  • great demo brother !

  • Oh, and I use an American Tele.

  • Hey Burgs! I am about to get me a Catalinbread pedal finally. I love DLS since I watched your demos, but now I found about the Formula No. 5 and looks tasty indeed. I play rock-pop with a bluesy vintage sound and sometimes I love to crank things up. Which one would you recommend? I saw you are pretty much into the No. 5 right now. Thanks and say hi to Sadie from Mexico City!

  • Sadie is the cutest child on earth!Love the D.L.S. too.

  • Cool video guys! Gooooo Sadie!

  • Brett I didn't know brierley pickups were hound wound! You have confirmed for me a long held suspicion that my basset isn't living up to his potential, I think it's time to put him to work ;)

I will now repeat what everybody else says: Thanks for making some great videos, shopping for new gear would be harder and less fun without them.

  • Grace Potter Junior :)

    You guys Rock!!!!

  • The girl is so cute that she is the most interesting part of the video, she is talented for rock n roll! :-) Best wishes!

  • I played through one of these last night. I'm not a pedal guy at all, but I gotta get one of these!

  • Yeah i too told myself i won't buy any more distortions , and now i'm gonna buy 2 of them . What's the main difference between this and SFT . Initialy I wanted to buy either DLS or SFT and another dirt box . What would be better with a strat and a marshall vintage modern , or should i just buy DLS and SFT ?

  • Just built a clone of this pedal :) it kicks ass!!! I love the warm bass, it has serious balls to the sound

  • When I get married to my girlfriend and we settle down and have kids we better have a daughter that cute. ;) haha. And she BETTER love rock 'n roll. Nice demo! Makes me want to get that pedal! One question: what does the ROCK/RAWK switch do? I'm guessing RAWK has more gain or something? Thanks. :)

  • @TheDancingSaxophone Haha, thanks for that. I'm flattered as I'm sure Sadie would be.

Rock/Rawk changes the gain mode from something that resembles an older JTM/JMP to a more recent and more aggressive JCM sound.

Cheers and good luck with the breeding. At least the practice is fun.

  • Try to plug a microamp before him,to increase the gain,it sounds very good

  • I am torn between this and the Fulltone OCD for an OD pedal with my Lionheart L5T and a LP. I want vintage marshally sounds. Think Led Zep, JTM, early plexi. Which you would recommend? My top preference is the Wampler Plexidrive but I can't find anyone used and with shippingit gets 50-60 euros more expensive than the other two.

  • @GabrielGR This. Easy.

  • Yo Burg! Which do you like better, Providence OD Stampede or Dirty Little Secret? Providence OD Stampede sounded AMAZING in your demo through the the Lionheart and Les Paul. Any chance for a shootout between the two?

  • You are the luckiest man on earth, lovely daughter and guitar skill galore

  • Nice pedal but the Barber direct drive creams this. Good though.

  • @SHEMAMAN So you've tried both back to back in the real world, then? I'd like to.

  • so cute!!!!

please allow me to call you Dad!!

  • Great video....really enjoyed it...you play great..thanks for the demo...I think I might have to buy one of those.... :-)

  • 5:08 I wouldn't mind a left hand view of that riffin'. Classy.

  • that bridge pickup souns amazing!!!

  • Daughter's a real sweetheart, eh?

  • I was gonna say something about the pedal but your guitar skills blew me away!

  • Have you tried this pedal with a Vox Ac 15 or 30?

  • @jaimejoshua100 Nope, not yet. I don't own either (unfortunately!)

  • Two things I wish for but will never have, great guitar chops and a sweet little daughter. I envy you, my friend. I do want to tell you that I bought this pedal based on your video. That's number two that you convinced me to go for. The videos are very helpful and entertaining. Cheers.

  • So what do you think hhow would the Dirty Little Secret sound in front of an Fender Super Reverb 4x10" RI? Thanks you both :-)

  • @Telesoundssogood I reckon it would sound amazing. But I can only speculate as I haven't tried it with one of those amps (oh, what I'd give for one though..!)

  • hey...what do you think how would the dls sound on a fender super reverb ri? thanks. you both are great :-)

  • If there is anything that makes ANY human (Male or female) absolutely adorable....it's a british accent. You and your daughter are oodles of cute.

