  • My favorite part is watching people eat in the restaurant

  • Oh I really wish I was on that right now...

  • i do like all the pirates of the caribbean films but i think i will just avoid the whole new version of the ride, once am at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom because Jack Sparrow/movie based stuff really takes away the focus of whatever nice storyline the old one had

so i'll just avoid at all coast and i guess do used to the older version

  • I still remember the old Pirate in the beginning!!!

  • Why is this video so long? Was the ride that long?

  • Looks the same to me before & after.

  • ARR Good Video mate!

  • i remember the first time i went on this ride when i was 7, i saw the little resteraunt at the beginning and said out loud "wow, disney is amazing, those people sitting eating at those tables look SO real! i can't wait to see what the pirates look like" XD ohhh boy did i get some funny looks from the people when my dad told me they were real LOL!

  • @KeiboRocklee lmao me too.. i used to think it was part of the act or something

  • is the talking skeleton head still on the ride today?

  • @MissScabtree13 no. It was replaces with smoke coming down to form a wall, and it has davy jones on it

  • @yesminusno NO NO NO NO NO

    I LOVED THAT THING. :L

    I AM NOT HAPPY.

  • i love the smell right when you enter the battle scene after coming out of the caves. it's amazing, haha. and i love this ride!!!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU! Pirates used to be my favorite ride before they added Jack Sparrow. Now the whole story line is grounded and based on him rather than guests making up their own adventure! I love his character, but the movies, and even him, were inspired by this ride, the way guests should also be allowed (and challenged) to do themselves! Disrespectful!

  • I liked the Multi- Colors of the old Boats .The Names and Numbers on the boats.

  • are there any drops?

  • @MrOtay101 There are 2 drops (both are indoors as is the entire ride) on the one at Disneyland.

  • God, I love this ride. :D

  • One of my favorite parts about the queue for this line is you can randomly hear the Tarzan music next door. Also I love the music you hear once inside the manor.

I'm a fan of both the original and updated attractions, as I am with the regular Haunted Mansion and Haunted Mansion Holiday. The old Pirates had its nostalgia and the new Pirates has its nostalgia. They are great attractions either way in my opinion. : )

  • i love this ride so much

  • Wow, this video was uploaded on the 40th anniversary of the opening of New Orleans Square! Was that intentional?

Anyway, I love this ride and getting to relive how it was before the refurb.

  • i dont like how they changed the ride now it was better before

  • @AnnieDisneyFan I know alot of people don't, but I like the new verision, because it's like I get to join Jack Sparrows Adventures.

  • hey ru, do you know the exact date that the new refurbished potc opened?

  • I liked the ride a lot before the update, but Pirates is still one of my favorite Disney rides. The part though that I'm sorry they took out was when you go past Davy Jones into the area where the boat is attacking Port Royal. I liked it better how it was before when it was two boats attacking each other.

  • I am not sure how to tell you this but it has never been 2 boats attacking each other. It has been 1 boat (Wicked Wench) attacking a nameless Caribbean port.

  • Was it really? It was a long time from my last trip to Disneyland before the Pirates update, so I guess I just thought it was always two boats. Still one of my all time favorite Disney rides though.

  • @ru42 lol your so rite, but there was alot more after the first drop, now its void and it doesnt seem as interesting, and they took out the hidden micky, i miss the old ride

  • @ru42 oh and i think i know what they mean, remember in the squall, i beleive there were 2 boats i may be wrong

  • What superb audio! Now, everything sounds so echoey and you can't hear things clearly!

I think the one thing I miss about this ride is at the end when you're going up and the pirates are trying to pull all that treasure up to the boat. Ahh good times.

  • I still think the only exciting part of this ride is the drop right at the beginning. From then on, it's kinda boring, but its still a nice boat ride in the dark. Heh.

  • my childhood memories are ruined with the litetring of sparrow into teh scenes of Pirates of the caribbean the ride!

