  • Vintage classic Zep footage from a rare Danish TV performance in Copenhagen (2/69) Page, Plant, JPJ & Bonzo all in top form. This is a prime example why I always placed Jimmy over Clapton...if only by the slimest of margins (lol)

    An archival treasure.

  • @exposingthemachine. What the hell are ramblin on about? Shut the hell up you jackass

  • Nobody ever said page was one of the fastest or the cleanest guitarist of all time but he is one of the best.

  • One of the best videos ever!! This video gets me so pumped to write and play!

  • Who gives a fuck if page is better than hendrix or if hendrix is better than page. They both did alot for music and I rather listen to either one of them than the crappy music that comes out now n days.

  • pretty frickin cool

  • I'll neever understand how is posible that Page's hair grow THAT much in few months, from Yardbirds break up, till first's Zepp's appearence.

  • An amazing song from an even more amazing band, may God bless Led Zepp.

  • @luvzmocha he's still alive! If you wondering. Very old, but still the God! Unfortunately don't expect Led Zeppelin to ever get back together and tour year after year like the stones. Robert plant, for reasons I can not comprehend has stated that he wants to leave Zeppelin in the past and concentrate on a stupid band with a country singer no ones ever heard of. :(

  • He was such a good guitarist back then. I wonder what happened to him?

  • WHAT IN THE HELL IS TCR: 00 : 01 : 11 ?

AND WHY IS THAT ON THE LED ZEPPLIN TV PERFORMANCE? :)

  • One of the greatest clips ever

  • Listen to the BASS .. INCREDIBLE ..... Jones is keeping up with PAGE step for step...

  • My GOD i wish i was there.

  • what wrong with the audience? are they dead?

  • @claptongroupie

No dude, they're probably all tripping on super pure acid.

  • 1:22 Robert Plant says "a hamburger nervous breakdown"

  • @eddiespaghetti555 LOL....no, it was "I've having ah-nother nervous breakdown"...

  • My second cousins, younger brother's sister once served a hamburger to Jimmy Page's younger brother at a truck stop in Iowa.

  • @MrJbrennan12345 tht's cool!!!

  • @MrJbrennan12345 I thought page was an only child?

  • @MrJbrennan12345 cool..lol

  • I once met a guy had shook hands with the guitar tech for Led Floyd

  • I always loved Led Floyd and Pink Zepplin....Best bands ever

  • GO THE TELECASTER!!

  • YAAAAA!!! Awwwwsome video! Thanks!

  • Re: caption....pretty sure Page still is AWESOME at guitar

  • John Bonham=GOD!!!!!

  • hes like a fucking wizard on the guitar

  • was this in the film blow up by antonioni?

  • The chemistry between Page and Bonzo in this song is just sick. I have never seen such chemistry between a guitarist and a drummer.

  • oh man the end of that solo was sickness. may fav player!

  • Theres no need for a vid 'showing' how awesome page was/is.....i think u shud change the description......

  • Hes had lots of guitars stolen

  • maldita sea VIVAN los led

  • Everytime Plant screamed a person in the world were cured of cancer.

  • Weird how early Plants voice went downhill. This was PERFECT. By 1973 live stuff, he is already stuggling.

  • @joe01979 if you read my first comment..it says...i went back to see them the next night... and actually BE THERE. thus, i knew exactly what they did..each and every night.,, first night i was flying and enjoying the whole show. the second night, i just sat there on the floor, 30 feet away...and enjoyed it like normal folk. regardless of being on acid or not.... LED ZEP rocked the hell out of the place,,,both nights.

  • @joe01979

    stop saying nonsense

  • @joe01979

Just a bunch of noise??? Listen to "Little Wing", one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • @joe01979 You are so wrong.

  • @ 2:06 we hear the famous drum riff that introduces the solo in "Whole Lotta Love".

  • I don't care what anybody says- Jimmy Page is the greatest rock n roll guitarist who ever lived. Although I have a deep regard for Hendrix, I believe Page was better. He was cleaner/ more precise and could put together a solo that had you wanting more. A true legend. J Mascis is #2, Not only is Mascis a true guitar master, he is also a pedal master which propels him above what other guitarists do presently.

  • @MrMascis

Jimmy Page is better than Hendrix??

    J Mascis is #2??

