on in that moment. There are plenty of times I'm able to put a technique on to someone I'm training with at a particular moment in time, but doing it just for the sake of it is pointless.
Either way, I'd still like to train with seagal, he actually intercepts silvas punches very well for a fat guy

None of those punches were fast, and the problem in trying to catch a punch is that they're not thrown in ones, anyone with any training throws combinations and the second one will hit you before you've had chance to do anything with the first.

They weren't sparring so that did not count! This is bs propaganda of traditional martial arts crap: aikido (and all the rest, such as kung fu, karate, etc). To make it count as a successful wrist lock, Silva must fully resist and not cooperate -- known in functional martial arts world (i.e, mma, bjj, boxing, wrestling, etc) as sparring. The proof, Silva punches and 2 seconds pass before the wristlock is applied. Why? because Silva knew it was a demo and let Seagal do a wrist lock.
Aikido what Seagal practices is Jujitsu, its just with a different emphasis. All the popular grappling arts Sambo, Hapkido, Aikido, Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, Krav Maga originate from Chin Na from China. The same art used for the Mongol Army.

Real fight? How many people have the stamina for a long fight- if they are not trained? Most real fights are short. If the fight is based on anger - that adrenaline may last 2-5 minutes. After that if you are not trained you start having trouble. A trained fighter generally have no problems defeating a street fighter.

Self defense, in my opinion, should first teach you to defuse a situation. MMA doesn't.

Street fighting without weapons is overrated because most street fighters are not prepared to take body shots - or shots to the thighs. That is the quickest way to end a fight instead of going for the knockout head shot.

Seagals wrist lock technique must be very good, he drops silva in a second and he doesnt even use his body to put the lock on. There was no need to put it on though, other than him being able to put it on in that moment. There are plenty of times I'm able to put a technique on to someone I'm training with at a particular moment in time, but doing it just for the sake of it is pointless.
Either way, I'd still like to train with seagal, he actually intercepts silvas punches very well for a fat guy

None of those punches were fast, and the problem in trying to catch a punch is that they're not thrown in ones, anyone with any training throws combinations and the second one will hit you before you've had chance to do anything with the first.

@1Dystopian not if you get out of striking position, or put your opponent out of it. look at like 13 seconds and watch where segal ends up. he deflected the punch and ended up moving into a position and putting Silva in a position where Silva would have to turn and face him again before he could punch.

To make it count as a successful wrist lock, Silva must fully resist and not cooperate -- known in functional martial arts world (i.e, mma, bjj, boxing, wrestling, etc) as sparring. The proof, Silva punches and 2 seconds pass before the wristlock is applied. Why? because Silva knew it was a demo and let Seagal do a wrist lock.

Seagal has no pro fights to his name apart from 'Aikido v Aikido' which counts for diddly and u Aikido/Seagal-movie-ball-lickers still sing his praises. pmsl.
Cutting a long story short, Aikido in UFC 1-4 could not even qualify past the preliminaries. Pathetic.
Whilst the weapon training in Aikido may work quite well, hand to hand it sucks ass, just like Seagal's movies. :D

Keep cool man. :) A real street fight is about NO rules, and tehre is no exception for hair pulling or sometning like that, seem like you were never in a real street fight, where is all about survival at ANY COST and not "yo bro, dont look at ma bitch". :) BIG difference.

MMA is a great sport, i love it ! But its still a sport with rules, and lay down rules you trained so hard for years -pull no hair, not cheapshot/eye poke etc- is not easy. Im no Seagal fanboy but i think he has ENOUGH EXPERIENCE to fuck a few guys pretty easy. :)

Just so you know, Steven teaches Special Forces tactical weapons usage for the military. Are you people stupid? Anderson is a real fighter, Seagal is an expert in his martial arts but he could never in his life beat any mma fighter because the styles are totally different. That's like taking some other experienced martial arts fighter and putting them against an mma fighter, it would be obvious that the mma fighter would probably win because he would have more fighting tactics more commonly used in real life fighting. That's what mma is all about hence Mixed Martial Arts.

To the ppl that don't know anything about fighting. Mr Segal is a really fighter and trainer of marshall arts. He just don't play one TV. And if you know anything about training. Your 1st taught to react a only a fraction of the speed in a fight. Speed comes naturally when practiced.