The pedal is great but I prefer the T-rex.

    Dm

  • @Detman101 Thanks DM. I should point out though, that we're Australian, not British. Lovely compliment though - thanks! :)

  • @Detman101 I totally agree with you about the british accent. But I prefer the way huge's pork loin.

  • thanks burgerman!

  • COOL !

  • i hope Sadie plays drums!

  • There is a lot of Keith's OD'd amp, Stones-tones in that pedal.

  • Hey burgerman, whats your top 5 overdrive pedals, your top 5 modulation and delay pedals. thanks for your reviews man, they are awesome, congrats to sadie as well, great team.

  • @ziggy8757 That list is ever changing unfortunately so I can't really say. I'll do a Best of 2010 at the end of the year. How's that?

  • nice ob sliding in led zeppelin there ;D

  • Hi,

I work at Dick's Country Store thanks for wearing the Tee Shirt. I think your Daughter needs one, can we send her a Small or a medium and were can we send it?

When we open up our down under branch I'll let you know :)

You can email me the address at musicoasis@verizon.net

  • HEY!!!!

I've been to Dick's! My wife grew up in that area and we visit every summer. I have that exact tee shirt.

  • @mstrtumnus Lucky you! All I got was the T-Shirt. One day.. :)

    Thanks for watching.:)

  • Very nice your sound!

  • What a great video....tons of fun and great tones. Well done Sadie and Burgs! ;-)

  • @FatSoundGuitar Thank you Mr Fat Sound! We aim to please and are happiest when we do. If you have anything you need covered, please give us a yell through PM. Best, BK.

  • That's around the cutest vids I've seen. You seem to be a real good dad...and a real good player which makes you a real cool guy in my opinion! ATB

  • Brett, probably this is the best stomp review ever! Love it. So true! :-)

  • Great demo. Cute kid.

  • This was the single most entertaining gear demo ever...

  • Meh wantz one! You play pretty damn good, I bet you make any pedal sound killer. That's actually the reason I sometimes prefer to watch gear demos done by guitarist who are even worse then myself. If they sound good with a certain amp/pedal/guitar, then I'm sure it'll work for me:)

  • the best demo ever cute little girl you guys look like your having a blast

  • Thanks! We did.. Are!! :)

  • Awesome video in every respect! Your daughter is a doll. I have a daughter about the same age.

  • love it.......

  • could this be used just as a boost to an already overdriven amp.

  • @taygoo13 dude just buy a boost pedal like the picosso

  • funny demo!!!

  • Probably best demo on youtube!!!

  • Thanks for the demo! And what a cute kid you got. :)

  • haha dont put the guitar right in her ears again!

great demo as usual. i bought a crunch box after seing your review and now i'm gonna do the same with the DLS. sounds so good!

  • The wife and I talked about how cute your daughter was through the whole demo...after watching again this pedal sounds great! I have been told that the voicing of the pedal is close to a 1987 Marshall Silver Jubilee. Would you that is true? Thanks.

  • Never heard of these before today but now I'm sold! Thanks for the review! Your daughter's adorable, nice to see the next generation rocking out!

  • would u please compare DLS with the super plextortion

    thanks

  • Sorry, I can't as I don't own a Super Plextortion, nor have I tried one.

  • @Burgerman666 hi.. im just wondering if that tele is american standard? thanks

  • Yep. Circa 2001 I believe. The pickups have been swapped out for Brierley Hand Wounds.

  • wow sounds fantastic with a tele! you've got me convinced. i was leaning towards a few other pedals but the DLS sounds like the winner at about the same price as the others i was looking at. you guys are so cute together haha. great work :]

  • Thank for the demo guys.

  • Nice demo. I ordered own DLS, so I'm psyched, can't wait!!! also your daughter is so pretty cute. X)

I have Tokai old LS-80. They kick ass! eh?

  • Yup. Those Tokai's ..man, there's something about them, eh? I've got a Burny SG now, made by Tokai, I believe. It's beautiful, too.

Hey, thanks for watching. Enjoy your DLS. :)

  • Great video, very useable but als o very, very heartbreakin, funny! I've got a six year old daughter myself and I regognised a lot of her funny/very very mature behaviour! Great clip!