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SMOKING?? Hey, thanks for the laughs, bro!! You're a gem!

  • @67goldtops

    page is better than hendrix.

  • @LedSpencer2

Page couldn't put a patch on Hendrix's ass. Just listen to any post '73 Zeppelin bootlegs. Page's live playing is atrocious. Those that argue differently fail to recognize that Page was a great STUDIO guitarist who spliced solos. Unlike Hendrix, who was ALWAYS pushing his live playing. He was ALWAYS taking chances. That why everyone from SRV to Miles Davis to Satriani to Mick Taylor calls the Band of Gypsys album the best live guitar performance of all time.

  • @67goldtops Dude, have you ever seen the movie The Song Remains the Same, or the Led Zeppelin live DVD box set?

  • @leadpndguitar

I've been a Zeppelin fan since the day my older brother first played me "Over the Hills and Far Away" on vinyl. That was in 1974 when I was 7 years old. Since then I've seen Page play live over 2 dozen times. How about YOU?

  • @67goldtops Umm..if Page is such an awful guitarist why would you pay to see him over 2 dozen times????

  • @streetparade

An "Awful guitarist," you say? Where did I write that????

  • @67goldtops You're right you didn't say "awful" you said "atrocious " - I stand corrected. Here's your quote: "Page's live playing is atrocious." and you paid to see him play "atrociously" over 2 dozen times. All of which must have been post-'73 since you said you were only 7 in 1974. LOL!

  • @streetparade

Hey look, you finally learned to read! You certainly DO stand corrected. To answer your question, the reason I paid many times to see Page play live was that, despite his downfall from his '73 peak as a live player, he's still one of my favorite players & Zeppelin will always be my favorite band. That, unlike YOU, I had the opportunity to see other players, SRV, Danny Gatton, Randy Rhoads, who made me realize Page's short-comings, doesn't diminish my respect for him.

  • @67goldtops I THINK YOU ARE ALLFUCKED IN THE HEAD BITCHES .....ITS NOT EVEN A CONTEST .IF IT IS LETS BRING OUT THE BIG BOYS . CLAPTON , WINWOOD . SHIT THEY ALL HAVE THERE OWN STYLE.........FUCK OFF

  • @jujubleuu

Winwood is one of the big boys?? HAHA!! You're funny. Hey remember, those meds only work when you take them. OK, Cock-smooch?

  • i was at a show just like this in 69. i was about 30 feet away on LSD. i went back the next night to see them again, and to actually 'be there'. they did the whole first album each night. it was as incredible as you could ever imagine. they seem a 'tame..' at this show, probably cause the stage is so small. it's great to see this footage and remember how incredible it really was, and so you kids can see how the real sh*t went down. groups today,,,are much more about the 'show' than the talent.

  • NO band can reach this coolness of LED ZEPPELIN

purest and sexiest rock n roll EVER !

  • my God, is Jimmy awesome ..... or freakin' what?

  • within a few years they grow from this concerts to big big big big big audience concerts

  • i like how he went from a telecaster to the Les Paul and his sound got heavier :)

  • :O what year was this?

  • This was filmed in Copenhagen, Denmark.

  • @MisterFruitbowl This was filmed in your momma's house.

  • 7 eat crap!

  • Cómo se nota que JPJ no le vendió el alma al diablo: no lo enfocan en toda la grabación...

  • I know this video's supposed to be about Page, but I couldn't help but notice that monster beating on the drums, Mr John Bonham!

  • @MrSmiley1964 It's about the best rock band ever. :)

  • @rkc5150 What can I say? Whenyou're right you're right :)

  • @MrSmiley1964

it is hard to believe that folks critisized bohnam for beat the drums too hard

  • @MrSmiley1964 It's always about John Bonham. I will beat the drums until music comes out of them.

  • @inibo I've seen many people try to beat the music out of their drums. John Bonham was one of the few who could get the music out of them every time

  • @MrSmiley1964 Yeah, the sum of the parts is always greater than the whole... in this case Zeppelin showing their chemistry that made them exponentially explosive.... no better example than ight here.

  • @deweypug This is one of my favorite videos, I watch it all the time. I wonder if the audience had any idea that they were watching history in the making

  • ferme ta gueule et écoute brother

  • Did he use his wah pedal to get that sick trebly tone for the guitar solo??

