  • how do i get it to change yellow?! I'm DESPERATE!!!

  • In this experent for what it is and why does it change of color and it comes out smoke when you add dry ice. Sorry for my English .

  • Ive tried that in school

  • wow that was cool im going to try that at home

  • how do u make it change colors

  • tako je ekstra

  • this is really cool and fun.

  • can we use other vegetables or fruits except for red cabbage

  • this really smells bad, but its great experiment...

  • OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKES!

  • Whee!

  • oh by the way Steve I was wondering would more cabbage juice mean a faster indication or is it only more solid colors

  • where can I purchase this phenothaylene, I apologize for my spelling or could i acheive the same indication with cabbage juice by using dry ice, please respond

    - Enthusiastic science fan

  • or... use UI hehe but that pretty cool :)

  • I wish you were my science teacher when I was back in school, you make science fun.

  • so steve, all you need to make the purple liquid to turn clear is the red cabbage leaf + the blender and strain the mixture then blow bubbles? Plz respond!

  • The relativ atom masses are to handel (addit) with (g/mol=x*10^-36) for the exactly molecularmass, divide it by the number of atoms and verb they paralell to the exactly ratio you want. You can to addit the sames atoms before do the paralell verbs.

It is a kind of magic sure.

Amazon.de sell an periodensystem with relative atommasses and more.

I like the texas instrument calculators (not the cheapest.

  • nice :D i did this in my school too testing base and acids too, and one question, why the ice doesnt freeze the water? if its about -200 degrees.

  • I don't understand why when you add dry ice to the cylinder it turns green and yellow if dry ice is made of CO2 which is an acid so the color should be turning red or pink instead of green and yellow since these are the colors of bases?... can someone answer this for me because I need this info. for my lab on chem class

  • How can I do for make the red cabagge juice white i tried but i couldn´t frst i used my breath and then i used the dry ice and it didn`t function too so can you help please i need it as soon as posible

  • @carfer0695 did you add the acid/base? the red cabbage is just the indicator so its a neutral ph level which means you would have to add either an acid or base to get the color change

  • what happens if you do the whole same experiment but after you put the dry ice, you put dishsoap?

  • I wish they had this in Fresno California... pretty boring over here.

  • Was the last experiment done with cabbage juice?

  • Steve will green cabage work too?

  • 3:01 oohhohhohho Ohhohhohhoo

  • lool will it blend

  • just regular red cabbage? thought it would be more advanced then that

  • im my 8th grade science class i did somthing like this. we had to come up with an indicator and present it in front of the class. what i did was mash up rose petals and mixed it with water. and i put it in different bases. (i got an a)

  • My science teacher did this while we were studying Acids and Bases. Pretty cool!

  • that is awesome!

  • Steve, I made some red cabbage pH indicator the same way you did. I've heard that adding 91% isopropyl alcohol will cause the red cabbage pH indicator to last longer. Do you know how much I should add to my pH indicator? I have about 1400ml of indicator.

  • @stevespanglerscience I wanna know how a rabbit can die if they get wet so post a video about how rabbits die when they get wet.

  • Red Cabbage is as good as litmus, right Steve?

  • @themobstermentalist this experiment will just tell you if something is an acid or a base, it won't tell you ph level.

  • @Stevespanglerscience there is now a ph scale for red cabbage color changes. You can search it on the net

  • that has nothing to do with sience, the first secounds remind me smoking weed bloob blooob bloob :D

  • Lol, WILL IT BLEND

  • That's actually really interesting how chemicals can create a reaction.

    ... And pretty too :)

  • HouseholdHacker did something similar to this a little while ago.

  • Hey steve I showed my science teacher some of these vids like a week ago, and yesterday in science we had sorta finished our science project on foetuses. ( I think thats how you spell it ). So we had nothng else to do, So we decided tat for the whole lesson we would just watch steve spangler vids LOL... great fun science as allways :)

  • @killer6468 thanks for watching!

  • @Stevespanglerscience Do you know why cabbage juice turns clear when you blow in it ?

  • Oh for heavens sakes!

  • what liquid was in the blender ?

  • wear can i get dry ice?!?!?! plzzzzzzz tell me!!!!!

  • @armyofplastic try your local grocery store. They keep it behind the counter and you have to be 18 to buy it.

  • @Stevespanglerscience thanks!!!!!

  • @Stevespanglerscience wait, what! are you saying that i can just walk down to wallmart or price chopper and buy dry ice?

  • @Stevespanglerscience What will be if i'll breathe in cabbage juice (sorry for my English)

  • @armyofplastic

Or if you have a kroger store. I only know of one around where I live but they have dry ice for $1 or so per pound.

  • @armyofplastic CVSpharmacy and MAYBE wallgreens

  • @armyofplastic

Ive seen ralphs and albersons carry it. Look for a penguin in a locked cooler

  • that was amazing ;)

i never gets old to change the color of a liquid without barely doing anything

  • ha funny household hacker did this tuesday

  • God i love these :D

  • @Stevespanglerscience This is not the first time Householdhacker uploads a vid showing the same experiments as you...

  • household hacker did this too :)

  • awesome

  • Household Hacker!

  • @TheMikeMacintosh that's funny that Household Hacker posted a video about this on Tuesday and Steve did this on the news on Monday! Must be a good week for cool color changing chemistry!

  • you can use just red cabbage and nothing else?

  • as first i thought this was gonna be a rip-off of householdhacker but this was pretty cool, nice job ^^

now, make more stuff go boom :D

  • @andreasfr1 we just checked out their channel. What a coincidence that we both posted a video about the same thing this week! This was Steve's segment on 9News on Monday June 7th. I promise there will be more videos of stuff exploding soon!

  • @Stevespanglerscience sweet ^^ and thanks for showing me all the new ways i can get in trouble ;)

    *innocent whistle*

  • @andreasfr1 anytime! If you haven't, make sure to check out our free experiments library on our site too... 1000's of ways to get in trouble... I mean have fun!

    SteveSpanglerScience . com/experiments

  • @Stevespanglerscience

    *evil grin*

I shall use this for nothing but to wreak havoc on this planet~

    thank you ^^

  • first thing you did i did in science one time

  • FIRST AND I LIKE IT!

  • i did this in 3rd grade it was so much fun!

  • thats cool

  • Cool... What if you had a long tube, (longways and capped), and sliced it in half all the way down, (longways or like a semi-cylinder), fill it up with what you had in the video, and put dry ice in one end of the tube/really long container... Would it still change color all at once or will it gradually change as it CO2 goes to the other side?

  • @TopGun904 it wouldnt change color all at once thats for sure.. it would start changing from one end and move to the other
