Clive should put together a tribute album in the same way he did when Luther Vandross died. He should get the greatest singers of today to pay tribute to Whitney. Celine should sing this song.
I always hated this song, regardless of who sang it... until I heard Celine sing it. I love her version and now I finally understand people who like the other versions!
@PrinceKhaalid1984 Well, Celine couldn't speak english at this time yet, and didn't even understand what she was singing. That probably made it hard for her to emote. But I agree, even if Celine did know english, Whitney would still have sung it better.
I'm confused, is this Céline or madonna? I mean, since they both have amazing voices I can't really tell Lol yeah right, madonna can barely speak haha. I love whatever céline does, and personally I don't think it lacks emotion even though she didn't speak English back then. How come all we hear nowadays is garbage like madonna, britney, gaga? :S
This must be from 1985/1986 at the latest. Probably worth bearing in mind she couldn't speak a word of English at this time, and this version loses an emotional edge because of that.
@jamesmt142 Right, but as a singer myself I don't think it's the lack of language that makes a singer lose emotions in singing. Celine sang the words really well despite the fact that English is not her 1st language. I've seen plenty of singers from other countries, sang this song and none of them seemed dull to me. The words in this song are already powerful so it's really impossible for a singer or listener to feel no emotions when singing or listening to this. Unless they have a cold heart.
@popups46okay Oh no, I get that. I was thinking more along the lines of her not totally understanding what she was singing. It took me ages to really "feel" "Pour-Que Tu M'aimes Encore" for the same reason. In any case, Whitney's is the definitive version.
There is a video snippet of her performing this now on youtube. This is her just very early on, no one else has such control and such power as Celine.
Is this celine i keep listening i don't think it is but then i can hear some bits that sound like her vocal skill's and it is very good so i can't work it out.

Such voices are born one in a thousand years, or never, if you ask me. Celine has such a voice. The thing I'm most proud of, is being her fan.

In 1987, Celine Dion performed this song on the french canadian TV special Station Soleil.
Whitney Houston originally performed this song on her album Whitney Houston released in 1985.