  • @jackman94 sounds like it

  • This is from Copenhagen yes?

  • plant's voice was awesome on the first two records

  • How hard it must've been for the audience to enjoy the show sitting cross-legged :)

  • Raw talent, what a band. Best wishes from The Black Dogz

  • Can someone explain this for me. Jimmy Page used this tele for a lot of sessions, but he also bought a 3 pickup les paul custom with the money he earned, it was stolen right after led zeppelin II, a year before he switched to les pauls, retiring his tele. Why did he not use that les paul custom on Led Zepp I?

  • @PBANDSNOW my guess would be that he liked the tele better.

  • @rkc5150 He said loved that LP, wouldnt it be nice to be able to ask him?

  • @PBANDSNOW I know someone that toured with him as a guitar tech... I'll ask him and get back to you on it. (seriously)

  • @rkc5150 Seriously? That would be sweet, thank you.

  • @rkc5150 and???

  • @rkc5150 so...what happened? Don't BS a BS'er

  • @rkc5150 In fact Jeff Beck gave a Tele to Page and he used it in STH solo. I wonder is this that Tele?

  • @The12Child no, it's not.

  • @rkc5150 He didn't have it yet. Zep I was recorded in '68 late '69 and released in '69. He was using the Tele from the Yardbirds days still. Then between the 1st album and the 2nd album the custom was stolen so he never got a chance to record with it, I think. Then he bought the '58 #1 Les Paul Standard from Joe Walsh in time to make the heavy songs for II.

  • @YARBLES1969 he had the custom at the time of Zep I. the custom was stolen in '70 after mods were made to it and he blamed TWA airlines. if you watch "bring it on home" from the Royal Albert Hall 3/17/70 concert he's playing it. so he had it even after Zep II was recorded. #1 is actually a '59 LP as is #2.

  • @YARBLES1969 Yeah I guess you're right RAH was '70, right? Do you know what he recorded with the custom? 2? All of it?

  • @PBANDSNOW Most likely his thoughts on his sound evolved. The les paul is fatter and thicker sounding, better for live playing and more versatile. It stays in tune better. That said, some of his best playing is on a tele; the guitar solo on Stairway to Heaven, as well as Led Zep I. Many of their best tracks have him playing the les paul on one track and the tele on another. It gives that classic zep sound. But I always thought he switched due to the durability/versatility of the les paul on stage

  • @SuperDoesitreallymat

I wouldn't say a Les Paul is more versatile than a tele. Nor would I say it stays in tune better. It definitely does give a fatter sound. An LP works especially well with a bright sounding amp like a Marshall, which makes me think his increasing use of Marshalls might have driven his move to the LP somewhat. A LP is definitely not as durable as a tele, but its shorter scale length makes it easier to play live. That may have been another factor.

  • @1Doz That's weird that I wrote that the les paul stays in tune better as mine goes out of tune much easier than my teles. But I do think it's more versatile. With the dedicated tone and volume knobs for each pickup, you can quickly and easily switch between drastically different volumes and tones, which is definitely a technique Jimmy used ALOT live. I love my teles probably more than my les paul, but I also recognize that sonically it is more limited than a les paul or strat, for that matter.

  • @SuperDoesitreallymat

I've never seen Page touch his tone knobs and the easiest way to get different volumes is to adjust the volume, which you can do on a tele. Can you point to a vid where he uses volume presets to switch between volumes? I'm not sure that I've seen this, or if he does do it, it didn't strike me as being central to his technique. To me LPs and teles have roughly the same limitations. Strats have more sounds. I have one of each tho' and couldn't choose a fave. All good.

  • @1Doz I can't point to a vid where he does this, although I have read articles which mention this technique. I'm not saying it's central, but that he does use it. In particular I would note the guitar solos for SIBLY and Heartbreaker. But the larger point is about the les paul, on which you can have drastically different tones instantly, wheras on the tele it's not as easy. Possible, yes, but not as easy. But as far as Page's reasons, my opinions are mere speculation and based on my experience.

  • @1Doz You can clearly see at :44 the toggle's in the lead position, while at 1:05 it's in the rhythym, and Page is clearly playing a lead there. Now, there are only so many close ups of page's playing (you can also catch him adjusting the volume at one point), but it's an illustration that he'll switch pickups during a solo. with a LP the tone can be subtly shifted in this way, wheras a tele the change would be more drastic.