  • Thank you! Daughters are great, eh? Cheers and thanks for watching. :)

  • Great demo! Very nice sounding pedal and the cutest little kid ever! My three boys cover their ears and run when I plug up. Maybe it's the player!

  • Heheh. Thanks! I get a fair share of ear-covering and polite door closing too, you know! Thanks for watching. :)

  • I assume that's your daughter, she's so cute:)

  • What was that first guit you were playing?

  • Tokai Love Rock LSQ75 - Japanese. Nice, eh?

  • Beautiful Top! Hope she plays as good as she looks!

  • Great demo. I need one of these now! Great sounding Love Rock, too, by the way!

  • It's a great pedal!

    I love it!

  • ...I told myself I wasn't going to buy another distortion pedal!

  • @dirtyzine Dammit, me TOO

  • @dirtyzine hi isnt this more of an OD rather than dist? :D thanks coz planning to buy one and already got the suhr riot to go for my dist

  • Very good, I didn't think pedal demos could be that funny :)

  • Take a look at the 'Toggled Tims and Hermaphrodites' video - she's really on fire. :) Funny kid.

  • Love the pedal, but still better is your review!!!

    Keep rockin´ ;)

  • what mic did you use to record this? amazing demo btw, Sadie is awesome :D

  • Thanks! The mic is a Violet Design 'The Amethyst' electrostatic studio mic. I think they're made in Finland by a small but dedicated company. A little pricey but it seems to be doing the job. Sadie is a Burgs and Elisabeth design. :D

  • Wow the tele sounded so full...sounded nothing like single coils...I need this and a compressor and there's some rhythm and leads :)

  • have you tried the other slider switch setting in the back of the pedal on the board? If you have, which do you think sounds better?

  • I think that slider is only available on V2. :(

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Burg, your daughter was made to be in front of the camera.

  • Fantastic vid, a great ambassador (official or not!)

    Cheers

  • Thanks! And I'm unofficial (just for the record). Maybe an honorary member or something like that. :)

  • Brett, there is the DLS Rev.2! A lot more gain!

Another thing, have you tried DLS with 18v?

    Thanks again!

  • Rev. 2? I like the sound of that. 18V? Yes, all of the footage with Suds dancing is with the DLS running at 18V. That's the way I like it.

  • I was really happy with mine until it broke down and Catalinbread refused to honor the warranty..

  • is it true bypass?

  • Yep.

  • yeah there is one retailer however its down in london so ill have to contact Catlinbread

  • is the pedal good for all style uses? i need a good distorted sound for more pop punk stuff but we do play harder things so it needs to be versatile:P

  • Hmm. In all honesty I'd say look a little further, maybe to the Catalinbread Supercharged Overdrive for the stuff you're doing. This is more your classic rock pedal; great for pure rock 70's tones and that sort of stuff. You'd be wanting something a little more aggro I reckon. The SCOD will do it. Check my video of it for an idea of what it does.

  • thanks mate ive had a listn :P im gunna take a risk and go with the DLS tho i think i can pull it off usin this and i prefer the sound :P but thanks for givin me other options to look into :)

  • in fact no argh i dunno i like both sounds but i cant try them out for myself without spending the money haha dont suppose you know if catalinbread have an exchange policy thing ? thanks

  • You'd have to contact Catalinbread through their website regarding exchange policy. I'm not sure where they stand on that front. Also, check to see whether there's a Catalinbread distributor or retailer in the UK which I assume is where you're from.

  • amazing tones! i really have to get this pedal!

  • Nice vid, and AWESOME Les Paul!

  • Thanks! The LP is a Tokai Loverock. I put some Mastertone pickups in it and it rawks!!

  • man, in 4 or 5 years u will start getting problems whit this girl, hehehe

    congrats, great video

  • Bellissimo video!!!

  • Is there any chances the DLS sounds like a Tube Screamer? Thanks.

