I have been searching for an answer all over the net. So I'd be grateful if anyone can answer; is there a way to select different channels using you MIDI controller.
e.g. I have a click knob and for each click it makes i want logic to select one channel up or down from the previous one (depending on which ay I turn the knob).
This would be really practical for live performances since I only have one keyboard and my laptop isn't always that reachable.
I have a problem with this, which is that it doesn't save the assignments with the project, they seem to be global assignments for Logic so the same assignments are still there when I open up a new project.
Kinda annoying! It means I either have to delete all the old assignments and do it again.
I just used latch but now I wanna get rid of the rid fading I just did and do it again but it keeps using the first one I did! How do I get rid of that and start using a clean slate for latching new fades?
I need help! I have a record button on my Akai MPK61 and I need to know if I can map that to the record button in logic? And same with moving left and right to select track, I have left and right buttons as well!
Hi I can do this ok, but when I record the track, moving synth parameters, that movement is not recorded. How do I get logic to record the control changes I make during the performance?
@backshortly I got a lot of questions on this topics... I will be doing a video on that this week to show how to record your automation data... So check back this week for the video this week...
@imamusicmogul you don't need to do a whole video on this,
Just open automation view by pressing 'A' and where it says "read" just click on that and select the "latch" option. Latch mode allows you to record whatever you are manipulating whilst the track is playing.
So just set it to 'Latch', play the track, manipulate whatever it is you want to manipulate, Then set it back to 'Read' and your manual data will be recorded. and ready to play.
@backshortly P.s. It's important to make sure you remember to take it off of the 'Latch' setting and switch it back to 'Read' when you are done because any parameter you change on that channel will be recorded into the automation in Latch mode.
how can 1 assign faders 1-4 to tracks 1-4, respectively? i can assign all four faders but cannot control the volume of my 4 tracks unless i actually select the track in Logic Pro 9. so if i select track 1 in Logic Pro, i cannot control the volume fader for track 4 (fader 4). what am i doing wrong? thx!
can you map samples to pads in logic? like i want to have a voice sample that goes "ooh" on a pad. and then i want a fader on a knob? is this possible
ok now try this.. Make two synth's, put a controller on the cutoff of synth 1, put a controller on the cutoff of synth 2.. Now try and turn the knobs of the synth's at the same time.. Doesn't work, does it? fuckin logic crap.. And if I try to change the channel strip from selected track to fader bank.. it still does not work! Getting so tired of this stupid shit.. They should take a look at ableton's assignment method's.. I hope shit works better in logic 9..
Hey, this is a nice video, and it does the job, but I have the M-Audio Axiom 25 and can't seem to figure out how to assign the Transport Bar (play, stop, loop) to my MIDI buttons. I'm 99% sure this should be possible. Thanks in advance.
Two issues: 1. When I reconnect my Keystation to my macbook I get a different port, I assume I have to learn for port 1 & 2 (I hope it doesn't get more than that)
2. Is it possible to control say the EXS 24 when you select the track with the EXS 24 as a plugin and switch to say ES1 when you switch to a track with ES1?
Question (3): Is it possible to control 3rd party plugins? I have a Tassman and it does not seem to work
hi... great tutorials man ....... anyway im lookin for a synth(arp) sound exactly like in the 0.03 to 0.06 could you tell me the patch name and wht softsynth/hardware you got it from thanks
i have an oxygen49 and i want to make it NOT control ANYTHING...all it does is fuck shit up....i just want to use the keys...screw the knobs and what not...any help?
I have a M-Audio Axiom 49 controller and I understand how to map volume, panning, faders, ect., but I can't get the (Record, stop, play, rewind/fast forward) functions to map to my MIDI controller. This would ease using the mouse for on the fly recording and editing. Any tips on how to fix this? By the way this video and the others you have posted for logic are great! thank you for the help!