  • @captain0ldy0da Maybe your childhood was ruined, but not mine. You can't change the past. It's over Jack the new king of the ride now, so there's nothing you can do. The rides inspired the films, then the films inspiried the rides. That's how it is. Jack Sparrow in your opinion may be the worst addition to a theme park ride you've ever heard of. " But you have heard of him".

  • @solidmario1 I'm just nostalgic, I like Pirates of the Caribbean, my favourite films. WTF is up with my grammar in that comment?

  • this ride has become so much more populated with the movies out. the new pirates is ok, they didnt change much except for what some say and added 3 Jack Sparrows. but they ruined Tom Sawyer Island.

  • original is best

  • This is a GREAT video, thanks for posting!

btw. . . I'm not a fan of the 'refurb'. It ruined some of my favorite parts for me. Oh well :(

  • agreed, the newer version feels like i'm on "the jack sparrow ride" rather than pirates of the caribbean. :(

  • @jimbones0 I used to be scared of the waterfalls on this ride, but i'm over it now, but I never felt the feeling of being like Jack before they put him in. Now I feel like I'm actually in the Middle of one of Jack's Adventures. He may be the worst addition to the ride you may have seen or heard of, "but you have heard of him".

  • This is the best video I've seen on any of the Dinsey rides, well done mate!

  • I love the smell of pirates of the caribbean. its like the water makes an amazing smell. i cant wait I'm going to disneyland with my best friend tomorrow :)

  • agreed. Disney exclels in all 5 senses:

    Sight (Scenery)

    Taste (MmmmMmmm, their turkey legs)

Sound (Yo ho, YO HO, a pirates life for me!)

Touch (You could almost feel all the details in every crack and crevese)

    Smell (GO PotC smell!)

  • Oh indeed :) I always remembered that smell, it smells great. A few years ago we were at this fountain at a mall and it smelled just like that, I was like dude it smells like Pirates of the caribbean and this lady heard me and she was like oh wow it does :D Was really cool that a random stranger remembered that as well, brought back awesome times :D

  • Now thats fuckin awesome!

  • @clairemarie17 That would be the chlorine and bleach your smelling. But does it smell great ;)

  • @clairemarie17 lol, that smell is the blue bayu resteraunt, and quite a good place to eat i must add

  • @clairemarie17 omg ikr after i went there with my family in april i couldnt stop thinkin about how much i ,missed disneyland and going on pirates of the caribean and that was always one thing i missed

  • "DEAD MEN TELL NO TALE!"

  • I miss when the ride was like this. I hate the changes that have been made to reflect the movies.

  • me too

  • @manlyone23 Not me. Jack's my favorite pirate. I don't care what any thinks about the changes, and come to think of it, I don't even care for the old version anymore. The new one is cool and if you don't like it, that's your problem, not mine.

  • @solidmario1 I wouldn't expect it to be your personal problem if I don't prefer the new, retarded version of the ride, unless you were the one who thought of, and installed the changes yourself.

  • @manlyone23 Maybe I could have been, and if you don't like it, it's still not my problem, so you can yo ho kiss my grim grinning ass. "And these be the last friendly words ye'll hear"! I like the Jack sparrow changes because I can join one of his adventures.

So who gives a crap about the old anymore? Not me!

  • @manlyone23 Actually, I think the old version is retared compared to the new version now. so tough luck, mate.

  • Yeah, the smell is great lol.

  • The restaurant last I know was called The Blue Bayou Terrace - and it overlooks the ride. It's good food too, EXPENSIVE, but then again what amusement park is complete with a $40 admission and $29 for food. :)

  • i love how all you have to do is walk in and it just has a specific smell. its so weird.

my whole family is disney fanatics, and if we go somewhere and it smells like POTCB one of us will say something about it.

    Its crazy.

Supposed to go on may 15th! Im praying for it!

  • OMG I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!!!

POTC AND Indiana Jones both a this smell to them!!

I went to my cousin's for the week and her bathroom smelled like it!! haha I would just walk into the bathroom to smell it because it reminded me of it so much!!

I thought I was the only one that thought about the specific smell those two have!

    HIGH FIVE!