  • @SuperDoesitreallymat

Yeah, it's not too uncommon for people to switch between pickups during a solo. I guess I don't see that as a unique LP thing. Nor do I see how switching between pickups on a LP is more subtle than on a tele. To me you get pretty distinct tones with each.

And to be honest, I see a LP's two vol controls as a bit of a limitation when you're in the mid position because you have to move two knobs to adjust volume while keeping the pickups balanced. W/ a tele it's 1 knob.

  • @1Doz Everything you're saying is true, but the fact that you can have different tone and volume settings for each pickup on the lester just speaks to the greater versatility of tonal possibilities, in my opinion. But I think your point about the marshalls is a good one. I sort of grew up with fenders so, to me, the difference between the lead and rhythm pickups on the LP is not as distinct. Jimi Hendrix once said the Tele has two tones: Good and Bad. I disagree, but that's his opinion...

  • @PBANDSNOW Or maybe because he had already recorded LZ I when he bought the Black Beauty. Plus, the tele was a gift from Jeff Beck. Or it was the strat?

  • @MrLino He bought the black beauty in 63, Beck gave him that tele in 68.

  • @PBANDSNOW I believe the rationale came because the LP he got off Joe Walsh had it's neck slimmed down a bit, which fit him better. Each guitar speaks to the person in a different way... Only thing I can think of is that #1 (from Joe Walsh) just "spoke to him" more than the Tele did.

  • @PBANDSNOW men, jimmy´s friend, jeff beck gift him the telecaster.

In Led Zepp beggins he wanted to call the band "The New Yardbirds" so he wanted to use the same guitar.

Too late Led Zeppelin I was recording and no time to buy a new guitar and learn how to use it, its not the same how to play to how to use.

  • @AnToZ1213 Jimmy already had a les paul, it was his favourite guitar. He liked it more than the tele

  • @PBANDSNOW cause he still had love left for his tele

  • @PBANDSNOW I'm not try to say it was for this reason or not, but I think that he never toured with Black Beauty(three pup, all black LP) because it was his studio guitar, he used it as a studio musician. I also bet he used the Tele on Led Zeppelin I because it was his newest "toy". I mean, wouldn't you want to use your newest guitar also?

  • @PBANDSNOW THe three pick up les paul was stolen from him. He put an add out in guitar world about it saying he would buy it back but it was gone forever

  • @sanctuary1221 It was stolen in 1970, LZ I was recorded in 1969.

  • @PBANDSNOW oops i miss read the original post.

  • Early Zep is the greatest thing ever. I can only wonder the impact they caused those days. I love the way Jonesy and Bonham fill the song background (there are no empty spaces) and how Jimmy can sound a Tele...

  • @patrobinson700 Rickenbacker Transonic designed by Bob Rissi

  • Nana, not early Led Zep, just Led Zep.

  • i actuelly think this was in copenhagen, Denmark :)

  • RAW ROCK & ROLL .... the music execs would never go for it again....

  • Joe Walsh gave Jimmy a '59 Les Paul.

  • look at friggin Bonham funukin go man! gaaaaad dayum! I miss that guy!

  • I prefer Plant's voice here than in later performances.

  • what they get out of those shitty amps is fuckin insane. insane bassline jimmy page GUITARGOD, Plant coolest guy on the planet and bonham simply rapes that shitty kiddy-drumkit

  • nice guitar riff !!!!!!!!

  • nice guitar riff!!!!

  • Around that time, they would have been solid guests on The Tom Jones Show.

Tom could have easily traded off on this one.

  • Damn, Robert voice change a LOT, but that just make it awesome, Jimmy Page, without words, the guitar is a part of him.

  • He used this telecaster almost exclusively in the studio. Including on the stairway to heaven solo...

  • @BrianMorrison71 yeah but he used that les paul customs when he was a studio musician.

  • @BrianMorrison71 and the whole lotta love solo

  • @BrianMorrison71 Actually he never used it again. At least not in that form. Thinking that he was doing him a favor, one of Jimmy's friends painted over the body ruining it. He refitted the neck to a new all black body that he used again on Physical Graffiti.

  • @atonypro Actually, that was the guitar he used on the entire first album. It was beck's guitar...