@SlightlyBurton go to preferences> key commands>find the key you would like to command with your MIDI controller>Click learn new assignment>assign the midi controller> and your done.
how do I control logic's transport with the transport buttons on my MIDI controller?? It wont work at all in learn mode and doesnt seem to be an option if I try and set up a new control manually. This method works for all knobs and faders for me just not the transport controls, which would be much more useful for me to have on my MIDI contoller
How on earth do you setup simultaneous controls for different tracks?! Can't get it to work. I want to control two synth's on different tracks at the same time.. Has anyone done this?
If you have a midi controller setup to control the plugins and volume on a track, is it possible to edit the track in real time, and record your movements as automations? For example, if I'm using a mixer to control logic through midi, and i have some faders setup to control volume, and another setup to control filter cutoff, can I play the song and simultaneously change the volume and filter cutoff, and then save that as a midi track and use it to control the track when I play it back?
@boldstandard yes, you can... Just set up the fader and knob.. Looks like you already did that... Above your pan pot you should see a blank rectangle... click that and hit latch, write, or touch, (all different type, I will explain in a video on day) and hit play and start moving the fader... After you are done.. change the write, touch, latch to read and logic will play back all of the information you just recorded...
@imamusicmogul Is there a way to send the automation out from logic back to a synthesizer, so that it controls parameters on the synthesizer (using the synth as a slave and logic as the controller) in real time?
cool that helped a lot one question i have 2 midi keyboards i want to set like one for synth lead and lead types stuff and the other for pianos and such how can i go about doing that.
Hey RachelleLang.. It take some wiring to get that done (to use the sounds off of your keyboard). You need to take the MIDI out of your Keyboard into the MIDI IN on your Interface and the MIDI out of your interface into your MIDI IN of your keyboard.. Then create a new MIDI track. Then the in on that track is your MIDI In from you Interface, and the Out is your Interface MIDI out. Let me know if you understand this before I go onto recording the sound...
Ok- So I'm new to the whole midi- controller thing- I've used logic a lot, but I record live instruments- I've never done anything with midi controllers at all.
I'm going to buy a midi controller but I don't know which one is good for what I need-
I'd like a 61 to 88 controller and either semi weighted keys for full weighted- price range is 200-300
I play piano and will be using my controller for an actual piano sample as well as other synths
hey romans421... I think your best bet is to check out the M-Audio controllers... They are of great value and quality... They have both 6 and 88 - key models of their keyboards.. You have to also consider the additional knobs and fader on the keyboard for programming.. M-Audio is real good for the price range you provided.. Let me know if you have any other questions..
@ romans421 hi guys, I'm interested to know which keyboard you bought and how you like it? I'm using an Akai MPK88 which I love... I just bought Logic and hope it's not too difficult to set everything up with the controller, transport etc...
thank you!!! Check out Tutorial #10 on how to configure your Control Surface. It takes this video to the next level with advanced techniques on using your MIDI controller.... You answer should be answered there......
I think I watched that one too.. it seems the controls only work sometimes. Like for instance I did the faders for eight tracks, I set them all up and it was good to go. But every time a track switches, say track 6 is replaced, does the control go away? Is there a way that the faders on my MIDI are by default assigned to the DAW Faders 1-8 regardless of which one is there or if they're switched or not? Same goes for the all the different sound editors being assigned to knobs.
The controls don't go away when a track is replaced. Basically all logic looks for is where the "first" track is. so if you bank over to the sixth track. Fader number 1 on your control surface will be controlling it. Track 7 will be fader 2. Track 8 will be fader 3, and so on. Some MIDI controllers come with presets. Maybe yours did!! Go to where it says Logic Pro in the top left corner then go to preferences then control surfaces then set-up and add new. Your controller might be there.
This is great... but how do you SAVE the settings so Logic will remember all the learned settings. I set up all 16 channels on my mixer to work with 16 channels in Logic (faders, pan, mute etc) but when I shut down Logic and restarted, none of my settings were there and I had to re-learn the mixer to the computer from scratch :-(
hey, this is a quick way to assign controls, did you add your keyboard to Logic's list of control surfaces? Usually if your keyboard is a popular brand, when you assign the control surface in Logic it comes with some presets... Like have your faders set-up with Logic faders.....
When they are learned, how do i undo it...?
