Just make sure you throw it quick, I've only tried it once, but within 5 seconds it explodes(once you put the cap on).

@TheOrangejelly it can be any alcohol, it's just that rubbing alcohol is easier to get and with higher concentrations, and, technically, you don't need "chlorine", but keeping with the theme of "chlorine", liquid bleach works.

@12StandingRoomOnly34 Have you tried liquid bleach? That stuff is really low concentrations of NaClO, I'd be interested in seeing if that actually works. As to the pool chlorine, you probably can't use tablets of "stabilized" chlorine, which is a completely different chemical than powdered or "pool shock". Shock (Sock It brand, for example) is NaClO (same as bleach) but in a much less dilute form than bleach.

well if you are going to try that remember DO NOT SHAKE THE BOTTLE...the explosion will happen it will take longer. If you shake the bottle, the ingredients react alot faster and may explode in your hand which is why you have some people who have it blow up in their hands before they even get to throw it. Chlorine does not kill you in that manner. Though it is very toxic, it would not kill you given the small concentrations produced by the explosion. Anyway, when they say chlorine is mixed with alcohol, what do they mean by chlorine? Is it bleach, sodium hypochlorite or something else?

Pool chlorine, at least in tablet form, is normally no longer Calcium hypochlorite Ca(ClO)2. Nowadays it is more than likely Trichloroisocyanuric acid (C3Cl3N3O3). I believe C3Cl3N3O3 reacts with C3H8O (Isopropyl alcohol), and water to form HCl, Cl2, and some other byproducts... I may be wrong though.

I can't believe that so many wanna be chemists have got this wrong. Bleach & Alcohol, Bleach & Ammonia, neither of these combinations produces Chlorine Gas. Bleach & Alcohol produces toxic gases known as Chloramines. While Chloramines wont kill you, they will make you feel like crap.

If you want to make Chlorine Gas (which is very deadly) you need to mix Chlorine with some type of acid. Now, mixing Chlorine gas with water will produce Hydrochloric acid.

Anyone attempting to do this, be REALLY careful. Don't approach the bottle after it explodes like these guys did, ESPECIALLY don't duck down near it. Chlorine gas is heavier than air, so it sinks, and it would hang out near the bottle. The wind probably blew it away for this one, and they were lucky. But be really, really careful when you're doing this, because one deep breath of chlorine gas, and that's it. You're gone. But just be careful and have fun with it!
