  • @1971superlead you are probably entirely correct. High quality solar panels are not put together with flux joints, this is a clear indication of a plant that does either manual soldering, or has older automated tabbing. Oxidation, is oxidation. The problem wouldn't have worsened if it wasn't getting worse. CLEARLY a warranty claim. Good grief Jeff.

  • ... cont ... whether your customer is right or wrong. The panel is clearly wrong. And the customer is always right, have you not heard? You may know something about solar, but you clearly know nothing about business. I'm proud that I do not treat my customers like this, this is an example of a know-it-all giving lousy customer service. Shame on you Missouri.

  • So, you have a customer who bought a panel that is clearly exhibiting problems, if not corrosion, then quite possibly oxidation at the solder leads (flux problem), which, over time, could indeed POSSIBLY form corrosion, plus the cable is busted in the back, and you expect him to pull it apart and do your fix? so then you humiliate him in rebuttle (granted he could have been more polite, you're correct there...). Point is, I would have gladly refunded him and certainly not made HIM THE FOOL...

  • ty for doing this i am learning something from theses and i don't care if it had stains on it just as long as it puts out a pannel this size could i run my pc tv radio lights on it and how many watts or pannel would i need? again thank you Jeff

  • @bobinmissouri Well that depends. You could probably run your tv and lights on it through a couple of batteries.

    Jeff

  • i have seen that on panels with tree debris and pollen forming OXIDES from TANNIC ACID organic sources caused by the elevated surface temp

  • Great job Jeff! I have watched a ton of your videos in doing research for my upcoming solar projects and am now convinced I will get my stuff from Missouri Wind and Solar.

  • @antivoterfraud Thanks.

    Jeff

  • In aerospace we are not allowed to use flux when soldering. It's been outlawed for 20 years at least. So you probably don't really need to use flux to make your solar panels. Try soldering without flux. Use a lower temperature solder or a higher temp iron if you need to. Flux contaminates the solder joints. That's why they outlawed it.

  • Nice vid Jeff. I don't see how a cable gets pulled loose from the panel. I would suggest maybe changing the cable connections on panels to have some type of stress relief so this kind of thing could not happen. The cable connection in the vid looks cut, or broken by moving the wire back and forth. To straight of an edge. Maybe this was done by the previous owner to help him with his claim that the panel was rusted. Rust color looks like solder oxidation. Awesome product.

  • truly amazing video...quiet educational...

  • @iLOVENATURE2011 Thanks.

    Jeff

  • are you selling that pannel at a discounted price since it dont work I can fix it lol love yea jeff. you sell great products.

  • @mccunecp I already sold it to Thebillythekid and he has been using right along, no problems.

    Jeff

  • IT'S FLIPPIN FLUX PEOPLE.

  • KFC anyone?

  • just goes to show how different panels are. I have an 85 W (from sunelec) that produces 5 Amps under proper alignment in the South West Texas summers. If the 100W is producing less than my 85, perhaps the cells were factory rejects?

  • @BigAlxr7007 Thank you Al. I sold the panel to BillyTheKid2010 and he's using it.

    Jeff

  • Preliminarily the yellowing looks like an alcohol related flux contamination issue, monitor it as EVA degrades with such exposure over time. Instruct the manufacturer the serial number so that the employee might be trained. Regarding the jbox, rewiring can cause shock to a customer who is not familiar with DC electricity. Generally when encountering this type of issue it is better to get a NABCEP/electrician/field tech to fix the issue to reduce potential liability...

  • It's flux/rosin used when it was soldered.

  • its flux... and that's all...

  • It looks like figure prints, which oxidized the metal slightly. Thanks for showing in detail how to check out a solar panel.I been using your new wind solar controll charger been working perfect, except for the windmill. Maybe if you generate some wind of more then 5 mph here in Arizona on a regular basis my widmill could generate some real power. I've got 32 each 40 watt UL solar panels never had a problem with any of them except when there's no sun out!

  • This whole bad-mouthing vs video rebuttal only helps your business. That's because it highlights that there are people trying to sabotage your reputation. Highlighting this makes people place the correct amount of suspicion on negative reviews. Keep up your videos and it will all work out in the end.

  • @UlfrIronwood Thank you. This video was'nt about attacking a customer that wanted to return something it was meant to be more of an eye opener on behalf of legitamate business's that have to put up with this stuff on a daily basis. Youtube has given people to much power, good and bad. I would hope that the next customer that wants to make a bogus complaint and return takes it up with the company first, not Youtube. I think i'am the first to do a video like this and it will be the last.