  • @NikkiDancesOnGraves what is POTC i mean i know the smell and it smell amazing!! :D but what is that? haha i feel dumb for asking but oh well :P

  • @mariseladullum POTC stands for Pirates of the Carribean... Haha I can understand how that looks like the name for some sort of chemical or something! I think that's what you're asking, I assumed you were responding to a comment of someone saying something like "I love the smell of POTC." If this isn't what you're asking, sorry!

  • haha yeah that was what i was asking :P haha i feel so stupid haha :P but thanks! now i know haha :P :D

  • oh yeahhh!!!

    it smells good.

when i smell it over there,

i get all excited for the ride!

  • omg i was there on may 15th!!!

  • i cant believe how well they got the aurora and night time natural feel down at the beginning. its so absorbing. i always wondered though. were all those people 'dining' at the beginnning real? was that a real restaurant?

  • yes its a restaurant that overlooks the byue but its expencive

  • I hate to be a stickler, dear, but it's the Blue B-A-Y-O-U and yes, it is a bit (you almost had it! :P) E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E. Like I said, hate to be a stickler, but this is what happens when your mother is a literature teacher and you grow up in such an environment.... :P LOL

  • im from poland and i want to see disneyland. it must be fantastic place - the best on the world!!!!!!!!

  • Disneyland is my true home!!!!! I just love it there

  • I can sing this entire ride from the moment you enter the building unitl the second you leave the boat at the end without musical help!

    Yay me!

  • this is the best filming of this ride i have ever seen! :D

  • The only the the Disney World superiority is our queue line.

I wish we had everything else. :(

  • Yea, the WDW queue rocks! Just FYI - my videos can be obtained in DVD quality. If you have a mind to you can check out my site at members*cox*net/ru42 (replace the * with .) - - RU

  • @Philkid3 uf Floridians hadn't been so anxious to get "Pirates" the oimagineers could have duplicated ths version for Florida.

  • Great video! I love Disneyland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love when you go through the mist/smoke of davey jones(if that's how you spell it)

  • omg i love the smell=]

there just something really amazing about it

  • Holy cow, me too!!!!! :D I thought I was the only one, hahahaha. It's so comforting, huh? hehe!

  • hahahah.

    me tooo:)

    LOVE IT.

    its my drug

  • i love the smell too!!! lol i dont why i just love it!

  • i know, its weird but its also the same with the rest of disneyland, i would go somewhere and i would say, it smells like disneyland, or pirates ride, and my parents would be like, what??

  • this is by far the best video of this ride i have ever seen i love this ride its my favorite

  • Thank you.

  • this ride always scared me when i was little, it still isn't a ride i want to go on.

  • Is it me, or did a little button labled, "Turn off the lights" appear above the video?

    Anyway,

Ah, what memories. The sights, the sounds, and that foggy-ish smell.

  • Um, I believe it was you. - _ RU

  • Yeah it appeared for me as well. It must be a new YouTube feature to better view videos.

  • However, this does appear to be the only video that has it..

  • Oh well thats a good thing right?, we get to see it better.

  • its on video 20 minutes or longer.

    i think/

i like disneyland videos in the dark lol

  • i tHiNK itS tHe WAteR

  • i love that smell that you start smelling @ around 1:32 somebody must tell me what that smell is.

  • its the chlorine in the water:) i luv the smell also

  • i luv it too! it smells like something you can only smell at disneyland!

  • i agree, i know it sounds weird, but disneyland definitely has a distinct smell to it! and it always gets me excited when you enter the gate! :D

  • Arg! Tis the water, a tinge of the bilge, and a tang of the Blue Bayou wafting on the breeze wouldn't you know, matey.

Just sailed it meself but two days past.

Some jack'o napes knocked the map off ol' peg-legs lap with an ill-thrown bottle, but not of rum, thank God. The gentleman of fortune offering a wee nip to the kitties had one nip more hisself and floated away on the tide ..., tis an ill wind ...

  • WARE is the Gunfight At The End

  • LOL 2:03....Look at that Dumb Looking Kid,,.

