Don't unload this way. Just use the shell release lever. It's right behind the shells in the magazine. Depress the shell elevator and press the shell release. That's what it's there for.
Great tip! A lot of folks just cycle 'em through. I've seen a lot of accidental discharges that way. Will use this with my 870, but it won't work with my Ithica M37. No side ejection port.
@HawkLMT An even easier method is to simply use your thumb to press the shell lifter up from the bottom and press the retention spring that holds the round in the magazine. The shell will pop out into your hand. This method is much faster, doesn't require you to swing the firearm around to tip shells out, and will also work for bottom-ejecting models like the Ithica 37 (though you may bruise your thumb while getting the hang of it, depending on the strength of your magazine spring).
You can always replace the forarm grip on the 870. The make the Remington 870 security shotgun with this stupid forearm that looks ugly which is $100 less then the Remington 870 Tactical Shotgun. The only difference is the one that is a $100 less does not come with the window breaker and that extra stuff.
The video doesn't chamber a single round during the unloading. He doesn't completely cycle the action between rounds. Only brings the fore-end back to bring a round out of the magazine, then tips it until the round falls out, THEN cycles forward.
As scuds03 said, you're a dumbass, and probably a liberal too. "Oh mercy sakes alive, a loaded gun on YouTube! Close this account immediately!"
Not at all. When you fire a round the hammer strikes the firing pin firing the round. At the same time it unlocks the slide allowing you to rack the action.
@supersteve9219 NEGATIVE!!! receiver must match barrel with same gauge, and there's more to it than just that-reference manufacturer's specs as to what barrels fit on what guns...-generally, if you want a different gauge you need a different gun.....
It's a Remington. That's what the forend looks like on the newer short barrel 870 Express models.I have the 5 shot version and it has the same stock and forend. If you go onto the Remington website it shows a different sytle stock and forend??
@kittypoo1981 This is an 870 I have the exact same gun which I've purchased from remington. It's the grip for the newer 870 Express Security Models. The N870's forend is nothing like this one.
Gees. You don't chamber a round using the appropriate method, as it clearly exits below the chamber since the tongue is in the up position. A round literally rolls through the chamber using your method as the tongue is in the down position when the shell roles out.
If you had watched the video that this was a response to, you'd see that the gentlemen in the video was unloading his shotgun by chambering each round and then racking it out of the chamber. I don't have a mossberg so I can't even pretend to know where the shell latch is on it.
Also just for your future reference, the chamber is what the round sits in when the weapon is loaded and ready to fire. I was bringing the rounds through the breach and never got near actually chambering a round..
So it is clear you dont really know how to operate that weapon. You DO NOT rack each round out, dumping them. You should only work the action all the way back to within approximately 3/4th's of an inch with the tongue in the raised position. You should be able to much more quickly and easily remove the rest of the shells by depressing the tab on the inside of the magazine. When done properly, each shell will pop out individually.
I know all about using the shell latch to remove the rounds. I just figured this would be a preferable alternative to chambering a round each time you wanted to remove a round from the magazine. .

This is a COMPLETELY UNSAFE, amateur procedure to cycle live rounds through the action as a means to unload the 870 shotgun.

@webb448 You are a dumb-ass liberal who probably has never even touched an 870. WTF else would you unload out of you'r gun? Dirt clods?

supersteve9219 2 years ago
yea it aint bad even with slugs and turkey load...Kinda wish I got 12 gauge longer range though
cchili 2 years ago
@cchili Im not 100% sure but don't you only need to change the barrel so that you can shoot 12 gauge rounds?

do you think the 870 would be a good backpacking/hiking gun?.. or would it be to heavy? i'm in canada so no hand guns for me!
zombieknifenut 2 years ago
Don't think you could go wrong with the 870 or the Mossberg shotguns. The mossbergs will be lighter due to the alloy receiver.
