yeah, that's great..that was then..this is now..YOUNGSTOWN, is a dump..a shooting almost everday..blight..hack politicians....a population that thinks it's "cute"..it's "slick" to have a so called "tough guy" image..there are more crack addicts in YOUNGSTOWN than mafia members, give me a break..the oldest and only living mafia member in Y-town is 93-yr. old LEO BOBO..hey, i'm FRANKIE RACK..short for RACKET..i'll see you in BRIER HILL..chow baby!
I saw a few things that I had only heard of from my parents. I was always so intrigued by the way they talked about how this city was when they were young. Thanks for this video and making those things come to life for me!
It's come some way since ca. 1990. But it's still a city that incarnates the broken hopes of the industrial Midwest. Still, I love the place.
And if Y'towners ever need to feel better about home, just take a ride west on 80, and get off at Gary, In. You'll think that Youngstown is Paris by comparison. Then you'll be murdered.
wow some people sound so racsist caught in the 1950s nuclear family values stucture these are the types who say [current] day some of my best friends are!!!! [?]
It sure would be great to see a connecting video with the same streets as they look today. I've never been to Youngstown. can somebody tell me what that same area is like today? Oh, and nice music for the video too
I can remember going downtown to get whatever we wanted or needed. It was a great bustling city when I was a kid. Then the times changed. No one was willing to deal with working for themselves, and adding to the richness of the city. I miss that. I'm glad I caught some of that greatness of what once was.
The actions of white/Italian gangsters ruined this town. People were already leaving in droves when Ytown went by the notorious moniker of, "Little Chicago." A corrupt justice system ruined Youngstown. Members of the Court and the Police/Sheriff's Dept were sold to the highest bidder. That's the hypocrisy. We were all to blame; whites- as well as blacks. The ones who got out just have short memories thats all.
What an awesome surprise! Find this clip of my hometown was incredible. "Tell your neighbors it came from Haber's"...and The Voyager...I'm speechless....Well, kind of. THANKS FOR POSTING!!
It is truly amazing at once was, and that there is virtually nothing left. These pictures and music provide great insight of the vibe of Downtown Youngstown in the early 1960s.
Is the food still good at the Voyager's Rib & Ember room? Do they have a website??

The decline of the Steel mills ruined Ytown.

It's truly ironic how we rebuilt European and Japanese cities after World War II and at the same time let American cities, large and small, rot away.
