"The swing-wing silhouette of the MiG-27 will be visible in Russian skies well into the next century".
Wow, that's so sad... These guys couldn't possibly know all single engine aircraft would be taken out of active service in the Russian Air Force in 1994...
@Elfulcrum777 Sorry Fulcrum, I do have to correct you on this statement. F15's still hold the record for having not a single combat loss. About those other claims, I would like to know in what service or battle these are claimed. Imaginable some F14's were lost while in Iraq service like the Iraq airforce also lost a couple of other American build aircraft due to bad training a/o maintenance. On the other hand, please inform us also how many MIG-23's were lost during Desert Storm and later wars
@Brera011 no no no, the 3 F-15A's were IAF same with the F-16 apparently shot down by MiG-23MLD no F-15C were shot down in iraq, the 2 F-14s were of the Iranian air force not US

Auro1986,
Your fucking Porkistan is the absolute worst country on this beautiful Earth. Porkistan is home of all the terrorist organizations. Just imagine that if we did not have Porkistan on this planet how good life would be. Thousands of innocent lives would have not been wasted.
Fuck your bloody useless rapist Porkistan, Raghead!
Auro1986. You seriously think the Russian's make JUNK? The MiG-29 especially, not considering the MiG-15, 17, 19, 21, 23, and 25, which are all superb aircraft which scared the crap out of the US, but the 29 is superior to even our F-15 fighter in agility and would beat in in a pure dogfight with pilots of equal skill. I also love the aesthetic look of the MiG series, most of them are rather beautiful. None of them are junk.
I think junk is more to do with them being much cheaper and simpler to construct.
The MiG 25 for example, while being one of the most powerful planes ever built, it actually quite crude in construction (it's designed around the massive jet engines it has) with rivet welding and such.
So in a way it's junk, but it's fast and powerful junk (only production fighter ever clocked at Mach 3).
Well some SU planes were junk and their electronics during the CW lacked far behind. After the collapse the tech gap has pretty much been equalized. There was a major changing of the guard during the 70's where the SU realized it had to be more realistic to compete with the US. That resulted in a whole series of designs like the Su-27, Mig-29, Mig-31 etc. You can say Mig-23 or Mig-25 were junk, but were improved later on.
Very interesting documentary, but one thing missing is the aircraft's operational history, having participated in so many wars (Mideast, Africa, Asia).
the mig 27 is still used by ex-soviet alies like india & other 3rd world nations. the communist center may b dead but it's products r still sold around the world 2 terrorists.
your from india yourself and you consider it a terrorist and 3rd world country? odd. Also, a terrorist airforce eh? sounds like a story line to a ace combat game...
Will you did say it but I guess you didnt mean to. What about a 3rd world country? You consider yours to be 3rd world? And indeed terrorist organisations can get their hands on sophisticated weapons, but an air force? lol
the definition of a 3rd world country means those countries who got their independence after the 2nd World War.
the soviets left afghanistan but they left plenty of their war machines behind. some of them were mig-21s, mi-24s, tanks, & scud missiles. 4tunately the taliban couldn't use them cause they don't have the brains 2 do that.
the previously infamous LTTE had the only functional airforce which they used 2 bomb their target victims.
Interesting, but no 3rd world countries refer to the wealth of the countries and level of poverty versus development. & the countries gap in wealth between the rich and the poor. Most African countries are 3rd world, that has nothing to do with ww2. Russia and China would be 2nd world, and most if not all western countries and the likes of Japan would be 1st world. I looked up the LTTE, interesting, what planes did they use?
that's not the main point. india is a poverty striken poor kunt which was a soviet & communist ally. it still is 1 communist nation with no freedom it can't do anything 2 pakistan & just talk nonsense.
& abt the ltte!! they r history now. they used gliders & propellar engine aircrafts.

The russians don't understand that in a war the objective is 2 destroy the enemy and a weapon or machine built only 4 that purpose is the best But what did they do instead? they wasted their time & resources 2 build sturdy, low maintainable, short range fighter jets. & inbuilt with low tech avionics American fighters instead have longer strike range and the most advanced avionics compared 2 the russian migs or su.

The new su-35 which boasts of locking multiple targets & shooting them down @ 1 time is no big deal.
The American F-14 Tomcat pioneered this tech. way back in the 1970's

3rd world refers to countries that were not allied to the ussr or usa, this included some poor countries so people mix the term up

That's the origin but its a term to describe a countries level of development these days.