  • @BrianMorrison71 Correct. But never used again till Graffiti when the neck was refitted to a different body.

  • holyshit....

  • Can't beat the feel of a Fender neck. All the greats have realized this.

  • Why is it that Plant always singed way higher in the albums?

  • @dalluc because its badass!

  • Telecaster are sweet! I

  • He did most of his stuff on a tele even wrote sth on it. Never saw him do it live with it though always the dub neck monster. but the tele was his main go to.

  • 4 GREAT talents were put together by destiny to become the worlds best rock band.

Imagine that this is only the beggining!

  • Jimmy Page is the best

  • Damn, Bonham's getting into those drums.

  • Wasn't the famous solo for" Stairway to Heaven", recorded with that Tele? He used the double-neck on stage because of the twelve string parts of the song.

  • @TomSpartan218 Page made a tele talk. Roy Buchanan could make it cry. Two great Tele-Masters, two different approachs

  • lol Bonham xD

  • Led Zeppelin was perfect in everyway

  • Wow Jimmy, you are the best guitar player ever!!!!!!!

  • jimmy page is the damn man, god, anything...

  • Perfect! U see what drugs & drink put an dend to? Took it away.... Zepp was THE BAND.

  • @JimmyPagesSoloLover Drugs and drink also had alot to do with creating the Zeps music.

  • @Tecumseh1812 Didnt Tecumseh go out of business?

  • @JimmyPagesSoloLover out of business?

  • @JimmyPagesSoloLover no The Band is actually the name of another really good band :) srry for being a smart ass!! :P

  • @abar1204 Yeah, I also like "The Band" and as far as the smart ass thingy-I missed that part? You can be a smart ass....it's fine with me. :-)-

  • and this was the beginning of "hard rock"

  • Tele Metal!!

  • I heard that the solo for stariway was recorded on that same tele. Is this true?

  • @ufc70wasnotasbombas7 Yea. Jimmy used the Tele for the first album and then used it again for the solo on stairway. Everything else was pretty much a Les Paul unless it was slide.

  • @ufc70wasnotasbombas7 anecdotal evidence shows that the solo for stairway was recored with "a tele that Jeff Beck bought him"

  • How can three people dislike this?!

  • even though im a les-paul-guy, i think page did best with his tele, Ex: whole lotta love and stairway to heaven solos both played by his tele

  • is this 1968?

  • Supposedly, Page used a Tellie and Supro amp for most of the songs on the first two albums. On stage, he went to a Les Paul and Marshall set up.

  • he is not totally out of key! and... just some nice guitar screams...

  • did he use that tele on the first album?

  • @AraGuitar yup

  • @rkc5150 To my knowledge he used an Esquire fo Communication Breakdown.

  • He used a 58 Tele and Supro Combo for the first couple of albums

  • @rkc5150 Telecaster is a great rock guitar , especially distorted!

  • @rkc5150 He bought the Les Paul from Joe Walsh before the second album. He also played the solo from Stairway on s telecaster.

  • @AraGuitar first, most of the second, and a little on just about every album

  • @AraGuitar he used teles for almost everything recorded in the studio. the solo for stairway to heaven was also recorded with one. he like the les paul and marshall for live work, but in the studio he used old danelectro amps

  • @AraGuitar yeh some of, he used it for the solo on stairway too

  • As I understand it (but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong), Jimmy used the Tele in the studio for the first couple of albums (58 Tele) and also a Supro combo.

  • @ArthurtwoSheds

I'd say the first album was basically all tele. The second album sounds like there's a lot of LP going on to me. Sometimes it can be hard to tell when there's a lot of fuzz though. Page also liked to use the combined pickup position which sounds similar on a LP and a tele.

  • @AraGuitar Many people told me he always used (or keep using) a Tele in sessions. Don't know if it's true, but I couldn't hear a Les Paul guitar in Zep albums, except the live ones (Tele and Les have an evident difference of sound).

  • @AraGuitar He used a tele on the first three and on the solo for Stairway if I'm not mistaken.

  • @pavement27 Actually the guitar that he played in the vid, was the same to record the Stairway solo in 1971.

  • @TrafficMind10 Actually this guitar is gift from Jeff Beck :P

  • Jimi Page's best stuff was circa 1957.......check the video.

  • 1:45 wrong key XD

    Led Zppelin still rocks though
