  • never had a pacer,,, and probably never will,,, my wife, who was four when this car was made, has forbidden me from getting one.

  • @Taranau You are not alone in never having a Pacer! They certainly were an unusual car, and had a "love it, or hate it" styling! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I don't mind them so much. But my wife does. She like AMX's and Rebels, though. I remember a TV commercial where somebody was able to drive a Nova into the back of a Pacer cut in half. I thought that was great, but my dad wasn't impressed.

  • @Taranau That may have been a subtle way of imitating the strange ads that Volkswagen used at the time...I still remember a Beetle centered on the magazine page, with the word "LEMON" directly underneath it..the message-- the car failed the final inspection at the factory, so back it goes for repair! VW seemed pretty successful at this, for people expected the unexpected from them. I think Pacer was trying to do the unconventional too! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I think it has a better looking front end styling than that of the V8 model.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Cool you mentioned that..the 78 grille got neelessly bigger..this looks nicer to my eye! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I agree. Whatever the engine it was supposed to have, the grille should've stayed like this.

  • @raconter1 I agree.

  • Oh, forgot to mention, the engine compartment was very crowded as it was to have the rotary engine, but it didn't pan out ...

  • @donnyboyblue Hey, Donovan! Great point...the rotary engine was going to be under the Chevy Monza car's hood, too! It too was cramped! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had a 77 Pacer wagon with the simulated wood trim...looked sharp....was a good riding car with great visibility....that is a Lincoln hood ornament and an add as the original Pacers didn't have a hood ornament....nice video.

  • @donnyboyblue Hey, Donovan! Cool...you had the owner experience with this car! I thought something was strange with that ornament!! I was wondering how AMC got away with it..but as you say, it was an owner "customization"! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I used to laugh at the styling of the AMC Pacer. I thought the car was uglier than $#@! but I like the station wagon version better than the "sedan". I do like the interior of the car, very nice.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! I think this is one of those cars that looks better with time.

And I agree that the wagon version is more pleasing to me that the sedan. The interior looks very nice...well upholstered! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Indeed. The instrument panel is probably the best looking part of the interior.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! I agree..it's a bit more restrained than some of AMC's instrument panels! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 The only other AMC cars I've seen that have attractive instrument clusters are the Matador, this car, the Pacer, the Concord and the Eagle.

  • @raconter1 Is it?

  • Nice Find Jack! One comment about the Pacer. It boasted in the advertisements how much wider it was for a small car but look at the back seat. It's constricted by the rear wheel hump. And the inner door panel tops are really strange.

  • @gene978 Hey, Gene! I agree...I think Rambler/AMC had some issues with a constricted rear seat..I think I remember the Rambler American having some issues with that. The Pacer is the only car I have ever seen with that ridge on the top of the door panels. I really don't understand what they were thinking with that. Thanks! :) Jack

  • The tan interior colors really go well with that beige exterior. Nice to see one in such great shape.

  • @cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I agree..the colors went very well together! It's one of the best Pacers that I can remember seeing! Thanks! :) Jack

  • HEY JACK VERY NICE AND CURIOUS,THIS A CAPSULE OR EGG WITH WHEEL,THIS CAR MAKES SMILE TO EVERY IN IT TIME,AND TODAY,THIS CARS ARE VERY RARE TODAY,EVEN THE PACER COUPE..CURIOUS AND RARE JACK,EXCELLENT FIND.

    CONGRATULATIONS...

  • @SuperJohnnychingas Hey, Omar! That's a good way to put it..a capsule! That's driveable! It looks kinda futuristic...like you might expect a traveler from outer space to exit! I agree that they're very rare...I seldom see them, particularly the wagon! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • More engineering went into these than I knew. Thanks for the great videos Jack!

    David

  • @keyofdavid888 Hey, David! AMC had a great engineering department..they came up with their own V8 when that was so important, and they were definitely able to think outside the box in bringing new models to the market! Thanks for the compliment! :) Jack

  • I bought stock in Windex when these came out. :)

  • @hrsqsiest LOL! I wise move! A similar investment in paper towels would have been good too! :D Thanks! :D Jack

  • @hrsqsiest LOL

  • You know I love the AMC's.. I had several pacers. They were great little cars..Believe it or not they had a v/8 option for these. Thanks for sharing, Rich

  • @ncautoman57 Hey, Rich! I'm glad I found this cool car that gives you fond memories! I see, the following year, 1978, they offered the V8 as an option! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I remember working on the v/8 pacers.. That engine was packed in there. LOL Take care.