  • Is it just the WDW version that has the Moonlight Bay scene with the pirate ship out in the bay under the moonlight? I always loved that setup.

  • no,,,I live in Japan and The Tokyo Version has this...But not the bed scene,,,

  • Thats neat how some have the same and yet some are different in their own ways. I remember my Grandfather and Aunt went to Japan and they said it was nice there and some of their rides were different than the Florida one.

  • Thats cause the Tokyo is a mirror version of the WDW one. But yeah I do love how each of the parks has their own versions of the same ride. I hear Frances is the best version of it.

  • does anyone know what the lower flute playing music as you first walk in is called??

  • Its just a remix of the POTC theme. I just love that theme. Its on a CD.

  • YES i need to know this. like seriously need to.

  • now when i go we walk right up to the ride or theres just about 5 minutes or less wait.

  • There are many wonderful attractions at Disneyland but, Pirates of the Caribbean stands alone. The music, sets, costumes, dialog, characters are all top notch. Live actors could not do this justice. Disney Imageneers finest hour. Thanks again RU42.

  • i like the entrance

  • This ride was inspired by the "Speelunkers Cave" at Six Flags Over Texas.

  • The rumor is that SC inspired Small World; not Pirates. It is also rumored that SC caused Disney to create AA but AA was introduced in Tiki Room a year before SC was opened.

  • at 4:26 was those real people at a real restoraunt?

  • Yes, the Blue Bayou restaurant sits on the water that makes up the beginning of the ride. It is a good restaurant with an awesome environment. - _ RU

  • do they no its pirates of the caribeean right next to them??

  • Thanks for posting this. I saw this at Disney World in like 1979, and I still remember parts of it and that it scared the crap out of me. :-)

  • the barker bird i miss him! but cotton's parrot was awesome!

  • one time i went on this ride when i was little and there was a lull in the line so the guy at the landing asked if we wanted to go again, so we did. i miss that. i wish there was a lull in the line last summer!

  • Lady Deerskin I couldn't agree more. Bums me out something fierce that this ride has been messed with, and I also think it's not in the best long term interests of this fantastic machine/work of art that was a HUGE part of my childhood and whose memories I treasure dearly.

  • i'm going to Disneyland next week xDD

  • im going next week!!this time im recording videos to share on youtube!

  • i went on this ride like 2 weeks ago and it was still good =]

  • i really hope they didn't ruin this ride with putting in the movie characters. i like the movies fine but i love the ride. i'm going to be extremely disappointed if they ruined it.

  • @oldskoolhorrorjunkie If they ruined it for you, that's your opinion. They made it better for me.

  • Man I don't wanna wait in line

  • is this the one in WDW or DLR??

  • DLR

  • omg why did they change it?!?!?!? i loved the old ride ( well original )

  • it wasn't changed much. they pretty much just snuck jack sparrow in 3 places and a water thing of davey jones. at least- that's what they did in orlando.

but in orlando there's 1 drop. in california, are there 2?

  • yeah i think but no they added effects and they say different things like

    they used to say

    " where is the treasure"

    now they say

    "where is jack sparow "

  • they *really* should have left this as it was. it is very risky to hitch their star ride to one person, and expect it to last...look at what happened when they cosied up to michael jackson! and where is he now? same thing with paul rubens, who had a great kids show, but ruined his reputation. i like the PTOC movie, but not at the expense of redoing this classic ride. thank you for making this tape!

  • I wounder if the Resturant is still there in the middle?

  • Yes; it is there. - -RU

  • yes, it is still there, keep saying i am going to try it out, but, never get around to it.

  • the original ride is far better than the new one

thanks for putting up some good memories

  • The rides still good but the things they say don't make any sense now. I'd rather they not try to jam a franchise into everything but still a good ride.

  • I love this ride. I love the old ride and the updated too. Try the restaurant on it to. AWESOME

  • ohh dude thnx for putting this on cause i forgot last time the ride was close for 10 min we went to eat some fries we past 1 more time then they opened and we got first in line lol! =D

  • I remember when I was a kid I thought the first part where you pass the restaurant was part of the ride.. I wasn't sure they were human.

