@dragonangel6 yes we use it, but we adopted it from your own country simply because we have a sport that is more popular than soccer in our country, and we call it Football because the ball is a foot long. Your ignorance is baffling, yes we are ALL rednecks and yes Rugby is an 'intelligent' sport. We put on pads so we can hit harder without injuring ourselves, but even with pads the average of life span of and American Footballer is about 55 years old. Don't get me wrong I am a huge Soccer fan

@packers256 No it doesn't really matter, I'm from Australia and we quite often call it soccer as well, but if we started calling basketball 'dribbleball' or something like that I'm sure Americans would be peeved. You'd accept it but find it quite annoying that there was a perfectly good name that was used for more than 100 years, then all of a sudden a country changes it for no discernable reason. It's like most of American English... we accept it but we just think "why would you bother?"