  • Nope. The DLS is a completely different dynamic and sound. They both share the description 'overdrive' but in truth the DLS is more a 'Marshall in a box'. I'd always prefer the DLS but a TS has its uses too. The best TS 'type' of pedal on the market at the moment (IMO) is the Machine Head Pedals 72 Degrees. See my related video for more info on that one.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • At your service sir. :)

  • hi would this pedal sound good through a 60w hartke gt60 (i think its a hybrid amp wit a 12AX7 tube preamp in it) ?

    thanks

  • Hell yeah. This pedal would sound good running into a fireplace! :)

  • Great playing!!!

Man what is the setting at 1:00 min? are you using something else besides the DLS?

and how do you compare the DLS against the Silver Kiss?

  • Thanks! Setting? Umm.. I think it was just the DLS in Rock mode with the gain at around half. The Tele helps a lot and the 'room' sound you get from the crap mic in the camera helps things too. The close mic'd sound is a little more sterile. I've got to get another mic so I can mix a little bit of room in. Money, money, money...

  • The Silver Kiss is no slouch either. It's more of a traditional overdrive although extremely versatile due to its 3 band EQ and, in the case of the Trinity, it's compression and mid switching. The DLS is an unabashed Marshall in a box and it makes no bones about it. They both have their well earned place on this earth but the SK has taken a sabbatical for a while, I'm told. Grab one if you can. ;)

  • I´ve just purchased this little box from Catalinbread's website! Could not stand the G.A.S.!

    Thanks Burgs! :-)

  • Oh... I'm sorry. I mean thanks Brett!

  • hey man..you rock..and your daughter rocks too! haha..all the best!

  • Hi, I was just wondering if you could let me know whether you use 9V or 18V adapter in the video? That said, does the pedal allow for voltages in between the two and how do different ones affect the sound? thanks

  • sorry... I just noticed the adapter was not plugged in...

  • I was torn between the DLS and the Stinkbug... this video is Dirty Little Secret city, and it is good... you do justice to the name burger my friend... keep posting the kick arse equipment demos mate... i'll shout you one if we ever meet.

    regards

    sexyberger

  • because of this video, i will be buying one of these darn pedals. Best pedal demos on youtube ! And your beautiful daughter is a delight ! Keep up the good work man !!!

  • Thank you! More videos very soon. :)

  • Hey man...

Congrats on your very creative video.

Good taste for guitars, good taste for pedals, nice playing and really well produced video.

    I bet 10 bucks you're a Mac user. HA!

    Greetings from Brazil

  • Hey hey! I spent a couple of weeks in Brazil with my band back in 2001. We had a ball. Ever heard of James Reyne from a band called Australian Crawl? That's us. :)

Yes, I'm a Mac user. Always have been. I guess the iMovie templates give it away, eh?

    Cheers,

    BK

  • EXCELLENT!! Never thought that a pedal demo would bring such a smile to my face... the whole concept is great, sound quality is marvellous, your little daughter is a star, I am hooked to this pedal... everrything just fits! 5 stars and a new subscriber!!!

  • Thank you sir! It's nice to know we're putting smiles on faces in this otherwise pretty rotten world. I've been working hard to nail a decent sound and I think I'm getting there. More vids in a few days. Cheers. :) BK.

  • just so you know man, your demos are by far the most fun to watch. and you really do usually get every sound possible out of the pedal. and Sadie is just adorable. in fact, my girlfriend will only watch gear demos with me if they are yours because she thinks Sadie is so cute. so keep up the good work friend.

  • Wow, thanks! Sadie says hi. :) We'll be shooting some more in a few days. It might be time for the Timefactor I think! Thanks again.

  • WICKED VIBRATO!

  • It's a rawk bawcksAAAAAAAH!!

  • Mate - brilliant demo and a wonderful relatonship you have with your daughter there - heartwarming! :-)

  • Thanks! She's my best little friend, that's for sure. Look out for another video from us this weekend. We're going to do the DLS with a treblebooster and an MI-Audio Blues Pro. Should be fun.

  • Nice pedal! Cute little secret! :-)

  • ahahhahhhha she's so cute

  • Hi Brett.Really enjoyed your demo.A killer pedal indeed. And teach your little girl the guitar, she's gonna be a ROCK STAR.Cheers,

  • Sounds pretty impressive Brett. Does it work well through the Bassman clone too? I figure that the Laney is already kind Marshally.

  • Wow, what a great sounding pedal!