    Jeff

  • thats funny Jeff me if I hook something up even if I just bought it even from a store and it not working that is about the first thing I do is pull a cover off or what ever and see if a wire came loos or is somethign is undone and as I can tell if the dummy would have at least checked his wiring he would have found this with out any work at all and that stuff is just flux I have soldered panels before and its just flux and thats all. good video.

  • I make my own solar panels here in MN and the brownish discoloration is overheated flux/rosin from soldering the cells together. NOT RUST - Good job Jeff in the explaination of this.

  • @jmchapo21 That's what i had decided it was. thanks jmchapo

    Jeff.

  • @jmchapo21

I've heard that this discoloring could also be a result of certain types of silicon reacting with certain flux's used. Either way, none of those materials cause rust.

  • 100% ENJOYMENT JEFF, NICE VIDEO AND DEMO. THANKS FOR SHARING.

  • hi this claire from france we have bought items on mwands website and ebay... we asked for particular conditions ,Jeff was very kind and agreed. we have no problem with our wind turbine and all electric items coming from mwands . all stupid attacks from those men with their negative comments won't be able to make you down. as said imetacarpa "Keep up the good work and don't get down to their level " let them speak !!! we all know your work is good ...

claire and ali from south of france

  • Jeff why you waist your time because some moron !!!???? It's not worthy..... You are doing good job and you are hard worker, so I don't care about that " Matt"... Keep up, u r doing a great job for us. Thank you again .

  • you cant't be sued for oppinion or slander on a public fourm. i wish you could though. good luck man and you really shouldn't care about 1 guy saying crap.. its like the old ford/gm trash talking... p.s fords are shit... :) best of luck man

  • Sorry I haven't been able to get on here and check out your videos lately. I've been down with Brochitis but getting back up slowly thanks to my amazing husband.

You can't make everyone happy and looks as though you did your best with this customer. Do your best and let the rest go.

Keep up the good work and don't get down to their level. You know who I am talking about.

Doing this video of the returned panel was great. Espeically the part with the chickens.

  • @lmetacarpa Thank you. Everytime i make a movie they have to be in it. I think there curious when i bring the camera out , they always have to see what's going on.

  • I would buy that panel!

  • Great video Jeff. Sorry you had troubles but you are right a lot of folks get nasty to get thier money back. Like buyers remorse or something. Brett

  • Lol those chickens strolling by really made the movie :-)

  • Good movie Jeff,If a person couldn't figure that one out, they shouldn't be messing with anything electrical.Keep up the good work and i love my Rebel and solar combo, never run out of power.

  • Yes people should think before they start ranting. That is cool how cold water makes more power, Very cool.

  • can i buy this panel at a used rate :)

  • @MarinePrepper You are to late, sold it an hour ago. I guess the customer is going to test it and use it in a video.

    Jeff

  • You're a good man Jeff. It's a shame you had to defend your business from attack over such an easily fixed problem. Maybe Matt will make an "I was wrong" video. When you have a nutbag like scumslurper running down your business every chance he gets, some people are going to fall for it. Now he steals a forum name and wants to play nice. What a piece of crap.

  • There is nothing inside a panel that will rust and they are moisture sealed.

I have 240 watts of solar and when the heat hits 80+ degrees I get 150w and at 90+ degrees I get 125w. It is not till it gets down to 70 degrees that I get 190w.

  • Jeff I wish you had like a pay as u go or a lay-a-way type plan, that would be about the only I could ever do solar, and man oh man do I want to go solar its just all so expensive! Good video, and thanks for sharing! Thumbs up~John

  • @WORRO01 We have done that with some customers.

  • Jeff you can't please every one !!!

  • Hey Jeff how much for that one? Matt don't want it I might.

  • Its still a good solar panel because im supprized its putting out that much power with the heat the way it is.

  • The discoloration Jeff is either the glue or if they used resin all of them turn yellow when in direct sun.It wont effect the output of the solar panel at all.

  • That was a good demo and he must've knew that was that way, becuase if you had a half of a brain, you'd go from cable check to what's inside the box, scam and scamsearcher Buddy, thanks for the vid Jeff , say HI to Molly_Billy

  • I would like to have it looks pretty nice to me. you can send all those panels like that to me I will use them.

  • Do those chickens lay hard boiled eggs in that heat?

  • @sbaker3232 Yes they do, sometimes they bring them up to us by rolling them along very carefully.

Best pets we ever had, they eat all the bugs around here, black widows too. We get virtually free eggs everyday and there maintenance free. They go home every night on there own. We don't lock them up, they roam around, never go to far away from home. Granny is my favorite, she sits on my lap and talks to me. Springfield has now allowed all home owners within the city limits to have 6 chickens.

  • I didn't realize high ambient temps affected panel outputs...Good to know...As usual great info...Thank You...b

  • Sure seems to be a continuous slander campaign against you