  • Arrg! Matey. This ride is cool.

  • Watch out for the Jack Sparrow stuff. Six Flags wrecked the Spelunkers cave with Bugs and Elmer Fudd.

  • Ah, now see? This was the true pirates, before marketing at Disney got a hold of it and crippled it. I love this video!

  • What crippled this ride was the feminists complaining about the pirate chasing the woman.

  • I agree there. Jack's not the problem. It's the constant PCing.

  • I know everyone talks about how they hate Disney changing rides but they've done it all along. That's the point - if something new technology-wise can be added, they've done it. If something new can tie in to another Disney product, they've done it. Much as I love the enjoyment of the parks, we all have to remember the parks and the shows advertise each other. It all started with a mouse!

  • I hear ya. The marketing was always there. People complain that they just use Adventureland to sell Jack Sparrow now, but walt used Frontierland to sell Davy Crockett so nothing's really changed

  • Man, I hate how Disney always changes things. I know, its all bout money, but still. They need to keep some things the same.

  • XD For some reason, thunderstorm sounds were playing during the auction scene if you listen closely...

  • Not thunder but canon fire, you hear the battle between the pirate ship and the fort echoing in that room. - - RU

  • I loved it!

  • pm me to join my pirate crew!

  • from 3:43-3:45 you can see a cast members shadow walk by in the back round

  • wow it really changed alot from the last time i was on it.

  • also the second voice (maybe ye knows too much voice)

is the voice of the talking jolly roger at the beginning and the writer of yo ho a pirates life for me, xavier francis atencio!

  • im 12 years old and i also remember the first submarine voyage without nemo and how you used to see planets on spacemountain.

i live in los angeles county and when the tickets were less money we went there a lot!

i miss the old version, especially the part where you hear "no fear ye have of evil cursus says you" part.

p.s. does anyone recognise that voice as the ghost host on the haunted mansion(paul frees)?

  • yeah, i miss the voices too, mate. (perhaps ye know too much... 'no fear have ye of evil curses, say you?') as much as i adore the huge davy jones waterfall, that part was what converted me from a princess to a pirate. :]

  • I'm so excited I'm going there Monday! :] I love potc ride~ :]

  • These videos are so awesome. We used to live in Longbeach and have moved to Idaho. It has been so long and watching these bring back so many great memories. Keep up the great work. (I wish they did not refurb Pirates just because of the movie!)

  • and don't lie to me, you used a track from a CD to make some music during the ride

  • ru42, what happened to the begining, like in most of your videos, you have a short film with extrordinary music, so plz tell me why i didn't hear anything?

  • Actually my style of editing has changed over time. This is one where I didn't do anything - but when I get the chance to do the post-refurb version there will be music. - - RU

  • is this the los angeles one? i have been to the one in florida many times(except since they have done the refurbishment), and the outside of the ride looks different.

  • man when i was in disney land i loved this ride it was wikkett(:

  • omg.. me wants to go to disney land soo bad ;-;

  • great video! I've rated it as 5 stars. Please check out my clip on a Pirate Treasure Hunt and some 1920's pirate and highwaymen trading cards.

  • God, I want to go to Disneyland so bad; haven't been in about 15 years. Thank God for night vision on cameras

  • I heard they changed the music (I haven't been there since 05) did they? that would be such a bummer. that was a big part of the Nostalgia of the ride. but cest la vie. thanks BTW great vid.

  • You hear the movie music at the Wicked Wench scene...

  • AWSOME! hmm...is it really true tht the new pirates ride is less violent (or has less of the violentish bits in it)? thts wat i heard...anyways, ride seems gr8...wish there was a disneyland in australia so i could go....

  • The 'new' version is exactly the same as the old version but with some Jack Sparrow, Barbosa, and Davy Jones elements added to the ride. - - RU

  • This is the one I remember Riding so be quiet
